The NSFAmerica Dead Space 'Lullaby' trailer

Send the kids to bed, dear readers. It's grown folks time. The Dead Space "Lullaby" trailer we've placed cautiously after the jump is full of ominous environments, severed limbs, and creepy children's songs -- the horror game trailer trifecta. In fact, Ars Technica reports that shortly after viewing the trailer at E3, they received an email from Electronic Arts telling them that the ESRB refused to approve the trailer for American audiences. We're not experts on the subject, but it might have something to do with all the disappendaged torsos. It was cleared for European regions, however, and of course, for the great nation of Internetania. Check it after the break, if you think you can handle it (you probably can).

would have been scarier with "jesus loves me" sung by little sisters
Stephen @ Jul 27th 2008 11:28PM
so true, although its scarier when you hear a splicer singing it and all you see is the shadow from around the corner...
Tiptup300 @ Jul 28th 2008 12:14AM
I hate the ESRB, This is why we don't have awesome games where limbs are severed, people's heads explode, chunks of man flesh fly and hit people in the face. The esrb is out to destroy the mature side of the games industry.
We can have all this in a movie where people will be more affect psychologically, but not in a game?
nobody528 @ Jul 28th 2008 12:27AM
Tiptup300, maybe you missed the fact that they only banned the trailer, not the actual game? The ESRB doesn't allow "overly"-grotesque movie trailers to appear in the American ads either, and I watch all my trailers on gaming websites rather than TV anyway.
Wiinterfang @ Jul 28th 2008 1:30AM
Well thank God it isn't cuz my vowels can't handle that kind of thing.
j.howlett @ Jul 28th 2008 2:11AM
the esrb shouldn't have a say if the trailer is shown, just rate the content. like red band trailers. or have an unrated trailer. i wonder if this has to do with the darkness trailer or whatever game awhile back. and esrb doesn't do movies.
MillRecover @ Jul 28th 2008 2:50AM

You guys are so bloodthirsty!
Limb-less... I mean, limbo, anyone?
:D

I've had a discussion just recently about the ESRB and the thing that really irritates me is that the ESRB won't let people make "disturbing" games. Games that are so horrific that you will actually feel uncomfortable in your home. Horror movies are allowed, why can't horror games have the ability?
It also seems as though any disturbing game is said to be toned down by the esrb.
mezzanine @ Jul 27th 2008 7:07PM
Don't struggle like that, I will only love you more.
x2fr @ Jul 28th 2008 11:08AM

Gbogdan @ Jul 27th 2008 7:11PM
Every time I see something about this game I get more and more excited about it.
aristokrat @ Jul 27th 2008 8:33PM
Every time I see this I get pissed at how much of a pussy I am when it comes to horror games. It looks fun, but it also looks terrifying.
aacman007 @ Jul 27th 2008 7:16PM
Epoch win
eNrique @ Jul 27th 2008 7:22PM
think i'll need some valium tonight...
Wiinterfang @ Jul 27th 2008 7:24PM
Does anybody had an extra pair of undewear?
Ben @ Jul 27th 2008 8:55PM
I know I need another pair after watching that. Holy @#$!
chalkley3 @ Jul 27th 2008 7:29PM
I will bet 20 bucks this game never makes it to australia. Then again, fallout 3 lets you shoot people's ears of with VATS, so I hold hope.
Haggard @ Jul 27th 2008 8:31PM
Haha, is that to stop them from hearing your footsteps or something? I'd have thought that shooting them in the first place might make them notice you.

aristokrat, you just made my goddamn year.
Thatoneguy64 @ Jul 27th 2008 11:12PM
At GameTrailers, that's the date the vid was posted.
Shignami @ Jul 27th 2008 7:39PM
I haven't really paid much attention to this, but it looks rather system shock-ish.
although given the subject matter comparison is inevitable.
I really like alot of the things I saw in this trailer, the whole "CUT OFF THEIR LIMBS" thing is a nice touch, especially considering how much survival horror games seem to like messages written in blood, also it seems its taking a page from RE4 in the whole "really cool death scenes you want to watch" regard, Lets hope this game is a challenge enough that I might actually see some.
ExMcCloud @ Jul 27th 2008 7:45PM
Wow....This may be the survival horror game of the year....No literally I think its the only one....And EA is making it? Suprised...That, I...Am
Tez (PSN: Tezasaurus) @ Jul 27th 2008 8:14PM
There's Siren... but whether or not that game is actually good seems to be debatable.
ExMcCloud @ Jul 27th 2008 8:19PM
Damn I forgot about Siren....Does anyone kno if that game is any good?
Rob Accomando @ Jul 27th 2008 7:50PM
This trailer sold me on this game. I hope it's Bioshock good.
JontheNinja @ Jul 27th 2008 7:57PM
Holy crap that was the protagonist's head getting ripped off!
Haggard @ Jul 27th 2008 8:34PM
Yeah, I like how they've shown the protagonist as being really vulnerable in all the media; things aren't as scary if you're playing as Duke Nukem or some steroid munching space marine.
Blazur @ Jul 27th 2008 7:58PM
It's decided, I'm gonna play this game at night with wrap around headphones and the lights off.
Chris Are @ Jul 28th 2008 1:55AM
Aw man, now I'm gonna feel like a pussy if I DON'T do that.
Konstantin @ Jul 27th 2008 8:19PM
Dead Space is the new SystemShock2.
Hurray!!!
Nate Kowal @ Jul 27th 2008 8:27PM
This games screen shots really do remind me of Bioshock.
ratm @ Jul 27th 2008 8:38PM
They are trying too hard to make this game scary. It just isn't scary. Just gory.

Cyro @ Jul 27th 2008 8:41PM
Pardon my ignorance. But doesn't blood freeze in space (vacumm)? I mean isn't like below zero in outer space?
Firewall @ Jul 27th 2008 9:22PM
Temperature in space varies widely. In the shade it can be very cold, in direct sun it can be several hundred degrees.
You certainly hear about the cold more though, as its easier to add heat to the suit than to try to radiate it back. Modern space suits even have blood heaters in them!
Cyro @ Jul 27th 2008 11:08PM
I am not sure that anything can be liquid in outer space. I just did some research and pretty much the consensus is 2.725 Kelvin, which is -270 degrees Celsius, or -455 Fahrenheit.
http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-the-temperature-in-space.htm
I mean this source can be BS, but thats pretty much what I read everywhere. So my point is, that in that trailer we just saw, the blood comming out of the dead corpse should not be flowing liquid out of him, He should've crystalized right away.
But what the hell do I know.
Anyone care to explain ?
Army Fork @ Jul 28th 2008 12:33AM
Space actually doesn't have a temperature, temperaturee is the measure of thermal energy held in a molecule, and space is a vacuum. But radiating sources of energy can heat molecules, by the process of a photon striking the molecule and exciting the molecule. That is what's known as heat. But unless there is not a powerful enough source of energy (distance and output being a factor), then the heat from the molecules will be shed in the form of photons and lost, thus causing the molecule to become less energised and change states, in this case, liquid to solid. Unless there is a source of heat, his blood should start to freeze rapidly.
aristokrat @ Jul 28th 2008 12:27PM
Since temperature is usually lost through conduction, in a vacuum could you actually lose heat? I mean, with nothing to suck the heat out of you, you couldn't lose heat unless you were able to transform it into another form of energy (which is not a common spontaneous event). That's why they use vacuums as insulators in those double walled coffee cups for instance. I'm not sure about this, and I'm guessing that space isn't a total vacuum, but without a destination to lose heat too, it seems like the blood could very well stay liquid. Looks like we need to call NASA.
Residentevil72501 @ Jul 27th 2008 9:17PM
Actually Siren Blood Curse
is quite good! I was impresse, its alot like the earlier resident evils which is not a bad thing at all. The enemies are easy to kill so far but they look really gross and stuff, im enjoying it thus far tho.
Travis @ Jul 27th 2008 9:18PM
Well this is kind of nice... JESUS CHRIST WHAT WAS THAT!!! oh, its gone, im safe...
AAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
OmegaVader @ Jul 27th 2008 9:34PM
the best feature of this game seems to be the ways in which you can die. Which, as cool as it is, defeats the point of playing, really.
idiot @ Jul 27th 2008 9:42PM
hmm there are an awful lot of people here that share a Jan. 1st birthday with me...
Sesur @ Jul 27th 2008 10:28PM
this game is going to scare the shit out of me.
Wiinterfang @ Jul 27th 2008 10:41PM
I did not care for this game until this trailer, now I have this intense urge of playing, it has the scare factor that Resident Evil is slowly missing, the fact the I just soiled my pants also help.
Jarret @ Jul 27th 2008 11:20PM
No one cares about Silent Hill. :(
Wiinterfang @ Jul 28th 2008 1:32AM
If it's of any help, I really liked the movie.
