We all know the PSP only sells hardware when a new Monster Hunter is released. Otherwise, it is a total piece of convoluted junk. I hate the limted functionality especially when compared to the super powerful Nintendo DS.

The problem with the PSP is the ANOUNT of games released.

I'm really curious as to what's pushing PSP sales. Don't get me wrong, it's a great system (and I sure love mine), but software sales have been mediocre at best. Even Monster Hunter Portable 2G is dropping down in the charts.

I think DS sales are at a point where they won't get any higher unless something MEGA-EPIC-HUGE were to come out. Even if it were to stop selling entirely in Japan, it'd still take a long time for PSP to catch up, even at its current rate.
Not even the Dragon Quest V could push up the DS sales past PSP (and the game sold over 600k its debut week!). Basically, most of the people that wanted a DS, have one.

It's certainly an interesting situation in Japan.

Oh, and I almost missed "Hype Beam" the first time I read through the post. I thought it was "Hyper Beam"... which made sense in the Pokémon context, but not so much in the sales chart context. Reading again, and I thought... "Bravo!"

It will be interesting to see what Dragon Quest IX (when Square enix actually gets off their porting/White-engining ass and decides to work on it) will do for the DS

DS has actually peaked there... DQ5 sold over 600,000 units, but DS hardware remains normal. Then again, everyone who wanted classic DQ probably bought it when DQ4 came out...
