No Star Wars DLC for Soul Calibur IV, says game's director
What's wrong with this picture? It directly contradicts what Soul Calibur IV director Katsutoshi Sasaki said in a recent interview, that's what. Specifically, Sasaki responded "we don't have any plans for that" when asked by XCN if we'd ever see both characters from a galaxy far, far away battling each other on the same console.
You can't get much more official than the game's director, but his comments don't explain screenshots (such as the one above) and video that have appeared on the net clearly (and seemingly authentically) showing both Yoda and Vader in the same version of SCIV. We can't help but think Sasaki is practicing his Jedi mind tricks on us with this one.

That would be amazingly stupid of them.
Obie @ Aug 1st 2008 10:34PM
Fanboy: Let me see your DLC!
Sasaki: [with a small wave of his hand] You don't need to see our DLC.
Fanboy: We don't need to see his DLC.
Sasaki: These aren't the DLC you're looking for.

Sasaki: I can go about my business.
Fanboy: You can go about your business.
Sasaki: Move along.
Fanboy: Move along... move along.

Lol good one.
Jakka (Not sure why he got banned?) @ Aug 2nd 2008 8:29AM
Bastard a Sasaki is.
giantenemycrab @ Aug 1st 2008 10:36PM
Lies.
Ghen @ Aug 2nd 2008 7:05AM
He's so bad at lying ;)
Rollins @ Aug 1st 2008 10:39PM
So who the hell is in the slot next to the Apprentice? I've unlocked everyone that the internet knows how to unlock. I assumed it was Vader/Yoda (depending on your version). Bah.
Alex @ Aug 1st 2008 10:41PM
i see three possibilities.
1) we're gonna have to pay out of our asses to get the DLC, and sasaki just doesn't want spoil the news yet.
2) there truly is not DLC, and the video and screenshots we saw must be fabricated (pretty damn well) or just developers experimenting for fun.
3) there must be some EXTREME circumstances that would allow a player to unlock yoda or vader, depending on their platform.
nxtiak @ Aug 1st 2008 10:42PM
False advertisement? All the tv commercials I've seen show Yoda and Vader fighting each other. I say return your game to the store and claim false advertisement. And screw their return policy since the game is opened, since the game box shows both Yoda and Vader too!
Rollins @ Aug 1st 2008 10:46PM
What the hell are you talking about?
mr mobius @ Aug 1st 2008 10:50PM
Basically that they will have their asses sued for false advertisement if the option doesn't exist. Apparently.
I've never looked at the back of the boxes.
Noshino @ Aug 1st 2008 10:51PM
dude, pineapple express is a no no...
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Aug 1st 2008 11:00PM
The commercials show no such thing, the box shows no such thing.
Dovi @ Aug 1st 2008 11:34PM
What commercials are you watching nxtiak?
BPM [MSN: BPMdotEXE @ hotmail.com] @ Aug 2nd 2008 2:28PM
He's seeing the one that airs only in his mind.
SKI @ Aug 1st 2008 10:55PM
Maybe they are together in an arcade or PC port? That's the only way to reconcile both the pics and that statement by the director.
Sora @ Aug 1st 2008 11:07PM
Doesn't explain why they left a slot for the other in each of the current versions...
Brian @ Aug 1st 2008 11:02PM
with that character creator... Could you give a lightsaber to any character?
Daniel @ Aug 2nd 2008 9:36AM
No, you can't.
Nate @ Aug 1st 2008 11:02PM
They're not DLC. They're already on the disk. Paying for them just opens them up. So, technically, he's not lying.
At least, that's my guess.
Brian Fantana @ Aug 3rd 2008 12:53PM
Sounds about right.
Thats what I was thinking. Until Vader is available for 360, I won't be buying it.
Roto13 @ Aug 1st 2008 11:05PM
I'm not convinced. There's a big blank space right between Vader and The Apprentice. If you pay attention to the character select screen, characters are placed next to other characters they have some relationship with.
Also, you know, the videos.
Exo @ Aug 1st 2008 11:18PM
No you see, you can still get vader in the 360 game, namco is being honest about no dlc, cause all the fucking content is already on the disc. what they make you buy is keys that unlock what you have already paid for.
EliteBeatsAgent08 @ Aug 1st 2008 11:28PM
I this is a straight up bs lie. However either way doesn't really matter to me.
I'm just very happy with Ivy's ending...:)
Dovi @ Aug 1st 2008 11:30PM
PC port plz.
Ninjakamster (PS360 FTW!) @ Aug 2nd 2008 12:16AM
I would like a PC port, we must be the only two that want it, fighting games haven't been on the PC for years for obvious reasons! : )
Dovi @ Aug 2nd 2008 3:23AM
At least we're getting Street Fighter IV
coldbrand @ Aug 1st 2008 11:43PM
What a bunch of shit. Stop screwing over the users and just give us both characters.
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Aug 2nd 2008 12:47AM
As a player that doesn't have to face a broken character all the time like 360 owners... I don't mind. Really. Primary complaint is there are too many Yoda's online right now.
Tyler Jones @ Aug 2nd 2008 12:10AM
time for hax...
MellowNinja @ Aug 2nd 2008 12:55AM
Seriously, why deny this if it's true? The video is obviously real, and most of us that own the game are willing to pay for the DLC. I know I am.
Do they not want to make extra money? Sasaki = Idiot.
Shiaoran @ Aug 2nd 2008 1:19AM
Soon contradict him good news will, yes. *heavy breath*
modified @ Aug 2nd 2008 1:49AM
Can he explain what the blank spot next to Yoda is for?
tmmoore_nc @ Aug 2nd 2008 2:19AM
Well it's not downloadable content. Because Yoda and Vader are already on both versions' discs. Therefore, you're downloading unlocks, not characters. See how sneaky that is?
Ouroboros10 @ Aug 2nd 2008 2:41AM
Get the hell off this topic, and this site you f***ing spammer. You seriously should be banned, if it is possible.
Nobody here gives two shits about whatever crap you're trying to sell.
Dio @ Aug 2nd 2008 5:50AM
Your lack of faith disturbs me, Sasaki.
Chilly Willy @ Aug 2nd 2008 6:13AM
Ouroboros10:
It's a spam program. You're getting angry and swearing at a piece of software coding.
As cathartic as that may be, it's not very effective. Save your anger for a time when it may prove useful. Now is not that time.
Silvio6 @ Aug 2nd 2008 6:32AM
We want PS3 gamers to compete with XBox360 Gamers ! why not make a connexion between Live and Sony servers ? that would be good ! Or Users hosting servers, and game developers allowing different platforms to compete !!!
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Aug 2nd 2008 10:36AM
Microsoft wouldn't allow it. Period.
Lord Bowser @ Aug 2nd 2008 6:37AM
Like I've said before, Brawl is the greatest fighting game since Marvel Vs Capcom 2. But it has the edge over MVSC due to its incredibly balanced roster. Nobody is too strong or too weak. And it's so fun, like you would never believe.
Soul Caliber is SSBB's shadow.
The Fatass of Kickassness @ Aug 2nd 2008 7:04PM
God, shaddup with that already. Brawl is a beat 'em up at it's core and while it can get competitive and it is really, really fun, it doesn't have the depth to stand up to the fighting systems of other games.
Take this shit to an arcade full o' people who have been playing fighting games all their lives and they'll laugh in your face. Or spit in it. One of the two.
Garou FTW.
The Fatass of Kickassness @ Aug 2nd 2008 7:07PM
You know what? I'll concede to you. And I'll back you up in future comment threads.
On one condition.
You beat me in Brawl. 1 on 1, no items. You know how it goes.
Kizzle @ Aug 2nd 2008 7:23PM
Brawl is a button masher for kids. GTFO and have a terrible day.
The Fatass of Kickassness @ Aug 2nd 2008 7:29PM
"Brawl is a button masher for kids. GTFO and have a terrible day."
Way to convey the same thing as I did but in a way that makes you look and sound like a complete and utter ass. Beat 'em up doesn't always = button masher, mang, and while Brawl isn't all that deep, try that shit against someone who knows what they're doing and you're gonna lose. Period.
Lord Bowser @ Aug 3rd 2008 4:59AM
Yeah, I'll play you when I get better, Fatass. I only started playing this game at the Euro release, but you North Americans have had a whole 2-3 month head start. Plus, I never played Melee, so I won't be a match for you - for now, of course. Give me another month and I believe I'll be able to take anyone on.
ShadowstormXIII @ Aug 2nd 2008 7:05AM
Ok...let's just say the guy is telling the truth...and there "is not plans for including vader/yoda in cross-platform versions".
So somebody the explain to me what the blank spot next to The Apprentice is used for AND the fact that everytime I turn the game on it makes a startup check for 'downloaded content.'.................
Snowblind @ Aug 2nd 2008 7:22AM
Obviously they're just trying to drive sales. If they come out and say they will be available in the future, then there's no point in buying both versions.
And yes, there are people doing that..
aJBc @ Aug 2nd 2008 8:27AM
Well, there IS DLC available...but it's only extra customization pieces and music, not Star Wars related.
I heard the rumor about the Force Unleashed save data thing. It makes sense in a Lucasarts money-shilling kind of way.
Miemie @ Aug 2nd 2008 11:35AM
I live in Japan and both Vader and Yoda are in the game, it's in all the advertising, on the tv commercials at all the game stores.
ScottG13 @ Aug 2nd 2008 12:00PM
Liars are funny. When this comes true, we learned a lesson. This jerk is a liar and can't be trusted.
