It appears that Activision is wasting no time with their bestselling FPS franchise Call of Duty -- though we're still a couple of months from receiving the Sutherland-infused Call of Duty: World at War, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick recently announced that his company is planning on releasing yet another Call of Duty title sometime in 2009. In equally unsurprising news, gas is still expensive, flan is still delicious, and the sun is planning on rising tomorrow morning.
Kotick remarked that the series would continue its "leapfrog" pattern between developers, making it fairly safe to assume that Infinity Ward, creators of Call of Duty 4, will take the reigns for the next wartime title. Last we heard, Infinity Ward was working on a sci-fi shooter -- could the next Call of Duty unceremoniously swap M4 Carbines for Plasma Rifles? We'll surely find out more about the next next installment as we inch closer to the first next installment this October.

I just hope Infinity Ward follows Treyarch's current approach with regards to Wii development, since W@W is looking pretty damn good on Wii

From what I've seen, yeah, it is looking pretty nice. Infinity Ward probably won't develop anything on the Wii, though, which'll make me a sad panda indeed...

Watch out for that imaginary recoil.
Well it looks nice but I don’t feel especially attracted to it; if it’s good I’ll give it a chance, if it’s bad eff it.
To be honest I would like something like another no more heroes for the Wii but with more attention to the detail especially when it comes to exploring the city. It all looked like boxes, it needed more stuff inside not to make it more realistic but less bland.

So do we think Activision will drive COD or Guitar Hero into the ground faster?
I'm going with Guitar Hero.

What if World at War is delayed to 2009, like so many places have
guessed (EGM, Giant Bomb)? Does this mean we'll get two Call of Duty
games in 2009?

Another redundant shooter? Have developers exhausted the well of ideas only two years into this generation. At this rate we might as well mark this down as the worst generation, the "Baby Boomers" of the 50s; we have Nintendo and their complete disregard for their heritage; we have an underperforming Sony machine which is more a movie device than a games machine, at the moment; and we have the biggest failure of them all, the 360, pumping out turgid regurgitation on a constant basis.
This cacophony of mediocrity leads me to believe that at this point, in 2008, this is the point when gaming truly became mainstream, and as such, without worth. Not because it is now a mainstream pursuit, I won't be so fatuous (no here, anyway), but because, like Hollywood or mainstream tv, safety, blandness, and regurgitation is going to be the norm. Activision and the COD series is just the beginning, it will get a whole lot worse from here on.
And it's not me, I'm not jaded one. I enjoy games very much, my posts on DS/PSPfanboy are testament to that. But all the home consoles are a disappointment, the greatest disappointment. People don't like this gen because it's boring. Last gen, we got DMC, and that redefined action games; Burnout redefined arcade racing; Metroid Prime showed us that a shooter could be more than just a shooter; Ninja Gaiden took what DMC did and polished it to a mirror-like sheen; RE4 made Resident Evil exciting again. All amazing. Last gen was all about moving forward.
Now let's look at today, shall we? Mediocre DMC and Metroid Prime; what the hell happened to Ninja Gaiden? Our polished gem became a bland walnut, so lacking in heart, spirit, no nothing; and RE4, I mean RE5, it's hard to tell with all the identical animations, has gone all Klu Klux to stay relevant. An interesting move.
This gen is mediocre and at worst a crime, especially when compared to last gen it looks terrible. It's the same old noise with a hi-def coat, or in the Wii's case a SD-coat. It's sad that so many people have fallen for the veil of beautiful graphics, it really is. Because underneath the veil is a terrible secret. Shall I tell you what it is? All these games now are no different to Dreamcast games and these faceless corporations are hoodwinking us of our Euros and Dollars. This gen is a fallacy. There are no more quantum leaps. No more redefinition. No more ingenuity. No more heroes. Just staleness.

I just can't take you seriously any more.
Claiming Brawl is the best fighter since MvsC? Claiming MP3 was the worst in the series? I know people can have differing opinions but yours just plain make no sense to me, and while this generation hasn't been the best, you're claiming that we haven't seen any gameplay advancements in the transition from the last generation to this one, which only means that you haven't played many of this generation's games.

Announcing the next-next CoD before the next one is even out? If CoD is to become a Madden-like franchise, why should I buy any of them? Will CoD 2009 differ that much from CoD 2008? What about CoD 2010?
This info actually makes me lose interest in CoD: World at War. Good job there, Activision.

Here is my prayer:
They take the engine and basic gameplay from COD 4 and make it a science-fiction shooter.
The science-fiction aspect will allow for MUCH crazier perks and weapon add-ons, which I think will be fun. Different movement speeds, health-regen rates, etc. And IW can balance it well.

This is depressing. There is a deluge of generic games geared towards 18-34 boys, I really cant tell them apart anymore. I used to like them, but now the market is flooded with them..They are all starting to blur together.
I'm not the only one who sees this am I?

Well since we're throwing baseless generic stereotypes out there...
All of what you said is coming from someone who's a known fan of a system that 99% of it's games are geared, or appear to be geared toward the 8-12 crowd. They're not blurring together for you too are they?

This is some sad shit. We don't NEED a Call of Duty every year. Hell,we don't need a new installment from ANY franchise every year. The fact that they already announced one for 2009 when the new one isnt even out yet is pathetic.
Then again,it's Activision, they plan on releasing 4 Guitar Hero games this year alone.
Yet,idiots will still buy the games. Disgusting.

"What's disgusting is that shit on your face."
That doesn't even make any sense considering you don't know what I look like.
Keep trying though.

Dragod, seriously, you think CoD4 stole from Halo? halo sucks really bad, and they used some of the same features because even though the game was bad, the options and the setup were good. also... i'm not so sure I would buy a futuristic CoD, mostly because they can't judge accuracy, ammo, rate of fire etc from a real gun, they just have to come up with them out of nowhere, which also means that there will probably be one REALLY amazing gun that everyone pwns with and then every other gun is pretty mediocre...
