You (just like most people) are forgetting four of the other uses:

1. It's the video-game equivalent of sticking your music collection on a HDD-based portable music player instead of dragging all of your CDs around with you.

2. Sometimes "backup" REALLY DOES just mean "backup". Think about if you had a little kid around. Yea, *real* backups *are* actually useful.

3. It allows you to backup and swap save files.

4. It allows you to play older demos after they've disappeared from the download stations and Nintendo Channel.

On the contrary, I've forgotten none of those uses. I have kids, so backups of DVDs are a must, or else we'd go broke. :P I'm not arguing the practicality of the device's potential applications... but if you think the overwhelming majority of its users aren't playing pirated ROMs on it, you're deluding yourself.

So if it's illegal to create a technology that allows violation of copyrights, shouldn't Al Gore be on death row?

As far as I'm concerned, this is NO different from the RIAA suing to stop CD burners or the MPAA suing to stop DVD burners. It's things like this that make me VERY disappointed in Nintendo.

Dumbness. The day I got an Apple ][ emulator working on my DS with an R4 flash card was the happiest day of DS-ownership I've ever had. Bard's Tale > Etrian Odyssey, and I figured it's about time I finished the game of Destiny Knight I started 20 years ago.

NO!

Those P*&%#@.

I love my GBAMP and I don't even bother with the pirate games. I just jack it into a GB micro and it replaces both my mp3 player & book.

If they really sue those guys, I'm dumping all my nintendo stock out of spite.

Good thing I already own my R4 and EZFlash 3in1. Honestly I don't think I'd even use my NDS that much without it.

I don't think this will help much. I like the idea of game crashing cards instead, as you can't fight the many variations of R4s out there.

I don't think they are going about this the right way, as there are many variations of R4s out there. I think that game crashing cards are a better way to curb it, although it won't be a solutions.

I just got an R4 2 weeks ago, and it kicks ass! I've been playing mostly old Genesis and Neo-Geo games on it. And yes I have DS games on it too. Alot of Japanese ones.

It's not like they're going to stop piracy or anything. All of the "famous" (rather infamous) ROM dumpers already have what they need. Ironically, don't they sort of support Nintendo? On the other hand, the profit of selling a game to a dumper is quickly negated by the hundreds or thousands of people that download the same game... but I doubt the guy behind the counter at Gamestop knows that.

Ok. All these carts do is allow you to put things onto a memory card and view them through your game system. Now if the judge was smart he will see this and automatically rule that the cards are legal, just not the people putting out the games for them. If NINTENDO was smart they would put lawsuits on sites for uploading .ROM's. But both are/will be dumbasses. And you know Nintendo will pay the hottest hooker on the streets to suck the judge's dick and have them rule in their favor.
