I like how developers and MS constantly go back and forth on who sets the prices. When the Guitar Hero II backlash hit (over prices of DLC songs), Major Nelson and other MS reps swore up and down that "they" set the price. And we've seen multiple instances of the developer saying the exact opposite.

I guess their approach is "if they don't know who to be mad at, they won't be mad." I think it backfired though, since people wind up just mad at everyone. Even the guys behind Castle Crashers, probably the most anticipated original game ever on the service, took some crap from people over the exorbitant price prior to this new announcement.

I'm not going to speak for GA but I think he was being sarcastic.

I wouldn't be too surprised if it was 1600 points, since that Penny Arcade game broke the 1200 point barrier a while back.

As long as it is not 1800, (1600 is pushing it...) I'll be happy. Ideally the pricing could settle somewhere in the 800 to 1200 point range, that'd be nice.

People really forget about Bankshot Billiards, which launched at 1200 pts or $15.

I would like Castsle Crashers to be 800 pts, but we'll see. Any higher isn't necessarily a deal breaker, it would just keep it from being a "buy before try" game.

The reason why 1600 is much easier to swallow than 1800 is just pure perception.

At the store you can buy a 1600 point card. When you think about a game costing 1600 points you equate it to just one card. But if a game costs more than that then you have to buy two cards and be left with some overflow.

It is the same reason why things sell for $9.99 instead of $10.00. Because people see that 9 and perceive it to be a greater value even though they are only saving a penny.

Solution to this problem:

Go to your local grocery store, buy 25 dollar Visa gift card. Redeem 25 giftcard on Live use the money to buy Castle Crashers. You just saved yourself 15 bucks.

Isn't Alien Homminid a 5 dollar game now?

If it is over 10 my guess it that its most likely because they saw all the suckers that bought penny arcade and want a piece of that.

Thats just great, first bread then milk then gas and now the average price for a decent arcade game goes up whats next? Live subscription price? Why not right?

If the game has more then 10 dollars of content, why would you be so hesitant to pay more then 10 dollars for it?

I know it's an "Xbox Live Arcade" game, but if it's worth the 1200 points or whatever it may be, whats stops you from paying that?

If it really bothers you, don't buy it. Simple. The rest of us will be having a blast with the game.

I just dont think the game is worth more than ten bucks.

I've seen it run and people playing it.
I'll get it for ten like I said but honestly I never play Alien Hominid anymore so I'm not too happy to pay more than ten for a game that I'll say goodbye to after I get the 200 gs outa it. The online play will probly be gimped too like most arcade games.

Isn't the price set by the publisher? So for GH DLC, blame Activision.

Maybe MS have a greater input on price for XBLA products than for DLC...

Alien Hominid released on GCN and PS2 for $20.
For Castle Crashers, I'm willing to pay $20, but no more.
There's no doubt that Behemoth put more work and effort into this than some $60 titles, but I don't feel like paying more for a 2D title that is just datat on ym harddrive.

Actually I bought Alien homminid on GC for 40 dollars new then I got it on the xbox for 20 then I rebought it in the arcade for 800 points.
Don't dare say I havn't supported your ass Dan Paladin. I'm not getting this game though if it is over 800 points unless I get some free points down the road or something.

See I don't see why this should be Microsoft's call and if it is that doesn't quite seem right. Though I know MS probably does strongly encourage a game to be priced a certain way and do hold the power to veto a games ability to be on live. And I am sure for big games MS works deals some free ads better commission rates etc to curve the prices(I would even imagine for some games they may even give the developer assurance they will sell x number of units or be compensated).

MS is debating just how much they can get away with charging gamers without sending them into a revolt because they're well aware of the large number of gamers that've been looking forward to this game.
