Yesterday's news that Activision Blizzard was only holding onto a select few Vivendi/Sierra properties going forward didn't look good for those awaiting the seemingly triumphant return of Ghostbusters. We contacted Sierra about the game's absence from Blizzavision's "to keep" list, and whether said omission spelled doom for the Ecto-1 crew. Good news, everyone: the game's not giving up the ghost.
A spokesperson for Sierra confirmed that, "First and foremost, the game is absolutely not canceled." But does it have a publisher? "[Sierra] is reviewing its options regarding those titles that it will not be publishing," we were told.
While not explicitly stated, it definitely sounds like Sierra has begun the process of shopping its remaining titles around to other publishers. These include Double Fine's hotly anticipated heavy metal adventure Brütal Legend. We're still awaiting word on its fate, but can't imagine Tim Schafer and crew letting a little publisher scuffle stop the rock.

I was looking forward to WET. It had a Kill Bill feel to it. I wonder what the fate of that game will be.

I feel bad for Tim. Seems like he's always getting the shaft in publisher deals.
Maybe Microsoft will pick it up and make it a 360 exclusive.

I don't get this. Isn't Sierra a part of Activision-Blizzard? How can they "search" for other developers when they are owned by one?

The Activision overlords will want a shitload of cash for any of those properties, especially as they've already sank millions into developement of them.
Whatever Sierra's PR say, i still don't think this looks too good for them. Until i hear otherwise i'm still gonna be sitting here wishing cancer upon the Blizzvision boardmembers.

If your option is to spend the hundreds of thousands to finish the project, then get a couple million and a share of sales from a new publisher versus throw millions into the trash can, common sense says finish the game.
You're going to lose money either way likely.

Still doesn't explain why Blizz-whatever doesn't publish them.
They have the biggest money-hat in the industry and make fuck-tons of cash a day off WoW-addicts, so its not like they're taking a financial risk with any of these.
Probably the result of a bunch of grey-haired fucknuts in suits during an investors meeting:
"More WoW, and and kids games too, they're hot right now. I don't even want to *see* anyone mention anything else!"

What's bizarre in all this is that the game was VERY prominently features at the Activision booth at San Diego Comic-con this last weekend.

But guess what was the first ever Comic Con panel I'd ever seen cancelled? That's right, the Ghostbusters video game panel. :( I was very sad.
However, I did hear there were problems with delayed flights all over Comic Con due to the storm back east, so maybe that's all it was.

I work at Gamestop and a week or two ago we received a very robust pre-order package with a shirt, some lanyards and numerous other items so I very highly doubt that they have even considered canceling it if they were going to spend that much on the items

As Shane said on 1up Yours, until this game gets coop, it should be called "Ghostbuster".
In the movie, it takes two people to capture a ghost. It's ridiculous you can't do that with a friend in the game.
