Free Battlefield: Bad Company Conquest mode hits Thursday

For a game that received so much attention early on due to its controversial weapons microtransaction scheme, it's interesting to note that the first major gameplay update to Battlefield: Bad Company is going to be absolutely free. (Well, you do of course need to buy the game before said update makes any sense.)

EA and BF:BC dev DICE have prepped a new multiplayer mode, Conquest, for deployment on Thursday (that's August 7 for the calendar-conscious). The match type actually originated in DICE's breakout hit, Battlefield 1942, and its exclusion from Bad Company came much to the chagrin of long-time series devotees. Well, now it's back, and playable on all BC maps that support the Gold Rush game mode. The update will hit the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Store simultaneously, so you're set for a a weekend of Conquest no matter which version you own.

Also of note, DICE said that weather effects will be involved to some degree.

Although Im ranked at like 30000 on the PS3 version.... I hear that the 360 version to even get in the 50000 area you have to max out nearly everything.

When I hit level 25 with a TrueSkill Rating of 2 about 3 weeks ago, I was ranked number 65,000... there were alot of boosters early on though.

What do you mean by max everything out?? Rank up?? Of course you do. Especially considering most of the guys playing who are in the 100s have more then a week in game so it's natural to be ranked up by then. Even I play every other day for a 2 or so hours since launch and I'm near 2500.

Hell yes. I played Gold Rush obsessively for over two weeks then suddenly quit out of boredom. Conquest is going to add many more sleepless nights to my schedule.

That game is pretty good, almost as good as TF2 but this gen graphics make it quite frustrating.

You have to distinguish little blue/grey/green/brown dots in a grey/green/brown environment. Still is an awesome game, I recommend it.

Totally agree on the graphics issue. I find it pretty difficult at times as well. I'd be lying if it hasn't caused a few team kills on my behalf. But I guess that is just indicative of the times and in a way is more realistic than the BLU vs RED business.

I like the graphics, it makes it seem more real to me.
being able to actually hide in a bush is cool.

This is the only game since Shadowrun's release that has pulled me away from Shadowrun for any length of time. Happy to hear we are getting the classic gametype finally. The game is quite awesome, and even if you don't enjoy this sort of game you could at least appreciate the great technical feat they pulled off with their game engine, from sound, field of depth, terrain deformation, environmental destruction, incredible explosions, innovative sound, high resolution textures on all character models/many objects, to simply the ability to have so much happening on screen with no framerate hiccups. Plus, how could one not like a game with such classy music.

Enough praise for now, I'll criticize the game some as soon as I get back from playing.

Actually only 4 maps are capable of playing conquest:
Harvest Day
Oasis
End of the line
Ascension

Sad that this game didn't even ship with what is an integral game-type of the Battlefield PC experience since BF:1942 in 2002.

I think it might have had more to do with the developers. EA's been pretty cool lately. Activision are the new a-holes.

Umm. TDM is not what Battlefield is about at ALL. Not to mention it would be a unbalanced mess with all the vehicles, emplacements, and snipers. Sorry to say this but go play CoD 4 if you want TDM.

Also to Randy, the new Conquest MODE does NOT work on the Gold Rush maps. DICE is releasing 4 new reworked maps to be used specifically for Conquest mode since the current one's made in unbalanced.

there are four goldrush maps that work with the new conquest mode otherwise there would be no maps to play..... there are four maps coming out this october acta non verba, par for the course, ghost town and i cnt remember what the other 1 is called but its been posted on the official battlefield bad company website under news.

to tez... it is actually EAs fault. the DICE team was trying to delay the release of the game another 4 months to add different features and more maps, but EA is famous for rushing releases and requiring devs to send out patch after patch trying to fix crap they tried to fix b4 release.

Anyone know when this comes out? It's Thursday, August 7th and I don't see it anywhere. As a matter of fact, no one has even talked about it in the past couple of days. it's like everyone went silent about it. Any news on this Conquest mode DLC... anyone?
