Rumor: New Xbox 360 dashboard leaked

Although we don't have a released date for the New Xbox Experience (i.e. the completely revamped Xbox 360 dashboard), the update has purportedly leaked onto the interwebs, and Xbox 360 modder xHaVoK87 has chronicled his efforts to install the new dashboard onto his modded console (note: so far it only works on hardware-modded Xbox 360s).

There's a handful of videos to show the installation process (embedded after the break), as well as one of the working dashboard (seen above). Despite all the footage and technical lingo, we remain, as always, skeptical. According to the posting, "Beta Stage 2 Release" is coming in mid-August.

Am I the only one who thinks this looks terribly fake? - The menu's positioning isn't fully correct.
- The up/down menu isn't right at all only having two categories. Not to mention that the Videos/Music are supposed to have their own up/down menu.
- The menu's don't have a reflection.
- Avatars aren't shown.
- And this menu is extremely easy to recreate.

Why bother putting a buggy, incomplete version on your 360? Just so you can say you have it early and watch it mess up your Xbox?

I don't really see a point to it, either, but then again, sometimes people make fun of me for bothering to crochet a blanket instead of buying one at the store. *shrugs* Some people just get a kick out of doing stuff the hard way, especially if it's illegal.

Personally I find it fun to mess with this stuff just for the challenge of getting it to work. It's also cool to get to use software that most other people haven't. It's really a "just because I can thing" for a lot of people, I would think.

I too wonder why bother? If it's real then it's just some hacker doing his lame thing but if it is somehow faked then that is just sad as hell. Devoting all that time to produce a bad video of such an unimportant event.

I'm tempted to think it's just a hoax. No sign of avatars what so ever, and seeing as how that'd probably be the hardest part to fake, I'm skeptical.

Either way, if it's real, it's dumb. Not to mention the reasons why a modchip is morally bankrupt in the first place (I'm sure he did it for the non-existant 360 homebrew) but putting a buggy OS onto your 360 is dumb in the first place. It would have been an awesome example of instant karma if the 360 would have bricked right there on the spot.

i applaud MS's strategy of making "real" casual games, as in casual games that still have some substance to them, unlike a certain another company. Viva Pinata, Lips, LBP etc. are the type of games that dont insult casual gamers'/nongamers' intelligence.

as for the revamped OS, good move again, especially the fact that they have also kept the old blades system for the core gamers. as far as im concerned though, casual/non gamers who damn near need to be begged through huge budget advertising to try out a system dont deserve the entertainment that this great industry provides.

Haha, did you just say there is a group of consumers out there that doesn't DESERVE a form of entertainment consumption? As if any of us "core" gamers have done anything special so that we DESERVE gaming more than others. That's like saying people late in the game don't DESERVE to buy and eat M&Ms because they weren't there at the founding. PROTIP: That's not how capitalism works.
