An altogether new Call of Duty planned for 2009
It appears that Activision is wasting no time with their bestselling FPS franchise Call of Duty -- though we're still a couple of months from receiving the Sutherland-infused Call of Duty: World at War, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick recently announced that his company is planning on releasing yet another Call of Duty title sometime in 2009. In equally unsurprising news, gas is still expensive, flan is still delicious, and the sun is planning on rising tomorrow morning.
Kotick remarked that the series would continue its "leapfrog" pattern between developers, making it fairly safe to assume that Infinity Ward, creators of Call of Duty 4, will take the reigns for the next wartime title. Last we heard, Infinity Ward was working on a sci-fi shooter -- could the next Call of Duty unceremoniously swap M4 Carbines for Plasma Rifles? We'll surely find out more about the next next installment as we inch closer to the first next installment this October.

I'd be happy with a Sci-Fi COD game from Infinity Ward
t_m @ Aug 2nd 2008 9:29PM
From careful study of the internet I've determinted that everyone would be happy with a Paper Plane Throwing game if it was Made By Infinity Ward. ;-)
syrik zero @ Aug 2nd 2008 10:48PM
I am with you haha
Mr.ESC @ Aug 3rd 2008 12:16AM
There was a game long long time ago for the PC that was about paper planes. You could play with one and then print the instructions to create one.
I was 6 back then and I thought it was cool.
Now that an IW game with Toy soldiers and papercrafts would be awesome.
Obie @ Aug 3rd 2008 12:54AM
Agreed, I wanna have their babies.
J.Goodwin @ Aug 2nd 2008 9:12PM
The worst thing about Activision is that they have absolutely no shame. They could at least wait for the corpse to cool on their current installment before announcing the next sequel, even if we all know it's coming.

NEWS UPDATE: New Madden game next year!
CoD has turned into that kind of franchise, where you can expect a new one every year. It doesn't really suprise me.
J.Goodwin @ Aug 2nd 2008 10:03PM
At least EA has the self respect not to tell us that Madden 2009 will definitely positively have 60 frames per second on the PS3 before Madden 2008 hits the shelves though.

Okay, I just have to say that the wii can not offer the level of complexity that PCs and consoles to some extent can offer. Both graphically and control wise. The games that are out for the wii can hardly be considered "hardcore" at least in the FPS genre.
Flame on.
The Fatass of Kickassness @ Aug 2nd 2008 10:01PM
Aww, look at him, thinking he has a point to make.
You know, I would have considered your subdued sarcasm clever and witty a week ago when you were posting it in threads that actually, you know, had something to DO with Nintendo, but at this point all you're good for is banhammer fodder. You're the worst kind of troll - as Samfish said in another thread, there's a difference between bitching about someone and bitching about bitching about someone. That said, I'm not bitching about you bitching, I'm bitching about the fact that you're getting annoying, that you're posting your shit in threads that don't need the clutter that stems from your stupidity.
I will say this one more time for possible penetration. Nintendo made a mistake. People reacted accordingly. You, in all your wisdom, didn't actually rebut what anyone said, but instead opted to go the stupid route - whining and bitching without providing reasons as to why you think everyone is wrong and you're right. You're the worst kind of fanboy, and I wish the Joystiq mods would do something about you already. You're worse than all the Curmeos, Jacks of No Trades, Summercamps, Shaggis, and other assorted trolls of this site, simply because they actually argue their points, whereas you just post your filth, hoping to get attention or something.
The Fatass of Kickassness @ Aug 2nd 2008 10:05PM
From this point on, I refuse to respond or acknowledge this poster's existence. I recommend that those who already haven't do the same.
The Fatass of Kickassness @ Aug 2nd 2008 10:11PM
Issac, that's idiotic. The Wii is certainly capable of playing hardcore games, as is every game system ever made. You're telling me that there isn't a single game system out there capable of playing hardcore games besides modern PCs, the Xbox 360, and the PS3?
You needs to play some God Hand.
4MyFriends @ Aug 2nd 2008 10:21PM
"From this point on, I refuse to respond or acknowledge this poster's existence. I recommend that those who already haven't do the same."
Cry the fuck more, I'm sure you'll be one of the first to respond to my next comment.

"Samfish said in another thread, there's a difference between bitching about someone and bitching about bitching about someone."
Actually, that was Saria.

But I agree with the sentiment.
Also, there are entirely too many um...that show. With the robits. Entirely too many versions of that avatar on Joystiq! I'm starting to get confused!
samfish @ Aug 2nd 2008 10:32PM
Also also, God Hand is the best game ever!

OH NOES THEY LABLED ME CASUAL WHEN I"M RAELLY HARDCORE WAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!! HOW WILL MY FREINDS JUDGE ME WHEN THEY FIND OUT I ONLY HAVE A WII WAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
The Fatass of Kickassness @ Aug 2nd 2008 10:39PM
"Also also, God Hand is the best game ever!"
i no rite? One of the funnier things about that game is the fact that it's my favorite ammunition to use whenever people bring up the idea that 3rd party games can't sell on the Wii. I mean, that game was pretty well hyped and publicized, and was a better product than No More Heroes in the end, a true gamer's game, made on the highest selling console ever to grace store shelves... that sold a total of 70,000 units compared to NMH's several hundred thousand.
Gah, here I am, going off on a tangent. Yeah, that game was awesome. If I get the money, I'll def. be putting it down for Bayonetta and Mad World.
EliteBeatsAgent08 @ Aug 2nd 2008 10:39PM
You guys wouldn't care so much if there wasn't a bit of truth to what he was saying...
So what you didn't give a crap about Nintendo's E3. Since when did Joystiq and its commentators become the be all end all for opinions and the final say on what's COOL in gaming and what's unforgivable...?
Sorry but 4MyFriends is clearly pointing out how ridiculous all the bitching you guys and JOYSTIQ do on a DAILY BASIS when it comes to Nintendo and causal gaming.
It's like mass hysteria has taken over the internet. And Nintendo is apparently the cause....
The Fatass of Kickassness @ Aug 2nd 2008 10:51PM
"You guys wouldn't care so much if there wasn't a bit of truth to what he was saying..."
Same could be said about... uh... that guy and his reactions.
"So what you didn't give a crap about Nintendo's E3. Since when did Joystiq and its commentators become the be all end all for opinions and the final say on what's COOL in gaming and what's unforgivable...?"
We didn't. I'll say again, though - the fact of the matter is that all he's doing at this point is posting the same sarcasm randomly. That, right there, is exactly what we yell at other posters like Curmeo and Jack of No Trades about, and the difference between him and the rest of us is that while we were posting our opinions (and defending them at that, something you should check out in our post histories), all he's been doing as of late has been posting the same stupid sarcasm in places that don't even pertain to Nintendo (such as, um, this thread). He's just being an annoying troll at this point, and that's hard to argue.
"Sorry but 4MyFriends is clearly pointing out how ridiculous all the bitching you guys and JOYSTIQ do on a DAILY BASIS when it comes to Nintendo and causal gaming."
We post it when we feel it necessary and argue it when it's not. Once again, check our post histories (mine is a good example of this) - I defend Nintendo when people try to say things that aren't true, but I've said a few times before that Nintendo had done a pretty shitty job at E3. So what? He's acting as though we all rally together and post that in every thread, when WE DON'T. He knows it, but at the same time he doesn't have a problem with posting HIS stupidity in every last thread. The only people with his kind of post history as of late are trolls.
You see what I'm saying? It's easy to want to defend him without prior knowledge of the shit he's pulled. He's whined and bitched about the rest of our opinions, yet seemingly never offered anything up of his own other than aforementioned whining, bitching, and out of place trolling. I mean, going into a CoD or Parasite Eve post and posting this kind of shit? Defend that.
EliteBeatsAgent08 @ Aug 2nd 2008 11:15PM
@ Fatass
Maybe you're an exception to the rule but it seems pretty obvious to me that most posters and the Joystiq staff themselves feel it necessary to attack Nintendo at every oppurtunity.
I guess I just find him to be absoultely hilarious to be honest. If you don't like his comments then don't read them.
All this downvoting stuff doesn't make his point or opinion any less valid.
tmacairjordan87 @ Aug 2nd 2008 11:20PM
It's hilarious watching 4myfriends go off the deep end, specially when he started out as a somewhat reasonable nintendo fanboy. I'd like to take partial credit for driving him insane, but I couldn't have done it without the help of the joystiq community and of course nintendo themselves.
I say Nintendo because it appears like their conference was the straw that finally broke him, because he constantly brings it up even in articles that have nothing to do about the wii and no one is talking about the wii. See what you helped do to one of your own Nintendo?
His recent comments are also hilariously ironic because he has become the fanboy he mocks in his comments by bringing up the anti-wii fanboy....sarcastic fanboy comment. You truly are something else 4myfriends.
The Fatass of Kickassness @ Aug 2nd 2008 11:28PM
"Maybe you're an exception to the rule but it seems pretty obvious to me that most posters and the Joystiq staff themselves feel it necessary to attack Nintendo at every oppurtunity."
I don't see it!
Well, I mean, I have been seeing a lot of Nintendo bashing lately, but, well, come on. People had a reason to complain. Nintendo claimed that their key franchises would be maximized, that gamers would be very happy about their E3 showing... and they devoted their entire conference to three games, with a few very slight mentions here and there. At the end, Reggie said the unbelievable ("How could gamers be disappointed at Animal Crossing, AND GTA!?), and shit just made no sense. It was though Nintendo had become disconnected from the core gamer audience, something I'd still believe had the head honcho not issued an apology.
Basically, what I'm trying to say is that a lot of us haven't been attacking Nintendo for the hell of it - we'd bring it up at an appropriate time, and say what needed to be said (once again, the only ones who weren't were people like Curmeo), and leave it at that.
His reaction? Tell people they're wrong but don't actually, you know, debunk what they're saying. Rip on people. TROLL. His last few comments have been in threads completely unrelated to Nintendo. That's undefendable.
"I guess I just find him to be absoultely hilarious to be honest. If you don't like his comments then don't read them."
That's kinda hard to do when he's posting them in threads he has no business posting them in. Remind me how this article has anything to do with Nintendo again? Oh wait, it doesn't - he simply mentioned Nintendo so he could troll, something we would have fucked with any other troll for doing.
"All this downvoting stuff doesn't make his point or opinion any less valid."
What point? I fail to see his point, and he has yet to post a cohesive one. He just keeps posting the same tired schtick over and over again. Only difference between him and someone like Curmeo is that I've heard rebuttals from Curmeo when I reply to him. Rebuttals that actually impart some insight as to his line of thought. Not mindless bashing or sarcasm with no explanation as to why it's happening.

mr mobius @ Aug 3rd 2008 12:42AM
Enjoy your bland FPS. I'll stick with Metroid Prime 3 for that sort of stuff (the FPS part, not the bland part, Metroid is quite colourful when it wants to be), and I'll enjoy Super Mario Galaxy and Okami which are colourful enough to cause partial blindness (I actually strive to beat areas of Okami just for the rejuvenation scenes).
The Fatass of Kickassness @ Aug 3rd 2008 1:20AM
Uh, Mobius, just in case that was directed towards me... I've beaten each and every one of those games you just listed in their entirety. In fact, went and beat MP3 over again on HyperMode and have 2 242-star Mario Galaxy files.
Haggard @ Aug 3rd 2008 12:15PM
@Mobius
CoD4 may be a little generic (awesome nontheless) but having Metroid on the Wii does not mean that innovative and superb FPSes do not exist on PC, PS3 and 360 (take a look at the Orange Box, Left 4 Dead and Far Cry 2). Can you name a single other great FPS on the Wii?
Waqman @ Aug 2nd 2008 9:50PM
As long as Infinity Ward is making it then it should be good. But still, I despise Activision. Its clear that they have become the real "EA". Are they even publishing any original titles this year???
d1srupt0r @ Aug 2nd 2008 10:04PM

I had muffins for dinner, awesome.
I still have some room for flan though.
mr mobius @ Aug 3rd 2008 12:40AM

Oh, and just to let Joystiq know, America has cheap fuel compared to the UK (and we're actually starting to lower the price just ever so little).

I'm not into strategy games. Does that mean the Civilization series sucks, Dovi?
DangerMouse @ Aug 2nd 2008 10:26PM
I hated the first one. It took me a good while to decide to give 4 a chance. It was good for the first play through, but i haven't had any interest running back through the single player game.
Dovi @ Aug 2nd 2008 10:29PM
No but it could be why he thinks the series sucks...
Or maybe he's just to indie for popular franchises...
The Fatass of Kickassness @ Aug 2nd 2008 10:30PM
"single player campaign"
There's your problem right there. All the reviews, everyone who's played it, yadda yadda, they've all said that the reason the game is truly great is because of the Multiplayer (and the first campaign playthrough... the whole nuke thing was pretty damn cool).
DangerMouse @ Aug 2nd 2008 11:36PM
I consider mutliplayer to a bonus. I will give them credit, it's very well done, but multiplayer has to grab my attention to the fullest, otherwise i can't be bother wasting time with it. I did spend a good deal of time with it, so it wasn't a complete waste, but the single player could've been better.

Dragod @ Aug 3rd 2008 3:07AM
-No real strategies needed.
-Either the guns are too powerful or there isn't enough health.
-Full automatic guns are more accurate than Sniper Rifles.
-Everyone eventually ranks up. No skill needed, just dedication.
-Open chat channels get VERY annoying. Push-to-talk is annoying, but it's really a blessing in disguise.
-Shooting at feet is just as effective as shooting at the head, or is nearly as effective.
-The Maps are practically made for camping.
-You start with the only weapon you need.
-With no power weapons to have to go fight for, you can just camp with no fear of losing that weapon.
-You are rewarded for playing longer, rather than by skill.
-One player can carry an entire team.
-Airstrikes - LOL.
-Helicopters - ROFL.
-Perks - ROFLCOPTER.
-Map Packs take forever to come out, even with direct ports.
-There is no real skill gap. Everyone is basically good at the game because you only need to shoot in a person's general direction.
-LAN is a joke; no custom classes.
-No separation in levels... 55s in 8th prestige can be matched up with 4s with no prestige.
-Copied Double Exp weekends from Halo 3.
-All of the 11 year old "Halo Kids" have become "CoD Kids".
-"Vote to Skip" idea taken from Halo 3.
-Infinity Ward's connection with its community is almost non-existent.
-Meta game stolen from Halo 3. (a few weeks after Bungie announces Halo 3 Meta Campaign, IW puts out a video of some lame Meta game that is supposed to wow us?)
If I wanted to stay up all night, I could list every little thing wrong with CoD4, but I'd rather not. Not saying Call of Duty was a bad attempt at a game, but it was nothing but a competitor to Halo. But yes, CoD4 sucks. I play CoD2 more than I play CoD4.

"No but it could be why he thinks the series sucks...

Pretty off topic, but I'm a very big fan of anything indie, yet still enjoy popular things. I've noticed a trend of people calling out indie as being something negative or pretentious, if you will. I feel this is a movement that needs to be stopped. I am offended by these accusations of the indie culture. Trust me, to be indie is in no way pretentious. To pigeon hole an entire subculture is, however. Thank you for your time. /rant
Dovi @ Aug 3rd 2008 11:50AM
just because not every indie fan is pretentious doesn't mean the aren't some who are...
