New games this week: Soul Calibur IV edition

Try as we might to fully embrace the idea, the inclusion of Yoda and Darth Vader to the Soul Calibur series still feels like something we would have dreamed when we were 12, told our friends about and then been mercilessly teased for. In fact, we won't be entirely sure the whole thing's not an elaborate prank being pulled on us by Namco-Bandai until we get our hands on a retail disc, which, appropriately enough, will be this week.

Also this week, Sam and Max come to the Wii, as does the completely mystifying Summer Athletics The Ultimate Challenge. We hear you can train to be the top runner guy and get the platinum medallion for running challenges.

Blaze Blue I think is coming out this year. That looks like the best potential fighter on PS360 to me.

KOF XII had the most potential, but I don't think it will be the best new game but I sure hope so.

you're just calling soul caliber a button masher cause you probably suck at it.
That game has a seriously complicated combo counter and guard system that takes tons of skill and practice to master. It is anything but a button mashed.

From the reviews so far SC4 isn't considered a button masher as you won't get by with this.

This isn't MvsC2.

Seriously, no. Most are a little lax on exact inputs, but that just makes them more fun to play. 95% of the time, someone with true skill will beat someone who just mashes well. I think that makes it clear that it's not just a button mashing game.

Also, 3D makes the whole game infinitely more interesting. It's not just two paper dolls swinging their appendages around on a plane... you actually get real physical interaction in a format that much more closely resembles real life (or at least a really over the top action movie).

There are only a handful of great 3D fighters.

2D is where it's at for true fighting games.

Also I've had SC4 for a couple days, and it's pretty sweet.

I wonder when piracy is going to start eating into the 360's tie ratio, if everyone's downloading the game instead of buying it.

(Not saying you specifically downloaded it, but I bet a majority of "early players" have)

The 360 is really hard to mod... it's never gonna hurt the tie ratio. I found a legit copy anyway...

Must rent Spectral Forces 3. Will probably be disappointed.

shallow idiots...why not buy SC4 just cause It has three star wars characters, first of all no one says you have to use them and secondly, you can create 50 of you're own characters thanks to the games deep character customization, I think that putting starkiller yoda and vader is lucas arts idea of a promotion. Dont cheap yourself out of a great game because the little nerdy starwars danbky inside you can't stand seeing vader in another gaming universe, there's a logical explination for it in the story. I just don't think people should change their mind on a game because of one measley aspect of it despite how good the game is. Im done =)

Well here on México I bought SoulCaliburIV on Meave, it was $700 mexican pesos (60 something dollars), so if you want an earl copy of SCIV go... they have for PS3 and 360

It looks like Sam & Max did not release this week - Gamestop doesn't list it at all, and Amazon shows it as 9/9/2008.

I am sad.
