After the first month of Boom Blox's release, sales of EA's original, excellent built-for-Wii game didn't look too hot. Apparently, sales have come along quite nicely since then, according to statements made in a conference call last night.
EA CFO Eric Brown told investors that Boom Blox had sold 450,000 units since launch. Since Brown didn't specify the region in which those sales took place, it's probably worldwide. While 450,000 worldwide is not exactly a blockbuster (though Boom Blox kind of can't help but be a blockbuster), it's certainly a much happier number than the 60,000 quoted earlier. And that's the thing about this kind of "expanded audience" game that Nintendo likes so much: even if it doesn't sell a million in the first month, it'll sell steadily for a long time.
The question on our minds: which region is Boom Blox selling best in? Has Japan taken to it since its release this month?

Games like these are the "evergreens" and achieve their sales over longer periods of time.

It was originally coming out on WiiWare, wasn't it? I wonder what the sales for it would have been like if that happened.
Good to hear it's done well though.

Truthfully, I've gotten about as much milage outta this game as I have with Brawl so far.

Which is ... ? I mean, with Brawl the mileage can be "wow, 1000+ hours!!" or like "meh, 45."
Nonetheless, got this game for a little sibling a couple weeks ago because he ASKED for it. Spent ... 2 days? 3 days top on it and has yet to pick it up again. Mileage in my case was very low. We went around the block once, got bored, went home.

Well, I've played the CRAP out of Brawl, so that should tell you how much I like Boom.

After playing it I tend to agree that it's evergreen. Though I think EA picked the wrong crowd by trying to make it a 'game for kids' in their advertising, I think word of mouth and the fact that it is a good game will keep it selling well through Christmas at the least.

This is such a great party game. Have some friends over. Drink a few drinks. Smoke a bowl. And play some Boom Blox. Really, does Tuesday night get better than that??

I'm fairly certain I read on another website that Boom Blox has sold something like 700 copies in Japan. :P

I finally bought a copy of Boom Blox today. (So, 701 now?) After less than an hour of play, I can already see that is going to be much more fun/addicting/frustrating than I had expected. Good game at an excellent price!
By the way, I also bought Fatal Frame IV today and played for about an hour. I'll save my early impressions on that game for a later comment thread where it will be more on topic. ;)

I still need to pickup this game, but I don't know if I'll get around to it before it drops below $50. I'm entrenched in a couple other games at the moment, so I'm not in a hurry.

I think that half a thousand is great for a game that wasn't really advertised. Hopefully the slow burn will continue ...

Can anybody fill me in on the specifics of how to download levels created by others?

This game is crack melted and injected straight into the eyeballs. The single player game is meh; the multiplayer game is better; but the creation mode is fantastic. I would love to see this thing run on a system with some power. The block limit in creation mode is putting a cramp in my shrapnel showers. Best game I've bought for the Wii since Wii Sports.

I agree. Create mode is really what makes it a great game. I think if they advertized the create mode more, they would have sold more right away. I bought it because I already knew about create mode (from the review on this site). I've played it with two of my friends so far, and both of them said they HAVE to get it.
