LittleBigPlanet coming to Japan Oct. 30
Big news: The Japanese part of the Planet is going to get a little Littler this October, as Sony's Japanese press site brings word that LittleBigPlanet is coming to the country on Oct. 30 for 5980 yen ($56). Still no word on when the game will come to other parts of the planet, but this official Japanese date seems to line up with the rumored 10/21 U.S. release date hinted at by a Target reservation card.

i could have sworn i read somewhere that LBP would go for $40 in the US like the headsetless warhawk when it first came out. was i dreaming?
AlterEgo @ Aug 1st 2008 12:28PM
Maybe SOCOM, but never LBP (to my recollection)
Nightvortez @ Aug 1st 2008 12:44PM
When it was first introduced it was meant to be nothing more than a glorified PSN games with a level editor and levels which you would download designed by people. The whole thing kind of changed now and they have more than 50 developer levels with a story narrated by Stephen Fry, and a customization and networking options beyond belief.
It's pretty much a case of them rolling out a concept, then the publisher taking it and expanding it in all possible directions creating a full game, and basically that's why it isn't a $40 PSN game like it was once proposed to be.
Dr. @ Aug 1st 2008 11:42AM
This will be the first (and last :P) day I'll wish I owned a PS3. :(
Saria the Cat @ Aug 1st 2008 11:49AM
If only FFXIII was still going to be PS3 exclusive, then I would have a PS3 in my possession now. Otherwise, these PS3 games coming out like LBP (or PSN, like Fat Princess) look tantalizing but not enough for me to drop down some hundreds of dollars.
FOXHOUND @ Aug 1st 2008 12:00PM
...Buy it used or refurbished? There's a shop locally(I'm in Florida)selling an 80GB in good condition for $279, but I wouldn't doubt other electronic (or even pawn) shops selling it at nearly the same rate.
It's not for everyone, but yeah. Just throwin' that out there. :]
Mr.ESC @ Aug 1st 2008 1:26PM
Buying refurnished was only worth if you wanted to mod the console otherwise I wouldn’t recommend it.
You can easily look for a good bundle in internet or local store, pseudo-small stores handle good prices in consoles. Even if it cost 400$ If you get 100$ of content is worth it.
In my case FF is not my cup of tea, KZ previews are grim ,Socom is probably going to be awesome but after playing B:BB and COD4 and I’m tired of shooters so I’m more into suspense games like Alone in the Dark and Condemned SO I might buy Siren for the PS3.
I’m waiting for a Price drop since the PS3 is very expensive here, like almost the double so when they ship a 400$ bundle with MGS4 and a Dual shock 3 (Or at least LBP) I might buy it.
BananaBoat @ Aug 1st 2008 1:41PM
You'd buy a new console for the thirteenth iteration of a tired and worn out series, but not for a genius new game the likes of which has never been seen before?
O_O
Saria the Cat @ Aug 1st 2008 2:43PM
I do know places where I could get a really good deal on the PS3 but I just can't justify the cost yet. I wish there were bigger, physical titles (not PSN) that would push me over the edge.
@BananaBoat: Yes, I'd buy a new console for a thirteenth iteration of a series I don't feel is tired and worn out, especially if it will give me 90+ hours of single-player gameplay while I can't hope for the same from LBP or Fat Princess. :P
And don't get me started on long series of awesomeness. I say, don't fix what ain't broke when it comes to tried and true games like FF, Mario, Zelda, etc. Innovation is great but sometimes I really DO just want another installment of my favorite stuff.
Sora @ Aug 1st 2008 2:47PM
No, he meant that he'd buy it for BOTH of them. Just one of them isn't worth it.
Saria the Cat @ Aug 1st 2008 2:55PM
Oh, and yes, I meant I would buy a PS3 because I'd both have the incentive of the FF exclusive and games like LBP and Fat Princess. But without FF, I'm not willing to buy the system. And if it was just FF coming out and NOT LBP or Fat Princess, I would also be hesitant. I just need more incentive, period.
JoeTheBlow @ Aug 1st 2008 4:59PM
Just stop buying make-up and Hello Kitty stuff for a couple of days and you'll have the cash for a PS3.
Honestly, bloody women.
Saria the Cat @ Aug 1st 2008 5:04PM
@JoeTheBlow: Wow, that's possibly the most ignorant and sexist comment I've ever received. Congratulations.
JoeTheBlow @ Aug 1st 2008 6:06PM

Jesus, you spend too much time here.
Saria the Cat @ Aug 1st 2008 6:17PM

Park Zero @ Aug 1st 2008 11:50AM
Yeah LBP does make me want a PS3. I’ll bet it will be more of a system seller than MGS4
Jakka (Not sure why he got banned?) @ Aug 1st 2008 12:13PM
No. It won't. This game is just way to heavily hyped.
Aside from UCC(User Created Content) there's nothing else exciting about this game. And while UCC is always a great feature, even if they lay out the system the same way Bungie did(and it's almost as good as it can get),you'll still have to dig through piles of shit in order to find a fun map.
I'm sorry but if MGS4 and GTA4 failed to set the world on fire then I doubt that a "kiddie game" like LBP could.I'm sure it will be fun and awesome but it far from being a system seller.Put in it's niche market along with Viva Piniata and new Banjo.Oh and STOP OVERHYPING OR WE'LL SUFFER FROM ANOTHER HALO 3!
Jakka (Not sure why he got banned?) @ Aug 1st 2008 12:44PM
Aww...no matter how polite you're trying to be, you'll always get downvoted just because your opinion =/= opinion of the majority.
How can any of you say that Joystiq is biased if any post that's even slightly anti-Sony or anti-Playstation gets downvoted to hell?
h0mi @ Aug 1st 2008 1:06PM
I dont see LBP becoming a system seller unless "Sack-things" become a craze that spawns a tv show and all sorts of things like that. It's also a pretty casual game which is a little ironic given the level of hate & animus for the Wii and 'what it's done to gaming' from ps3 fanboys.
samfish @ Aug 1st 2008 1:22PM
There is absolutely NOTHING casual about LBP. It's a freakin' level editor at it's heart and level editing is about as hardcore as you can get. Always has been.
Just because it LOOKS like it's friendly and for kids doesn't mean it really is.
Plus, I'd also like someone to point at to me at what point platformers also became 'causal'.
borland502 (SDF Macross) @ Aug 1st 2008 1:37PM
"even slightly anti-Sony or anti-Playstation gets downvoted to hell?"
Then let me break it down for you lad. No, Joystiq is not anti-[platform], but let's take Halo3 for example. Whom do you think is going to click on a Halo 3 article more?
...
...
...
In order of numbers it's Halo Fans, Halo Haters, and the curious. So when you whip out the "overhyped" card your ass is getting down voted no matter how polite the answer. Especially when you use CAPS.
Want to fight the power? Learn to phrase your dissent better.
borland502 (SDF Macross) @ Aug 1st 2008 1:42PM
"Just because it LOOKS like it's friendly and for kids doesn't mean it really is."
In entertainment looks can be reality. I think 1UP made a good point with Pokemon. That's some hard core number crunching shit right there. If the shell is pretty, friendly, and has a bit of luck then most people will be spending hours designing levels without feeling it's work.
My second point is Sims 2. Do you realize how many hundreds of hours women (and men) sink into that game designing challenges, designing houses, and building dynasties of Sims? It's considered a "casual game", but it has made a tidy sum.
Sorry Samfish, but I'm going to have to call bullshit on your assertion. This ain't the level editors of our day in Doom.
baby sea tuna @ Aug 1st 2008 1:47PM
"Plus, I'd also like someone to point at to me at what point platformers also became 'causal'"
See: Braid.
Unless, of course, you meant 'casual', in which case See: Super Mario Bros.
Mr Khan @ Aug 1st 2008 2:20PM
It's a "bridge" title, that can bring in everyone
Which isn't a guarantee for success, but really does help. I have a feeling that this game will push great sales, but probably won't break out and take over the earth
Mr Khan @ Aug 1st 2008 2:23PM
Macross has it right. Certain articles will be "owned" by certain interest groups, based on the tone and affiliation of the article
An Anti-Nintendo article which is a fair complaint against Nintendo will be ruled by the haters, and the NDF will find themselves downvoted for truth, while a pro-EA article will bring EA supporters out of the woodwork, and the old-school haters will get downvoted for truth
It's all about who the article in question caters to
4MyFriends @ Aug 1st 2008 11:56AM
It's a shame this game will not sell well due to being marketed to the wrong demographic.
Illusion8400 @ Aug 1st 2008 12:04PM
Wrong demographic???? Who should it be marketed to??? It's being marketed to everyone.... Unless you have insider info on who the game is for..... Or do you just mean that it's not on a Wiiiiiiiiii
LiqwidZero @ Aug 1st 2008 12:03PM
What demographic? The "awesome" demographic? I like seeing myself in the "awesome" demographic--playing awesome games, like Little Big Planet.
browntown @ Aug 1st 2008 12:04PM
Hardcore gamers will buy this, if they know the concept of it, i can't wait to create some crazy levels.
Mr Khan @ Aug 1st 2008 2:27PM
We don't exactly know how this game is going to be marketed yet. All we have in support of the game is all of the well-deserved hype across the internet
They could miss the mark badly, like Microsoft did with Viva Pinata, or EA with Boom Blox, or they could nail it
What they need to do is follow Nintendo's cue for marketing Mario Kart Wii (sans the gratingly irritating cowboy salesman), and have seperate commercials advertising the different facets of the game that may appeal to different groups, which could allow the game to break out and become a cross-demo hit
Jody Anthony (gamertag and psn: JodyAnthony) @ Aug 1st 2008 12:04PM
while i loved every moment of mgs4, little big planet is what made me want a ps3.
JoeTheBlow @ Aug 1st 2008 5:04PM
It just gets better and better.
And i've only had it a year!
Best 1st year of console-ownership ever.
343 Guilty Fart @ Aug 1st 2008 8:01PM
I just picked up a PS3 two weeks ago for this and MGS. Can't wait!
EliteBeatsAgent08 @ Aug 1st 2008 12:09PM
The more I hear about this game the more obvious it becomes that it's just an empty suit. I feel like it's pretending to be some huge game full of so much STUFF to do but really you'll get it, put in it, maybe play thru a few platforming levels and say, "Ohh how kiddie/cute@!", beat the final boss (if there is one), maybe make a few "levels", and ultimately get bored with it after a few days.
Sorry I'm just not seeing what the huge deal is about this game.
But at least sony fanboys can now say "just wait till Oct. 30th" (at least in Japan that is).
Only ps3 games I'm remotely interested in now are God of War 3 and FFXIII Versus (which I'm kinda thinking/hoping is a timed exclusive). Before the sdf starts freaking out and pulling out quotes left and right about how its CONFIRMED exclusive let me just remind them of how many times they said that in the past 2 years regarding FFXIII, DMC4, and countless other significant ps3 "exclusive" titles.
Oh well back to Soul Calibur IV.
cc123 @ Aug 1st 2008 12:19PM
Ah ThePremiereAssbag's new name. Did your last one get banned too?
Monk Jeda @ Sep 14th 2008 8:05PM
The game is not pretending to be anything other than what it looks - a cute fun game, with infinite replayability because of the user created content. It WILL appeal to a wide demographic, esp. those games with kids.
j.howlett @ Aug 1st 2008 12:23PM
now that we know you have no interest in the game and reasons for it besides it being on the ps3, are you done posring in stories about it? not responding is a valid answer

j.howlett @ Aug 1st 2008 12:41PM

He has been posting here for a very long time under countless names. I've tried dealing with him like a normal person, as have other people, and it's pointless. His intentions are very transparent by now anyway. He is as worthless a fanboy as it gets.
So why don't you find out what you're talking about before you open your mouth, Jakka.

" Sorry but it is too Kiddie game "
"I am sorry there is no point in this game"
"This game looks ass"
These are some of comments that reflect the people who did not watch the trailers, did not read the game discerption, or simply typical Sony haters, whose minds only care about systems wars.
Kiddie game, yet people who called it that way are the same people excited for new Banjoo Kazooie game.
"I am sorry there is no point in this game"
SMG has no point either and so R&C. Again why do you play games if there is no point in them.
"This game looks ass"
Heh!...and they say (Graphics don't matter, gameplay matters). Either there is a dust in your eyes, or your vision is too bad.
So far the game looks amazing. Who does hate 2D platforming? So far, the videos were amazing. I can't wait to see The Dark Knight theme level
