As the tips flowed in, saying that every major retailer out there was selling the new 60GB Xbox 360, our dreams of full-blown retail anarchy were dashed by word that there is no street date attached to the unit. We were first told to expect the new model sometime in August, but Microsoft's Major Nelson confirmed to X3F, "Nope ... they'll just appear in the retail channels."
If you've been waiting for the 60GB model, check with your local retailer, as the console might very well be available. If you want to take the internet route, Amazon is already selling them as well. Now we go back to praying to our dark lords for the end of all street dates. Diablo, grant us anarchy!

Yeah like when you install a firmware and it borks your system and you have to format and you lose every save file, awesome.

If you get the Datel XSata kit (~$24.99) you can copy all the files off your 360 hard drive to a PC and then back to the new drive later (it's a little weird since the folders are all numbers, but there are websites to help you decipher which ones are which). I also uses this to get original xbox saves to the 360.
