This week, Monster Hunter faces some competition. One of the big selling points of Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G was its free DLC, available weekly for eager fans. Just days after its launch in Japan, Sega is also making free Phantasy Star Portable DLC available. The first thing you're going to kill? A very Monster Hunter-dragon. Do you smell the competition in the air?
While both of these PSP RPGs go head-to-head in Japan with tons of features for fans, we're left here on this side of the Pacific, scratching our heads. Why don't we get this cool stuff too?

Yeah, totally. Please, please please take my money, Sony. I have it right here. I know the US dollar has fallen, but not so far as to be worthless.

It's pretty damn useless compared to the yen or even the canadian dollar.

Well I actually didn't like the Phantasy Star Portable demo. The combat was so boring with the weapons they give to you.
I'd prefer Monster Hunter even though I didn't enjoy it that much either. (I own the first one)

Probably has something to do with us not buying PSP games, I'd guess.
Capcom brought over the first MH, and while rabidly popular on places like Gamefaqs, it sold poorly, hitting the bargain bins pretty early.
Sega also supported the PSP pretty well, mostly with junk or DC ports, but also some original titles like Crush, which flopped

Shh, Jeremy! Nobody wants to hear about poor sales. As far as they are concerned, everybody buys these games in droves over here.
Well, unless the game is "junk". Which is basically EVERY game, since I've heard every lame excuse in the book to pirate even the very best games ("too short", "graphics not good enough", "no multiplayer", etc, etc, etc). We want it all for free, and then we wonder why nobody wants to localize all these games for countries outside Japan. *sheesh*

We're getting forgotten on every front... absolutely NOTHING for the PC Store update, too.

Phantasy Star Portable is, to me, distilled PSU. Cleaned of the rampant porn trading and ridiculous MMO component. The demo was amazing, I sunk 6 hours into it. The game is a more accessible Monster Hunter- It'd probably do really well with children, and be deep enough for adults to.
I'M THROWING MY MONEY AT YOU CAPCOM, COME PICK IT UP!

I didn't play through the single-player that much (only once), but since I'd known the PSU interface well already, the multiplayer had me hooked on upgrading and finding the new gear and leveling.

Cafecito, stop blowing your ignorance into every thread that has to do with large IP's in Japan not coming to the US. Piracy has nothing to do with it.

Well that's because broad sweeping statements like the ones about piracy being to blame are always at least partly wrong, even if they're partly right.
We don't need people whining that flash cards are the problem, because they're not. Do you have any idea how BIG piracy is in ASIA? Right on their own doorstep? Many times larger than in the US and Europe combined, yet they're concentrating on eliminating the R4 in the US and EU. Why not in Japan then?
Now tell me again how piracy is to blame for this? Yeah, utter BS.

Christopher, you're full of bull. Piracy IS an issue, no matter how you keep denying it. Sony and 3rd party developers have already acknowledged it, and that's the LAST thing a company does. Bet you keep trying to defend it just because you pirate your games yourself. What a cynical jerk. And yeah, there's piracy everywhere, in Asia too, but they at least BUY SOME GAMES.

Can I please view the comments for at least one post WITHOUT STUPID RETARDED PIRACY ARGUMENTS?!
On side says that it is Sony's fault for neglecting the PSP.
Another side says that it is piracy at fault.
Both sides are to varying degrees correct but neither will admit it.
Then there are:
1) The pirates who try to justify themselves. (You know it is wrong)
2) The select members of the "I blame piracy" group who think anyone who doesn't agree with them must be a pirate.
3) The people who don't listen to other peoples' views and state rumours and assumptions as fact. (Yes I am looking at most of you when it comes to this one)
This is a neverending war that is as bad as the "DS vs PSP" arguments.
Please can you not bring it up again. It is annoying.
