OK, niggling continuity issues aside, if the combat is half as cool in Shaba's game as this video makes it look, we could finally be in for a game where we feel like the Webhead both when we're spinning webs any size and catching thieves just like flies. And we can't wait.
See symbiote Wolverine in Spider-Man: Web of Shadows

OK, so you can color us confused. The end of the stunningly rad Spider-Man: Web of Shadows trailer we've put right after the jump seems to end with a glimpse of an alien symbiote bonded with lovable gruffster Wolverine. But we could have sworn the last time that happened the symbiote was forced out by Logan's mutant healing factor. Are we alone here?

Just don't read any of the reviews once it comes out.Contrary to popular belief, 4-7/10 Games can be really fun too.

Anyways, this Wolverine looks like those massive spiders we used to find in my grandparents backyard / garden. Big, yellow and black spiders with very shiny skeletal bodies. Scared the hell out of me and my brother when we first saw them.

Venom was there... you could see him on the left corner, just after they show the white bad guys, when they shift the camera to spider-man. You can see VENOM while the camera is rotating on that take. Hard to see but he is there.

It's not really a continuity error. We all know that viruses can mutate to be more resistant to vaccination. The symbiotes in Marvel comics have been shown to be adaptive as well. Also, since the symbiotes take on characteristics and powers of their hosts, the symbiote may have learned something about bonding with Wolverine and thus is more prepared to fight his healing factor the next time around.

but the symbiotes arent like a hive mind, so unless it's the exact same symbiote Wolverine attached to in the Mighty Avengers it wouldnt have learned how to counteract it. Who knows, maybe Wolverine's healing ability will be part of how we beat him

Actually, they are a hive-mind. There was a cross-over featuring Spidey, his clone (Ben Reilly), Venom and Carnage that was about an invasion of the symbiotes. They were a telepatic hive-mind with Venom and the earth-born symbiotes excluded from the hive-mind due to Venom being in exile, passing that inability to link up on to his terran offspring.

now thats awesome
it looks inspired from a very recent comic cover i saw of the new avengers. i think it was #35. that photo was famous when it came out, even though the actual comic didnt have anything like that in it (at least not in #35) but it came a few issues later. but that cover was pretty famous online for a while, but it looks like all the high rez photos of that cover have been pulled from websites.
its very cool that they realised how much people liked that concept and put it in this new spidey game. i cant wait for this game btw. the open ended gta-type gameplay is perfect for spiderman games and this one looks like it wont be bland like spiderman 3.
this is a crappy pic but all i can find right now

Actually Wolverine was infected by a Venom clone after his encounter with Venom. His healing factor was unable to repel the clone as it was with Venom.

Isn't it possible that Wolverine, like Spider-Man, was able to control the symbiote and allowed it to take over his body? It never explicitly showed that those guys tackling him took him over; he might have already been infected and transformed to defeat them.

Does anyone else get the vibe that the devs for this game took a huge cue from Resident Evil or Dawn of the Dead? I mean the symbiote infected people are basically zombies right?

...because Resident Evil and Dawn of the Dead were the ones to invent zombies?

lol, you misunderstand. I'm was just commenting on how zombies seem to make anything cooler just by default. Plus after so many bad Spider-man tie-ins I was being a bit skeptical.

A couple of things:
1) Wolverine has had a symbiote bonded to him twice. The first time in the Venom ongoing series and it actually possessed him. The second time was in Mighty & New Avengers where it wasn't a true symbiote, but rather a symbiote virus whichis healing factor fought off.
2) This game is only based on Marvel continuity, so things that are true in the 616 universe aren't necessarily true here. Although as stated above it's NOT a continuity error.
3) Non-movie-based Marvel games have been notoriously awesome. X-Men: Legends 1 & 2, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, Ultimate Spider-Man, and Spider-Man 1 & 2 for PS1/N64/Dreamcast were all released to great critical acclaim.
4) Even those Marvel movie games that were subpar had their strong elements. Spider-Man 2 for example was quite well-received. Spider-man 3 improved on the previous game in every way, but suffered due to rampant bugs caused by a rushed release.
So basically it comes down to this, the games suck when they try and rush them to the market to tie-in to the films. This game doesn't have that problem. Nor did the other well-received Marvel titles.

"This game is only based on Marvel continuity, so things that are true in the 616 universe aren't necessarily true here." That doesn't make sense. If it's based solely on the 616 universe then what's true there should be true here

I see that you're a Batman fan by your avatar, as such you likely know about the concept of Elseworlds, alternate realities, and different adaptations and interpretations. Take the Spider-Man films for example, they're based on various bits of 616 Marvel universe storylines, but they have their own set of standards and concepts.
Or alternatively, and easier to follow for those not familiar with comic lore: Spider-Man movie games are "based on" the films, but that doesn't mean they match them scene for scene. In fact, they're forced to do alternate variations of scenes so as not to step on the toes of the films.
Also, even if you put that information aside my previous point stands. Wolverine's healing factor doesn't fight off symbiote possession, as he has become a host to the Venom symbiote in the past. It merely fought off the symbiote "virus", a variation also known as the "Venom bomb".
