Sony delays 'Life with PlayStation' debut

Revealed in June, Life with PlayStation is totally not Sony's answer to the Wii's news and weather channels. Okay, it is. Utilizing data from Google and a spiffy, HD rendering of the earth (think PS3's "earthrise" music visualizer) the downloadable app displays real-time weather and news headlines. It's also been delayed.

SCEA president Jack Tretton spoke about Life with PlayStation's imminent release at the company's pre-E3 media briefing last month. The way we understood it, the app would go live quite soon-ish. Now comes word from SCEA's senior R&D manager, Noam Rimon, that it will actually arrive in August. Hey, that's this month! Why the delay? Rimon cites "a few procedural matters" as the hold-up. (Translation: the R&D group was having too much fun spinning the virtual globe. Whee.)

You can sort of half way do that with F@H. There's a setting that allows you to have it auto-start after so many minutes idle.

Well, the most delayed games are still on the 360: Too Human, Splinter Cell 5 and Alan Wake. And its probably better to delay than release a half-finished title like Gears

Splinter Cell 5 hasn't been delayed all that much, it was supposed to come this year, now it's coming next, that isn't all that unusual. Besides, it's Ubisoft, not Microsoft.

And considering Too Human was original a PSOne game before being completely put on hold, until it was recently re-developed for the 360, I don't think that really counts either.

Uh, snowblind it was originally set top come out last fall, they pushed it back to this fall, and now they pushed it back to this spring, and my guess is they'll push it back to next fall once we get near November

Do we actually know anything about this thing other than the screenshot and that it does news and weather? If they really wanted to make this thing awesome, they'd let us add our own RSS feeds to 'news globe' or whatever.

To help save Weblogs, Inc. some money, this article should be saved and then reused next month when Sony announces another delay til September.

Unfortunately, a new article would still have to be written when Sony announces that they've canceled the project.

what was it exactly, the weather? it sounds cool and all but i have a web browser on the ps3. i also have weather in my cable menu and a whole tv channel for my area. i read through the EULA most times when i update and saw that it says they may drop features etc. i just want the ability to rewind or fast forward audio without having to quit the browser.
