Publisher Stardock has released the first trailer for Demigod, its upcoming "team-based action game with RTS and RPG elements" being developed by Gas Powered Games. The title will support one-on-one battles, but the game apparently shines in team play. The idea of a "team-based" RTS is still something we're wrapping our brains around; as multiplayer RTS is nothing new, but Demigod sounds like something different. For those who really want to get some hands-on time with the game, we were able to confirm the title will be at PAX.
Gamespot recently spoke with GPG and Stardock about the development of Demigod and we're definitely looking forward to learning more as the title continues its crusade for an early 2009 launch. We're still keeping our fingers crossed for an announcement that the game will make the leap to consoles. Check out the trailer after the break.
I'm quite excited for Demigod, if not only because it's a game by Chris Taylor and because it looks awesome. It's apparently inspired in ways by DOTA, but I've only played the early versions of DOTA so I can't really relate to that. However, from what I've read, you control a "Hero" and command an army in Demigod, which sounds good to me.
also left 4 dead is a game based off of the different zombie mods for hl2, and left 4 dead is using the same engine as those mods. I'm still buying that. I would rather play a similar game that was created to do the same things than play a mod of a game that does the same thing.
It sure looks pretty cool. I'm not an RTS fan by any measure, but after reading an article about this game in GFW Magazine (RIP), I was intrigued by what Stardock had to say about the game they're putting together.
They should rename the game "Erection City" as that's where I'm at right now. I have little interest in PC gaming, but I dig what I've seen of this game. I'd rather not spend the money upgrading my PC, so here's hoping it goes to either the PS3 or 360.
Oh good, Chris Taylor! Let's have more games that require entirely new computers to play them, and then SHITE ports of those games to the Xbox which burn through $60 on contact and then sink themselves into a pit of bugs, glitches and lag, as if by some sort of money-devouring/hope crushing magic. I'm sooooo impressed. At least they chose some nice art direction to rip off (Shadow of the Colossus much?) for the trailer, which will be all I ever really enjoy from the game.
I have plenty of things to argue about your post, but that can wait. I need to say this.
Every time someone says '_____ much?' I have to leave the computer and meditate in the bathtub for hours on end to avoid fulfilling the urge to track them down and grind their bones into dust.
Shadow of the Colossus, you know that game with big giant monsters that look like they're standing in on this trailer for the typical Christ Taylor unit-made-of-building-blocks aesthetic? I guess you'd have to have played both Shadown and Total Annihilation/Supreme Commander to see how that is working.
And sorry to... upset you, fatass bathtub guy? But it's really a TV thing, not a computer thing, so I'd suggest if you don't wanna get angry anymore you just leave off both of those in the future and read a book- you should be safe there.
It doesn't really upset me, but I want someone to beat up after I read it and facepalm so hard I end up hurting myself. It's just one of those comments that makes no sense, one that I usually associate with ditzy teenage girls. I don't like it, no, not one bit.
When you say, "the typical Chris Taylor unit-made-of-building-blocks aesthetic." It sounds like Shadow of the Colossus was "influenced" by his idea, but made the unit out of stone?
Well, that looked cool. Enough said but... Did they really have to give close-up shots of the half-naked fairy so many times? I'd rather watch those awesome-looking monsters tear into eachother without repeated attempts at half-assed sex appeal.
This game looks like a refreshing change from the unoriginal concepts we've been host to for a while now. I have high hopes for Q3/4 2008 and 2009. If not, then GOG.com will launch and I'll be able to dig into older more satisfying games :D
maybe, Taylor's been talking multiplatform for a while, but I personally wouldn't want to play an RTS, especially Demigod, on a Console. Taylor's talked a lot about making his games more accessible to a broader range of PC hardware, so I would expect this baby to be able to run on a wide variety of machines. Either way, this game looks great and will sell through the online service setup by Stardock, with no DRM too. Now that's nice...
Looks great. I'll be getting it even though I'm still perturbed that they scrapped the Supreme Commander DX10 patch weeks before it was going to launch.
