Rumor: New Marvel vs. Capcom game may be coming 'sooner than you think'

Though we imagine there are those who will find this rumor too inconclusive and uninformative, anyone who has ever experienced the visceral thrill of watching Mega Man beat the mutant gene out of X-Men's resident pansy, Scott Summers, should appreciate even the slightest glimmer of hope for an encore Cyclops massacre. When asked at San Diego Comic Con 08 if a new Marvel vs. Capcom game was a distinct possibility, Marvel Studios' President of Production, Kevin Feige, slyly answered, "Yes. And maybe sooner than you think."
With two days of cosplaying goodness remaining at Comic Con, could Feige have been hinting at a big reveal still to come during the event? Perhaps, though considering Marvel's main panel took place on Thursday, it's somewhat unlikely. If a new Marvel vs. Capcom title is approaching as swiftly as Feige suggests, though, we're sure to hear something more concrete from one of the two companies involved sometime soon.

Please keep this one in 2D. ..Please.
Arttemis @ Jul 26th 2008 12:37PM
I imagine it would be kept in a 2D plane like "Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Cross Generation of Heroes."

That does look Good. And If it plays Good I don't care. I think i am just more incline to see artwork cause I enjoy art and Am an illustrator myself. Also keeps them illustrators going with a job. However That video you showed me was awesome so hey it will be good either way.
Co @ Jul 26th 2008 1:15PM
Hmmm this game would thrive on Wii with Classic Controller support (just like SF 4 would) and online (just like Dragon Ball Z does).
Vidikron (FU) @ Jul 26th 2008 2:09PM
@Co
I doubt the Wii could faithfully pull off SFIV.
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Jul 26th 2008 7:13PM
Why is it with every game announcement comes someone saying "It should come out on the Wii." Where does this sense of entitlement come from? Is it just boredom because your twelth Kawasaki game this year is pure ass?
Foetoid @ Jul 27th 2008 9:45AM
Sheppy. I think you'll find most people (including myself) want more hardcore Wii games. As it stands i think there are almost too many good games on the Wii to buy and play as it is, nevermind more gems like this coming along. I'm a picky hardcore gamer who refuses to buy mini-game compilations or crappy shovel-ware titles and i've found 11 Wii games to own. And i dont even own most of the A+ titles like Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart, Smash Bros Brawl, Battalion Wars, Geometry Wars or No More Heroes. If i can find that many games worth owning without owning the best games (Well, i still own Zelda, Metroid, RE4 etc) on top of my 12 GC games and 13 downloaded games, anyone can. More hardcore titles are always welcome, so long as its this: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x64z6t_mad-world-trailer-e3_videogames
OMG FTW.
Co @ Jul 27th 2008 4:30PM
Amen Foetoid.
Danny F. @ Jul 26th 2008 12:15PM
Shoot.... they could poop out MvsC2 with HD goodness and I'll be happy as hell.
But screw it.. another new addition would be freaking awesome, finally!!
DangerMouse @ Jul 26th 2008 12:16PM
I hope they bring the old ones out on PSN or Live or something. I'd buy them all.
Mamba @ Jul 26th 2008 12:18PM
new characters!

HOLY CARP!
I registered on Joystiq just to say that.
Lord Bowser @ Jul 26th 2008 12:22PM
No you didn't. You have over 50 posts on Joystiq.

Carps are not holy.
Trouts, however, are.
mezzanine @ Jul 26th 2008 7:09PM
He actually saw the future, and while waiting for this to be posted, he just had to have those 50 posts.
You bastards.
Lord Bowser @ Jul 26th 2008 12:25PM
Cable was always such a broken character. Too powerful: his rapid fire bullets could do three times the damage as a Spiderman equivalent. Such a cheap character.
I hope they keep that crappy jazz music as well. And it better come out for the Wii.
Danny F. @ Jul 26th 2008 12:46PM
If they keep that crappy jazz music they better put custom track support or allow in-game xmb music support at least....
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Jul 26th 2008 1:33PM
But Danny. You don't want to take me for a ride? ;_;
Roto13 @ Jul 26th 2008 2:03PM
I downloaded a Dreamcast version of MvC 2 with a custom soundtrack. :P It's pretty neat.

gamer 2: blooogagagahhahahabzzbrooohohohoooo
gamer 1: Oh shit, you're having a seizure...
Yep, should totally come out on Wii.
Lord Bowser @ Jul 27th 2008 12:30PM
Sheppy makes another void contribution; I am never surprised.
ulovemikeroch @ Aug 14th 2008 1:59AM
Cable true brokeness had nothing to do with his "rapid fire bullets." If you really wanna see why cable is Top 4 God Tier, Look up AHVB.
ice~ @ Jul 26th 2008 12:27PM
oh
my
god
they shud re-release 1 and 2 on XBLA, and they better have deadpool or iceman in the new one
:) :) :) boy I hope they confirm this
Mike @ Jul 26th 2008 1:37PM
Iceman was in the second one, I thought?
BPM [MSN: BPMdotEXE @ hotmail.com] @ Jul 26th 2008 5:41PM
He was. And.... I dunno, maybe it's just me, but I didn't find him that good. Kinda weak. Still, rather him than broken-ass Cable.
colin @ Jul 26th 2008 6:27PM
i'll be there
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Jul 26th 2008 7:25PM
Iceman was weak because we was basically unchanged from his debut in X-Men: Children of the Atom. A lot of people applaud MvC2 but it really was an asset dump with little balancing done. The original was much better in design even if it dodn't have the shitton of characters.
doom saber @ Jul 27th 2008 12:14AM
AT sheepy
So true. I read on some article years ago that the ppl makin the game didn't know how to balance the game since it had so many characters. So they just made everyone powerful in hopin that ppl will find out who is the most unbalanced character when the game is no longer popular
Lewis (RROD: July 16) @ Jul 26th 2008 12:34PM
Thank god.
browntown @ Jul 26th 2008 12:42PM
Better be 2d. Id pay 60 bucks for that. I hope its not like street fighter 4, i hate that art style.
Kev @ Jul 26th 2008 12:50PM
hah. if you wanted an xbox copy of MvC2 used from, say, a Gamestop, you would be paying 60 bucks :) .
Anticrawl @ Jul 26th 2008 3:10PM
I have Marvel vs Capcom 1 & 2 on the best system besides the arcade versions. The dreamcast, awwwww yeahhh. Seriously, my Dreamcast gets more game time than my PS3 and Wii combined. Toy Commander (despite the pore reviews), Power Stone 1 & 2, MvC 1 & 2, etc etc keep it one of my most played consoles when buddies are over. Sometimes we still fire up the 64 for some Goldeneye 4 player with all the cheats loaded in, and old school Super Smash Bros.
Anticrawl @ Jul 26th 2008 3:15PM
Shovelface's review on Gamestop of Toy Commander back in the day is just one of several dozen reasons the guy is terrible at his job, gave the game a poor review because he felt like a chump for losing in a game called Toy Commander.
Anyway, I'm off.
BPM [MSN: BPMdotEXE @ hotmail.com] @ Jul 26th 2008 5:42PM
Anticrawl just reminded me I still need to get a copy of Power Stone 2, somehow...
(I have the first)
ARGH.
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Jul 26th 2008 7:27PM
Anticrawl, no Garou? What kind of fighting game fan are you. Wild Wolf FTW!
kataztrophy @ Jul 26th 2008 1:01PM
Not buying into it unless someone from Capcom confirms it with an over elaborate trailer that only shows 2 seconds of game play footage..
ScallionN @ Jul 26th 2008 1:02PM
I wanna get taken for a ride again.
Arttemis @ Jul 26th 2008 1:16PM
I want to see people ripping the game with their *own* soundtracks again...
but since it's not coming out for the Dreamcast 2, that likely won't happen.
SoulBlade @ Jul 26th 2008 1:12PM
Bout time... I'd love to see some fluid HD animation. I kind of like the style of SF4, so if it's like that, then I won't complain either.
Jawmuncher @ Jul 26th 2008 1:35PM
I hope this is true, I love me some MvC
Yawn @ Jul 26th 2008 1:41PM
Why so retro capcom?
First megaman 9 now these lol.
Fighting games....such a sad things.
A genre that couldnt keep up with time and got stuck in the same boring mechanics of smash a lot of bottons or memorize overcomplicated sequences.
Noshino @ Jul 26th 2008 1:59PM
You do know that the Fighting genre is one of the most hardcore ones right?
How many times does one have to explain that evolution on the fighting genre is at a lower rate than in other genres?
But then again, with a username as yours, I wouldn't expect you to understand the beauty of the fighting genre
LuckyEMS @ Jul 26th 2008 2:11PM
dude the fighting genre rocks
if you have no life and can dedicate 20 hours a day to learning combos
shame most of them are shit
Yawn @ Jul 26th 2008 2:16PM
Yeah sure its a great genre.
We see a lot of Fighers these days and they usually achieve the highest scores make the most sales and everyone love them.
They dont need to go for cheap tactics like using other stablished franchises or sexualization of characters for attention.
Danny F. @ Jul 26th 2008 2:17PM
You must be part of the new generation of gamers where swinging a white stick around is the new "cool" no complicated sequences or anything!! ...just wave it around..
Your the audience that the Big N is aiming for ;)
SoulBlade @ Jul 26th 2008 2:46PM
There's nothing like playing against someone else who's equally skilled and having a great, intense match. Fighters provide a lot of the same experiences other genres do in terms of strategy, intensity, and suspense.
You're missing out, but if it isn't your thing, then so be it.
Danny - don't bring the Wii into this. It's pointless.
