Super Mario Galaxy was a masterpiece with an awesome soundtrack. I want some 2-D Samus action on the DS or even on WiiWare.

I don't know about SMG being a masterpiece, but I do know that I would run over a pillow case full of kittens to have a 2D Metroid game on my DS.

Gasp and surprise...

Nintendo has won, again.

Thoroughly shocked.

More shocking than Sony in 8th, and Microsoft in fourth.

Truly astounding.

But seriously, Nintendo, Gratz.

I guess it depends on what your criteria for 'best' is. If by best you mean "unprecedented quality control", Nintendo is pretty much at the bottom of the barrel.

As a publisher? Have you lost your goddamn mind?

How so? You are aware that they're talking about PUBLISHERS, right?

This isn't surprising. Nintendo has always been considered one of the best developers in the world. Most people that buy a Nintendo console buy one knowing that they'll be playing Nintendo developed games.

"review scores"
So i take it this is based solely on the games Nintendo develops themselves, and not every other piece of shovelware trash the Wii piles on

Yes, hence the, Publisher and not console manufacturer.

Geez, people. No one complained about the shitty games on the PS2. The most popular consoles get the most shovelware.

I don't think 90% of these commenters are aware of what a "publisher" is.

Yes, some people seem unaware that "publisher" and "developer" branch out into two different meanings.

So am I the only one who thinks that Nintendo's offerings have been totally lackluster this gen compared to what we're used to.

I mean, it's one thing to take a series like Halo and say Halo 1 was better FOR IT'S time than Halo 3 was for it's time". Halo 1 was a better game compared to what was out in the early 2000's than Halo 3 is compared to what is out now. But, straight up and if you had to pick one to play for the next 5 years, Halo 3 is a better game than Halo 1.

I feel like many of the iterations of Nintendo's franchises this gen are not only worse "in their time" than some of the older iterations, but are straight up worse games than their 10 year old counterparts.

Twilight Princess vs. Ocarina of Time. SMG vs. SM64. Mk Wii vs. MK64. If you gave me the choice, RIGHT NOW, of which I'd rather play, I'll take OoT, SM64, and MK64 over the current gen iterations without thinking twice. They weren't just better for their time, they're still better games to this very day. And those are 10 year old games!

I dunno, maybe that's just indicative of how freaking good those games 10 years ago were more than anything else.

You make some good points and I respect your opinion. I’m not sure if I agree with SM64 > SM Galaxy but I have such a serious case of franchise fatigue with Mario that I cannot tell which I like better. I think your spot on with the rest.

Well, considering Ocarina of Time and Mario 64 are two of the best games of all time, it's kinda hard to beat

Though i can't imagine dissatisfaction with Mario Galaxy. Twilight Princess i could kinda see (i think they went too dark and skipped on some of that Zelda charm), and you've always been one to gripe about the randomness of Mario Kart Wii, whereas i think Wii is the 2nd best in the franchise so far, after Double Dash, but Mario Galaxy should be remembered as one of the best games of this generation, because it is.

Plus Metroid Prime 3, which was vaguely lacking in the exploration department, but made up for it with some of the best atmospherics and epic gameplay yet.
