Cursed Mountain: Survival horror made just for Wii
32
Developer slash publisher Deep Silver – the cats working on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky – just announced a new survival horror title being built exclusively for the Wii: Cursed Mountain.
Citing a healthy dollop of 1980s charm, Himalayan mountains, cursed souls (of villagers, mountaineers, monks, etc.), and waggle-infused gestures, Deep Silver Managing Director Hannes Seifert says, "Cursed Mountain will deliver a unique, terrifying game play experience" when it's released in 2009. Until then, all we've got are a couple pieces of unique concept art and a terrifying logo. Bon appétit.

I would really like to hear of more survival horror games on the PS3 & 360. I know there was just Siren and Alone in the Dark, but we see this one and Fatal Frame going the Wii route, and thats a bummer. The Fatal Frame games could've really upped the scare factor.

Yeah a huge part of horror games are graphics and atmosphere, so it's a little puzzling they pick the weakest system available. They know it'll likely sell bad on the wii too since just about every non nintendo, non shitty game does.

Resident Evil 5 isn't horror either. It's just RE 4.5. Was anyone truly scared even once while playing RE 4? They gave us so many guns and ammunition it was impossible to be scared.
That's like saying Devil May Cry is a horror game.

Kind of a side note here, but in the latest Nintendo Power they gave Alone In The Dark a 4.7.
We will file this one under "believe it when I see it", as third party developers promise you milk and honey on the Wii, then deliver piss and vinegar.
I did enjoy RE4 on the Wii, though.

I wouldn't quite say "scared", but I got pretty stressed out during that very first village battle fo' sho'... and that first blind Iron Maiden guy.
I'm glad something like this is coming out on the Wii... even though I don't know what this is. I'm still glad.

Say it with me:
Resident Evil is no longer survival horror. It is an action shooter.
Similarly, Silent Hill is no longer survival horror. It's Buffy the Silent Vampire Slayer on the Hill.

Why is this a bummer again? Don't you own a Wii?

tmacairjordan87,
You talk about the graphics and then talk about the Wii being the weakest system.
While it's rue that it is the weakest of the current gen. it's still more powerful than the original Xbox and GC (Re: RE4 and Halo2 among other good-looking games), so the system would not be to blame if the graphics were not great.

You're slightly right. Horror games are all about atmosphere, but graphics can only add to the experience. Besides, the screenshots and gameplay I've seen shows pretty good graphics, 360 quality with a slightly lower poly count. Also, I don't believe that Fatal Frame or this would be guranteed success on the 360 or PS3. Now, I predict that some one here is going to argue how RE 5 will sell like the dogs bullocks, so let me get this out of the way.
1. RE 5 is a sequel to a highly popular game in a series that has a track record of American Success
2. Capcom is going to market the hell out of it.
Now, Fatal Frame has never had great American success, but with Nintendo publishing it, it gives the hope of a marketing campaign and negates your whole "Non-Nintendo" argument. Plus, I'm not sure that Deep Silver has enough of a budget to market STALKER as well as this. This and Fatal Frame seem perfect for Nintendo to run commercials on networks such as Sci-Fi and such. Now insert a comment about how Nintendo "Doesn't want to spend money" and such.
Also Duke, I heard that Tecmo is considering a PS3 Fatal Frame, so there may be hope for you yet.

The whole "screenshots and videos" refers to Fatal Frame, not this

Yes! FUCK that mouth-breathing Regenerator, walking down the hall while I'm out of ammo.

I'll mention the regenerators once more. Just the entry of the first one was bad enough, then the HOLY FUCKING SHIT when he jumps up after you take his legs out and you think it's safe to run past him, then once more the stretching arms to grab and munch loudly on your neck thing, and, yes, the breathing one in the dark that's nowhere to be seen.
There was the big fucking thing in the lake while you were in the rickety old boat, but I guess that only applies to people who have a phobia for that kind of stuff.
Right Hand.
The thing in the dropping containers.
Still, I take your point about the RE franchise. RE should be about figuring out mysterious crap in a nonlinear environment while always being low on ammo and health, not some untouchable touch guy shooter kind of unscary bullshit that basically drags you by the arm along a boring as shit linear path.

It's supposed to have a "different" take on horror violence. Something akin to having to fear the environment as much as the things infesting it

Nice, but go and sit in a corner with The Sadness until you show some actual screen shots.

Well if it's as good as the pic looks as well as associated with S.T.A.L.K.E.R., gonna buy me another Wii. No fanboys here-I got 9 systems [but no Wii]

This sounded great right up until the mention of gesture recognition.
Gesture recognition is the Wii equivalent of "Blow/yell into the microphone."

God. The term 'waggle' is more than a little overused. That and 'using the Wii to its full potential'. Someone says those to my face, they're gonna get a stabbin'.

Joystiq stop saying waggle, it's just as much as a fanboy term as M$ or POS3. Really, it just adds flame to the fire.

Isn't S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky just being published by Deep Silver, and GSC Game World is developing it? I'm confused.

graphics make a game scary?? then doom 3 should be 20X as scary as system shock 2 right?? I don't think so.

Stop lying to people. Deep Silver is only publishing Clear Sky, and only in Europe.

2009 will be a great year for the Wii. There, I said it. Of course, I have absolutely no evidence to back this statement up, but I just have an awesome feeling about it.

Err... Deep Silver is NOT working on STALKER Clear Sky. They are just publishing it.
And STALKER original had THQ as its major publisher. Both were developed by GSC Game World, which I remember has no intention on making a Wii title.

This will be a great game for Wii only owners. It’s not for me though. I don’t want to play a traditional game on a non-traditional system.
