iPhone gets (unoffical) World of Warcraft apps
A marriage of MMO powerhouse World of Warcraft and mobile phones may seem technically unsound, but it's not exactly a pipe dream either. First there was the guy who sort of, kind of but not really was able to get WoW up and running on his iPhone, then there was Blizzard's own admission that it was trying to find a way to utilize cell phones for some sort of WoW application. Now, it seems the team's been beaten to the punch by a couple of new iPhone apps. The first, Warcraft Characters, allows you to enter character and realm name and check out a few character stats (no gear, though). The second, WarcraftStat allows you to check your realm's status even when you're out and about, the implications of which are almost too depressing to consider.
OK, so they're not exactly fully-featured, but hopefully they'll pacify until Blizzard gets busy.

Maybe the WOW players should just enjoy the time they get when they're in the real World

srsly.
If it wasn't for booze and the need to feed/clean, I don't think my ex-roommate would've left her chair.

I don't think these apps will find much use considering WoW players don't ever seem to leave their computer.

Don't lie foxhound, there are no girls on the internetz.
Yawn @ Jul 31st 2008 2:07PM
....you could already kinda find all that stuff and more using safari.
WOWARMORY has character stats and with gear and theres a server check too.
Now,playing WOW,even just being able to check the AH or talk, that would be a big step.

I was going to say.... aren't there websites out there that do all this, and can't the iPhone browse said websites?
And guys, seriously, don't bash the WoW players so much. For fuck's sake, you're posting on joystiq... you can't tell me you haven't played 8+ hour video game marathons yourself. Maybe not as often as WoW players do, but really. Kettle, pot, glass houses etc.
Duke @ Jul 31st 2008 2:52PM
Nate, funny is funny. Relax, its just playing.
Aaron @ Jul 31st 2008 2:06PM
I hope these apps are just jokes that output a giant "YOU ARE A LOSER" message when you run them on your iPhone.

Do they get out an about? Maybe an app that tells them what its like in the real world. You know, the world without elves.
Sora @ Jul 31st 2008 3:15PM
No elves? But...but...doesn't Santa use elves?!
Mr.Ironic @ Jul 31st 2008 4:32PM
LOL Who would play Neo in the real world?

Is it that important to keep tabs on your MMO characters at all times? I feel like I woke up in another country when I read about MMO news.
Gate @ Jul 31st 2008 4:20PM
Only in EVE

As pointed out by all others above me these apps are useful challenged. You can get all this info on the web which the iphone can access and secondly, who the hell needs to look up that kind of stuff on their WoW characters when they aren't infront of a machine that can play it.
A better app would be a black book full of hookers, using the GPS to show WoW players the shourtest route to some Tang!
