Rock Band Weekly: Staind, Testament, Scars on Broadway, The New No 2
Harmonix announced its tracks for next week's Rock Band DLC and it's a slathering of metal. Yes, we're sure there's a better way to describe these bands than just saying "metal." Alternative metal? Post-modern alternative metal? Thrash pre-philosophy metal? Alternative existential rock? We can't keep track of sub-genres anymore.

Yay! More money in my pocket!
Nick Ritch @ Jul 26th 2008 1:39AM
I guess they really want people to buy that new Who pack. Because ever since it's release it seems they are not putting forth any effort.
Lowest ranked for opinion that is not the same as everyone else.
NoHitHair @ Jul 25th 2008 3:34PM
Ahh sellout Staind.
What the hell happened after Dysfunction? Was it really that difficult to stay off the radio embracing Nickelback-sound alike path?
KingOfGods @ Jul 25th 2008 4:39PM
What's wrong with Staind? I'm a fan of their music old and new. Seeing them live is great especially that solo acoustic tour Aaron Lewis did.
With that said, I wish they would have added some of their older tracks as well...maybe something off Break the Cycle or Dysfunction.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jul 25th 2008 5:32PM
What's wrong with staind? I dunno maybe the fact I feel like shooting myself in the head after hearing that depressing garbage. For a millionaire he sure whines and bitches about his childhood that no one cares about alot.
SickNic @ Jul 26th 2008 12:28AM
I couldn't agree more. I loved and still love dysfunction. I still thought break the cycle was good. But everything after that just blew. It seems that just because Outside did so well and made them famous, they feel that sad little ballads are all they can do to stay in the chart. Unfortunately, staind is a business, and what they've been doing since break the cycle has worked in making them money.
roonsan007 @ Jul 26th 2008 12:05PM
Well I'm kinda on the fence about staind I like the music but the lyrics??? what the hell is he bitching about??? I think they could do better.
Demaar @ Jul 26th 2008 12:50PM
Nothing wrong with Staind. Their direction just changed dramatically for their third album and it was a pretty big shock to long time fans. I can appreciate their new stuff, but I don't love it like their oldies...
Huey2k2 @ Jul 25th 2008 3:34PM
TESTAMENT!!!
I just creamed myself.
Korova *of the highlands* @ Jul 25th 2008 3:56PM
Testament is sweet!
TC81190 @ Jul 25th 2008 3:36PM
I think "shit" might be the best word used to describe its genre.
Huey2k2 @ Jul 25th 2008 3:39PM
You know, I love Testament, a lot.
Just because you don't understand the appeal of Metal or respect the sheer ability of the musicians doesn't mean it's not good.
Kizzle @ Jul 25th 2008 3:44PM
"Shit" would be your taste in music. Testament fucking rules.
dark_inchworm @ Jul 25th 2008 4:24PM
Dammit TC, you beat me to it.
dark_inchworm @ Jul 26th 2008 9:46AM
...what, have I been downvoted by the Testament Defense Force?
Maybe they have great songs out there, but sorry, this one eats balls.
Fernando Rocker @ Jul 25th 2008 3:36PM
That's what people call rock this day?
=(
Huey2k2 @ Jul 25th 2008 3:40PM
Testament is awesome.
Huey2k2 @ Jul 25th 2008 3:45PM
Also Testament have been around for around 20 years now, so what you said really doesn't apply.
Kizzle @ Jul 25th 2008 3:47PM
Christ, where are all you idiots coming from? No one who has HEARD Electric Crown would say that unless they're just being annoying on purpose. Are you 'tards so lazy you can't even watch the videos they are linking to?
makishima @ Jul 25th 2008 3:57PM
I decided to watch the Testament video since so many people on here seem to like them, and I'm sorry but my god that song was boring. I'll give it to them that musically they are pretty good, but as a band it just got dull about 1/2 way through. I dunno, maybe it's just the singers voice but I couldn't get into it.
Korova *of the highlands* @ Jul 25th 2008 4:00PM
Calling Testament Rock is like calling Mount Rushmore a rock.
Testament is quite a bit heavier than a rock.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jul 25th 2008 5:20PM
Fernando, Testament is only like 5 years younger than Metallica so it's far from modern day garbage (Also, the singer's lucky he's alive because he had really bad cancer and somehow lived).
I personally would have preferred to see one of their thrash songs in the game than one of their attempted "sellout" songs but I'll take any of their pre-death metal music.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jul 25th 2008 5:35PM
Also, makishima it is the singer's voice. He's always done that live and it annoys the hell out of me too, but the original song he actually sings it great. You should check out the original music video for it.
ToRo @ Jul 29th 2008 10:37AM
Sad, isn't it fernando? When are they gonna get some cream/eric clapton in rockband? Dire saints anyone? I could go on for ages.
galvo @ Jul 25th 2008 3:37PM
Crappy DLC.. again.
At least we got the Who pack and the two Rush songs the past couple of weeks :-/
Huey2k2 @ Jul 25th 2008 3:41PM
Testament is awesome.
I'm going to keep saying this until some other real Metal heads come out of the woodwork to agree with me.
Kizzle @ Jul 25th 2008 3:44PM
You've obviously never heard Testament.
Desert Eagle @ Jul 25th 2008 3:49PM
And you, my canadian friend, are right.
Testament kicks ass. It's too bad I'm too broke to even buy their DLC song. Maybe later on when I get a new point card, but for now, I'll let it pass.
And please HMX, bring the Symphony X and Rhapsody of Fire already!
galvo @ Jul 25th 2008 4:01PM
No, I have heard of Testament.. I just like different metal. I'd love to have some Arsis in the game. Or Finntroll. Or Amon Amarth.
But not Testament.
bounchfx @ Jul 25th 2008 4:31PM
Arsis would be absolutely amazing and I'm glad someone else knows them but they would make Dragonforce look like medium mode on most of the songs, especially from the new album.
but testament is sweet too, without them this would be the worst week by far (discounting New No 2 which we have no idea what it sounds like)
Cian @ Jul 25th 2008 4:44PM
How about an uber metal variety pack with Symphony X, Testament, and Amon Amarth. It would be AWESOME. And then we could throw some Opeth in there as well...
Kizzle @ Jul 25th 2008 3:43PM
No Testament picture? For shame, Joystiq.
Neebs @ Jul 25th 2008 3:47PM
OK JOYSTIQ I'M GOING TO SAY THIS ONCE.
Thenewno2 makes this DLC week == Instant win despite the other crap.
You know why? Because that's Dhani Harrison. George Harrison's son.
And it's awesome. And it's a dollar.
Also you can't find Yomp because its a new track, Alexander. Going to be on their new album. Listen to their other singles:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=MWhj_WEuVZI (Another John Doe)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=F5huduB0Uf0 (Choose What You're Watching)
Neebs @ Jul 25th 2008 3:48PM
Oh yeah, and they're not metal or whatever you tried to reach for.
Boffo the Sock @ Jul 25th 2008 3:49PM
These bands suck.
Either that or I'm baiting Huey2K.
gutron @ Jul 25th 2008 3:59PM
Hey Huey.
Yes, Testament rules. Have you heard the new album with Skolnick back in the saddle? Complete awesomeness.
Its still "not cool" to like metal in America, and the metal bands that do manage to get any attention are alway aweful...unlike in canada.
And Fernando, yes the rest of the bands are garbage. What bands do you like, "rocker"?
On the pure rock side, I dig Dio, Sabbath, UFO,Deep Purple, Rainbow, Scorpions,Whitesnake,Def Leppord,Van Halen, ect...
Fernando Rocker @ Jul 25th 2008 4:08PM
Pretty much the same: classic rock and roll. I love Deep Purple, Motorhead, Dio, Stryper...
Uff... there is a lot of bands I like.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jul 25th 2008 5:23PM
A lot of americans like metal, the only problem is these kids think the garbage metal that's around today is the best ever when really they missed metal's prime in the 80s and very early 90s.
Ayrkain @ Jul 25th 2008 5:47PM
WTF, did he say Stryper? Fakey Jesus Metal FTL!
RedPaladin @ Aug 8th 2008 5:49PM
"On the pure rock side, I dig Dio, Sabbath, UFO,Deep Purple, Rainbow, Scorpions,Whitesnake,Def Leppord,Van Halen, ect..."
You and I are friends. End of story.
makishima @ Jul 25th 2008 4:00PM
Well there seems to be a pretty decent divide this week amongst us here, so at the very least can we all endorse the fact that Staind is total and utter crap?
pr_master @ Jul 25th 2008 4:05PM
wow rock band/guitar hero news are for joystiq what
the iphone is for engadget. Im tire of this news and the worse of it people who dont care about this games have to read the all. Im sure that if they release a
5kbp patch to rock band it will be in the front page.
This is a blog for games not music.
Huey2k2 @ Jul 25th 2008 4:14PM
Rock Band is a music game?
David @ Jul 25th 2008 6:23PM
I'm sorry you HAVE to read it. You could just, you know...uh...continue scrolling down to other interesting news.
Joystiq, please continue the Rock Band Weekly. Never stop the rock. (or metal, I guess)
DeadPlasmaCell @ Jul 25th 2008 4:17PM
Yay, another "The music you like sucks, the music I like is better" thread!
Farseer (GDI) @ Jul 25th 2008 4:18PM
"Yes, we're sure there's a better way to describe these bands than just saying 'metal.'"
How about "meh"?
Farseer (GDI) @ Jul 25th 2008 4:18PM

Farseer (GDI) @ Jul 25th 2008 4:31PM
crap.
Drunf @ Jul 25th 2008 4:25PM
i love rock band and the last DLC i've downloaded was the metallica pack that is AWESOME! i've download most of the emo songs too because of some drum parts, my girlfriend and well, i like screamo.
but, i think they are the last ones. well, look at the photo! they don't look a mean rock band! well, the 3 guys in black tried, but look at the guy in the green shirt:
"omg, i can't hold it anymore!"
*fart*
Mike @ Jul 25th 2008 4:31PM
Staind? Metal? hahahahahaha
