Rumorong: Activision, Red Octane call shenanigans on World Tour set list

We hope you didn't get your hopes up regarding Guitar Hero World Tour's hypothetical set list, which included songs from such bands as REO Speedwagon, Rob Zombie, and whole lot of Tool. Game Informer reports that both Activision and Red Octane have come forward, denouncing the list as a fraud.

While some of the tracks listed will make it into the game, such as Van Halen's Hot for Teacher, the report calls the lion's share of the list "wishful thinking and pure speculation." We're sorry Tool fans, but you'll have to get your progressive rock fix somewhere else.

No surprise there. It was an obvious fake.

A number of sites (including this one) were pretty irresponsible to run with it, when there was absolutely no pretense for believing this list was correct.

Activision and Red Octane were forced to shoot it down, because quite people were going to be pissed when the real setlist comes out, and it is not as good by comparison.

I knew it,too good to be true.

Too bad I was thinking on buying GH:WT if it was compatible with Rock Band Instruments,Oh well.

Nooooooooo dammit!! That set list had me sold on buying GHWT as well and I've NEVER shelled out for any of the music games yet. I want GHIII for Wii but I can't download anything so....

Def Leppard is still confirmed. That was one of the groups originally confirmed.

Duke, I thought the James Taylor song was actually "Carolina in my Mind", not "You've Got a Friend"...

No, my understanding was that would be included in the later released Smooth Pack.

The Tool songs should have been a dead giveaway.

Not to mention the Buckethead song (Nottingham Lace) has no vocals.

I don't know why people keep saying this, Tool's confirmed to be in the game.

Neither does the Halo 3 or God of War themes

Or at least, so I last heard, they were.

Tool is what gave it away for me. I even posted a comment on that page stating that Tool would never "Sell Out."

But honestly if there were just one Tool song in the game I would really thing about buying it. Danny Carey is the best drummer in the world!

People doubt it because in their newsletter a few months ago their webmaster had some nasty sarcasm in response to fan questions about Tool being in Rock Band.

As far as Tool being confirmed for GHWT, do you have a link for this? I tried to find this confirmation and all I got was a link to the official rock band forums where a guy posted some hearsay with a link to an attorney's site where he mentions Tool, but says nothing about Guitar Hero.

How would this be selling out?

it doesn't mention how many songs or anything but it mentions by initials GH4

I don't have the link anymore, but apparently a while back there was a survey released to select research participants about GH:WT that gave a brief description of the game and then asked the participant to rate their feelings about the game. The description listed several bands that have since been confirmed, and also said the the game would include three Tool songs and a dedicated Tool venue. Apparently whoever made the fake song list knew about the survey, because that song list had three Tool songs and a dedicated Tool venue. :p

I heard about the dedicated venue also , its supposed to be based around Alex Greys artwork he did for tools Lateralus tour, if its real well thats the rumor on the venue

So announce the damn setlist already. Harmonix kicked you in the pants in this regard, Neversoft.

Seriously! Why is it, for every Guitar Hero game, we have to wait until it's released before we know the setlist?! Are they afraid that people won't buy it when we know how crappy/good the songs will be? Just let us know already!

Thank God. That setlist had some gems in the first half, but it just got worse and worse...like with the Tool.

And the fact that the "Funk" tour didn't have any real funk bands.

And the bonus list was horrendous.

And there wasn't any punk, but that will probably happen anyway.

It was an obvious fake, the giveaway, was 3 tool songs in one setlist. Whether you hate tool or love 'em, no band to date, in rock band or guitar, had 3 songs featured in one setlist on the main game disc. Now a 3 song tool pack, sure, but on the game disc? Why would activision take up 3 spots devoted entirely to one band, that isn't universally liked by all? Plus if tool is in the game, they're not going to hand it all over at once, they're going to milk the harder to get bands, over the course of dlc.

Tool has been confirmed for the game , on Tools Attorney Alan Jones blog page he wrote about finalizing a deal with them for GH4 once the news was out that he wrote that on his blog they made him take it down , maybe its 1 track 2 tracks or 3 but they(TOOL) will be in the games!

a fake list would be an interesting way to guage peoples' reactions.

I hope they listened to me and based it entirely on my opinion. That's only logical considering that i have the best music taste here.

Some of you guys are RETARDED. Just because Activision and RO say it's fake in no ways means it's fake, of course they HAVE to say it's fake. And the 3 songs and a stage along with many other songs and bands in the list were already CONFIRMED, get you're facts straight. I fully believe this is real, maybe not but we'll see.

I'd absolutely love to get my fix somewhere else. Namely, Rock Band 2.

Ugh, and here I was more stoked for that list than for any other game, especially the way it kicks the ass of RB2's tracklist to the moon.

I wouldn't expect tool to be in the game. But I can hope...

THANK GOD!That setlist was TERRIBLE! If that setlist had been in the game I would certainly have changed mt mind on buying it. I mean of course there was some good stuff (Pink Floyd, Guns N Roses, Tool, Van Halen, etc.) but come on, My Chemical Romance? That band alone would have stopped me from buying that game.
