Honestly, with a new, four-instrument Guitar Hero game just around the corner, we're not exactly sure why you'd sink one more penny into DLC for Guitar Hero III. That is, of course, unless you're so obsessed with the guitar that you think the inclusion of drum and vocals sullies the very name of Guitar Hero. If that describes you, then you may just find today's offer pretty tantalizing.
As you may remember, the Virtuoso Track Pack includes "Surfing with the Alien" as performed by Joe Satriani, "For the Love of God" as performed by Steve Vai and "Soothsayer" as performed by Buckethead. And, as we guessed, you can get the whole lot for 500 points.

I haven't played it, but I'd say it's one of the best packs they've released thus far, possibly *the* best. With the full-band Guitar Hero around the corner, a track pack with songs that focus almost purely on what matters in GH3 - the guitar - is like a kind bid farewell (though I know this won't be the last pack they release).
I've got more important things to purchase right now, or else I'd consider showing my support with a purchase... even though they need more competitive pricing. Still.

Downloaded, played. Win. All three songs are pretty epic, especially Joe and Steve's. Buckethead's songs are hard, but not that great to just listen to.

Yah I found it intersting how BH's song is completely overshadowed in this pack by Satriani and Vai. Though when compared to these two guys, most of his stuff, and anyone elses, would be overshadowed.

My favorite was actually the Buckethead song but I am a HUGE Buckethead fanboy.

I'm probably not listening to the best of his songs. My friends like his stuff more than I do. I do like his songs but I was speaking more specifically about the two songs that have been available by him on the Guitar Hero series of games. Compared to the Steve Vai track in this pack, which is really listenable by all kinds of people, this Buckethead song is just a little too long and possibly repetitive.

Not going to happen. The file formats are different. So unless Activision wants to go all file-compatibility-filter on us, GHIII DLC is GHIII DLC only, not for GHWT or GHA.

I believe I read somewhere on Joystiq that the GHIII songs will be playable on WT, but not the GH: Aerosmith songs.

I was kinda disappointed. I beat them all on a sightread and even 5 starred Soothsayer. It really feels like they were charted by a totally different group than did the original game, which is both good and bad. They seem oversimplified, or maybe I'm just a complete god at this game.

Well, considering that so many people bitched about charting effects (whammy, string bending, etc) during sustains (Raining Blood's Ending), it is no wonder that they didn't chart Buckethead's effects pedal. Although, I would rather see things like the effects in Soothsayer charted. Technically, that would be overcharting, though. Overall, I feel that Soothsayer was charted the worst, but it was still charted very well.
As for the For the Love of God and Surfing with the Alien charts... PERFECT. PERFECT. PERFECT.
Surfing with the Alien is my favorite song in the pack, because it is upbeat and it's the freaking Satch man!

You know what Joystiq needs? More terrifying pictures of guitar playing bucketheads. TERRIFYING.

There can be no more guitar-only awesome tracks. They all have to have vocals, drums, etc.

If they can get Pyramid Head on guitar, I'm there.
