When gaming journalists first got their grubby mitts on the Wii, they reported that one of the tech demos involved maneuvering an airplane through the sky. Instead of using the nunchuk's analog stick, players held the Wiimote as if it were a toy airplane. This allowed for great precision in turning and diving. While a few flight simulators have been released for the Wii, none have used this concept in depth. It might not be perfect for air-combat based games, but would work incredibly well for stunt-oriented flying.
Oh heck, I may as well just come out and say it: we need Pilotwings Wii. In addition to the light plane style of gameplay, the "toy airplane" control method could also work well for the sky diving missions. Additionally, the Wiimote could be held sideways and tilted to control the paragliding and rocket belt activities. The unique controls of the Wii seem like the perfect outlet for recreating the exhilarating feel of open 3D space many gamers experienced during that first Pilotwings sky-diving mission. Get on it, Nintendo! (After you've finished the New Super Mario Bros sequel, of course.)
