@Jonah Falcon - Spore doesn't count. It has been EAs headlining attraction for how many years now?

Spore DOES count. Yeah, so what if its appeared in other E3s? Does that mean it's an unoriginal game?

Did I miss the slew of Spore clones being released? Did EA announce Spore 2?

Does Spore DS, iPhone, PSP, Abacus and Calculator count as a Spore sequel?

Sure EA mentioned some new games. But common, its not like we learned anything new about spore. We have known all this stuff for almost 3 years.

Reason why they probably didn't say anything about it on ZP is because well its already OVER HYPED.

There's a reason for the hype around Spore, or did you miss the 2M+ creatures already made for it by fans?

Will Wright is considered one of the gaming gods.

I think the point is that E3 used to be where you would hear about a new game that isn't coming out until another year to 3 that you had never heard about before... Now it is just giving more info on titles we already knew about... Spore is not a sequel but it doesn't count because we already know everything there is to know about the game...

Sometimes I get a bit tired of the constant clamoring for completely new franchises all the time. Especially since half the people ranting and raving about original games completely shit their pants when Beyond Good and Evil 2 was announced, and would likely have another pants-shitting episode if Psychonauts 2 was ever conceived. I'll agree that whoring out popular franchise characters to 100 different unrelated games is ridiculous, but actual franchise entries are fine by me.

Funny thing is these are probably the people who never bought Okami for the PS2 (I only got it today for the Wii but I never owned a PS2) or Zack and Wiki for the Wii.

E3 is a business conference now. Seriously look at Nintendo, the show wasn't for the "core" gamers. It was for the investors, MSN, CNN and the constant news shows. Besides the only really big bomb was FF XIII going to the 360. That was it really, it was kind of just there.

If anything TGS and even E 4 All might be bigger than E3 now.

To be honest I didn't care for it.

It's Prince of Persia only this time it's a FPA!

Also it's EA. I wouldn't be surprise they ported Mirror's Edge to the DS because that's what they do.

You have to remember that a lot of the "original" games were shown at last years E3 and what he's talking about are games that were announce.

Not only that, but I was thinking about it and I think I know why a lot of people say E3 was pretty poor and I think it's now the way the press handle it.

Think about it, remember picking up a magazine back in the day the month after E3? No game had a real "hands-on" impression like they do now, every game was going to be the best game ever when it was previewed and it wasn't until they got a review copy that they suddenly changed their minds if it did suck. Now we get mini-reviews of what was actually played, which is better, but the buzz is dapened slightly. It's for the better of course so you don't get hyped up for a turkey of a game (Hell, I'm still rooting for Sonic :() but unless you only ever read threespeech's game impressions or something, there will always be something negative when someone gives an actual impression of a game.

While I agree that Zero Punctuation is a fad I think your assessment of his waning fan base is incorrect. The comments on his videos are not trending downward at all as they are based more so on the popularity and appeal of what is being reviewed. Historically his comments vary significantly and big name titles that probably get much more attention like MGS4 and Smash Bros have a lot more comments. I guess what I'm saying is that his weekly skit is still getting the same level of attention as it always has relative to his comments. Also I do not see something as being a fad detracting from its likability. It certainly can not add to the likability, however, I do recognize that it is indeed something that will more than likely garnish less and less attention as time moves forward and the possibilities for overly critical, fast talking game reviews dwindle.

Well, the fact that he quite literally made up flaws for Smash Bros helped spawn the outrage over his Brawl review, and then had the audacity to make fun of the people who tried to correct him (though granted he chose the less eloquent responses to make fun of)

Plus, who says a sequel is unoriginal? Try playing the six new game modes in Geometry Wars 2. (Okay, so Waves already was in PGR4.)

Also I like how he totally said that Sequels do better.

No duh ZP, seriously it doesn't take much when a Sequel out sells an original title. It happens, original IPs are sometimes always look down upon because some gamers like what is re-hashed basically comfortable. Imagine Mario not actually being a huge title and then Lu...Oh wait that already happened and some didn't buy into it. What happens if Halo doesn't star Master Chief? Oh wait that is in production too. Original IPs are nice however it's not always great when they are busts or no one cares.

Well, Halo Wars doesn't star Master Chief and it looks like a blockbuster.

Ditto Bungie's secret project which they've already said doesn't involve MC.

I thought he absolutely nailed it with regards to the lack of originality in character/game design, but if those were the only games he noticed from E3, he wasn't paying very close attention.

You must be joking? Two words: Mirror's Edge. Cel-shaded shooter with a unique look.

Another word: Braid. Just go see it in action.

Another 2 words: Pixeljunk Eden.

And Spore has a look and style of its own, too.

@ Jonah

He never said there are no original games, just that too many games nowadays have the protagonist as a gritty, macho spacemarine-type. See his "French Chef riding a stcikbug" part in the video.

And I said in my initial response that there were more games than the ones Yahtzee highlighted that look good. I'd also Mad World to your list of cool looking original games.

But it seems like these games are becoming the exception more than the rule.

When was Zero Punctuation funny? He's like Adam Sessler except with even dumber humor... I think the only review he had that I found funny at all was his Bioshock review (and he also pointed out that Bioshock was nothing more then a ripoff of other games).

Serious face mode:ON

I agree with everything but especially with POP new style. I hate POP new style so Ubisoft fuck you.

I'm aware the new style won't kill the game but this is Ubisoft so you never know (*Looks at Assasin's Creed) and the classic Arabian Nights theme which is still pretty awesome is replaced by anime g*yn*ss and yes I have to censure all the terms related with homosexuality because otherwise the system won’t let me reply. I know I will take heavy fire from Narutards and weea (*Spots people with paddles) *Ahem and Anime fans but I want to remind everyone that Anime is overrated and generally poorly written.

There are tons of manga and anime shows in Japan and only the best of them, which are 10% of the ones showed in Japan, make it to America.

America receives the best Anime shows but only 20% of those shows are watch-able and only 1% is good.

The worst about anime is that they can have a good idea but at the end the creator doesn't know what to do with it resulting in sh*tty endings 99.99% of the time.

FMA is so different from the manga you might as well tell FMA anime is set in a different dimension which is weird because the anime takes place in 2 different dimensions. The creator didn’t know what to do with the Anime and end it in a movie that ends in a cliffhanger and a final scene in the future were FMA is turn into a phenomena in a pseudo-real world were stupid kids buy the FMA trading cards, probably the creator wanted to create a Yu-gi-oh spin off.

Speaking of which Yu-gi-oh was pretty crapola, yu-gi-oh gx was even worse but at the end of GX it seems the mailman finally delivered the plot which was getting into something probably worth watching that we never got to watch because the series were abruptly canceled in order to bring (or summon if you want) an even shittier spin off of the series with motorcycles.

The worst is that GX season 4 was probably the best season the show ever had; It was short, good and straight to the point with fan service and probes that an anime can have a season of less than 25 episodes following a plot from the beginning to the end but is just that creators don’t feel like it. Why waste on creativity when you can use the same arc for 9 f*cking seasons.

If Naruto followed GX example the show would’ve ended already. The show is filler , filler and more filler Gosh I thought Inuyasha 3rd season abused of the filler but that was just preparation for Naruto.

Here I prove my point: Watch season 1, then 5, then watch 12 and you’ll notice Sasuke arc is still going after 7 seasons, WTF? But you know what the best part is:

*SPOILERS FOR NARUTARDS DO NOT READ.

It turns out that Sasuke brother was actually good, yes after the whole vengeance BS arc that last like 9 seasons (if I’m correct) the creator pulls out one of the biggest turds ever.

I pity Naruto fans and no, I don’t watch the show I just read the plot in TV.com to see if after all that filler there was something good at the end. Spoilers: There isn’t and I can’t wait people finds out, they will freak out…Oh yeah and Uncle Jiraya or whatever his name is dies.

ZP is a critic...the ONLY critic of gaming. Everyone else is just a "reviewer." That's his problem and also what makes him so amusing and right about almost everything.
He critiques games at the level that they should be...study beyond how a 5 year old perceives a toy as "really cool" or "lame." 99% of all games can't handle the pressure of such a thing. They are paper thin depictions of entertainment.
Honestly, Braid looks good and very clever. LBP is going to be a "flavor of the week." No, people you're not gonna invent the next 2d platformer. They died for a reason...it's been done to death for 20 years. Mirror's Edge seemed cool until I saw guns in it. Other than that...yeah, ZP is dead on again.

Interesitng how Alexander Sliwinski points out there were new IPs there but fails to name just a few. Not to mention the IPs that seem to be making their 2nd appearance, Fl0W to name one. What I dig about him isn't that his this witty review filled with piss & Vinegar but he comes off as if he really doesn't give a shit and doesn't shower games with perfect 10s every time a new sequel is released. I love HALO but even I understand it doesn't deserved the immediate reviewer fanfare that HALO 3 got which was really nothing more than more of the same just a continuation of the story-line. He reviews from a journalist who just happens to enjoy gaming as compare to gamers who happen to have landed a job reviewing games because of an A creative writing class. Not saying Alexander Sliwinski is one so please Alex it's not a dig at you.

Ultimately if there are NEW IPs coming out then please do a better job of covering them. The only new IPs I know of for this year is the one with the chick with the Clockwork Orange Eye, which doesn't really say much about the game.
