It'd be worth buying a refurbished PS2 just for Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.

No joke.

I will second that.

I currently own no games for the PS2 other than Ico and Shadows. I may need to bust out the ol' black beauty for these gems soon.

Third!

If you missed out on these games then I recommend you get a PS2 to play them. In fact, I think your missing out on two of the most original adventure games ever made. Not to mention a whole lot of other awesome PS2 games. Missing out on the PS2 is almost like missing out on SNES.

Sorry, but their games are far from overrated, actually, I would say that they are underrated and often overlooked.

Not all fanboys have them on their must-have lists, and from those that do, not all have played their games, and even then, the number of people that actually understood the games are even less.

I like the Team Ico games, but they tend to have lousy gameplay mechanics, which keeps me from getting REALLY excited about their games they way I do Nintendo's or Platinum's.

You keep saying that about every Sony game that gets announced. It eventually gets to a point where this "wait until" garbage isn't even trolling anymore because you've said that about so many games. It, in fact, just makes you look that much dumber and you did it all by yourself. I'm so proud of you!

Also, it's nice to have something to look forward to. Wii owners would like to be in that position right now.

I don't think they're as great as a lot of people seem to believe. When that image there was released, one guy on a forum I go to was about to cream himself. It's a freaking Colossus' buttplug. The other two games aren't so great that the slightest bit of 'information' is enough to warrant a crazy reaction.

Still bitter about that huh John McShitty?

It's hilarious how you ignore the fact I've NEVER said Final Fantasy was overrated. I've expressed nothing but interest in the title since it was announced for the psTRIPLE way back when.

Sorry but your argument is a lie (like most of your statements).

I've said from the beginnin that FFXIII and God of War 3 were the ONLY 2 games that could make me consider getting a ps3.

Well thankfully FFXIII is NOT a ps3 exclusive anymroe so that drops the must have list on the ps3 to a pathetic 1.

Really late on the reply here, but it was past my bedtime already!

Shadow of the Colossus was conceptually strong, but was mired with such brutal control and camera issues (I have to hold a button to hang on a ledge?) that it never managed to be particularly fun. There was one jump, I think before the third boss (it was the guy on a platform above a lake) that I tried about 10 times, having to swim for 2 minutes every time I missed it to get back into position. The empty world had a great sense of scale, but it was an empty world. The Colossi were visually impressive, but when it came down to climbing them, they weren't in practice anything more than a Mario stage, and factoring in the poor control, frustration was all that was left. In general, the designers had a good idea, but never thought it through and remembered that what they were making was a game.

Ico. I'll never understand this one. What's truly so great about Ico, where does its acclaim come from? It's an action-adventure game with the most basic combat, the most basic puzzles, and again, lackluster control. And as for the much vaunted emotional nature of the 'story', it was too terribly saccharine due to its lack of actual character development.

I honestly played both of these games from beginning to end, because I typically love cult-classics and critically acclaimed games (like Odin Sphere or Disgaea), but Team Ico is the classic case of style over substance. Unique does not by nature mean good.

Team ICO made the worst games ever in the industry and caused the downfall of the PS2. Basically they took ET and ported it to the PS2 twice, with all new glitches and a pathetic 10 fps framerate. They epitomize all the evil in the world and their games promote racism and were designed by Hitler himself. Their games are like poison for systems. The games also kill kittens... orphan kittens... orphan kittens with aids.

TEAM ICO SHOULD BE BANNED FROM THE WORLD. THEY ARE POLLUTING THE EARTH.

Shadow of the Colossus had much more advertising than Ico and it was successful. It was first in its debut week in Japan selling over 100,000 copies.

Again this time Sony will advertise it, so it should be fine.

Do we know that it's a PS3 game? What if it's a PSP game.. they have experience with the PS2 which is essentially a home PSP, graphically.

I can't find ICO anywhere now, I rented it ages ago from some little rental store then I never had it again :( I should have just kept it, SOTC practically lives in my PS2.

YAY! another half-playable piece of art.
did some member of the team leave after they developed Ico because Shadow just didn't have the feel that Ico did Ico told a story without words Shadow just seemed they forgot to add the words.

I liked Ico, Shadow was too busy trying to be profound to care about actual gameplay.

So yeah I just didn't 'get it' sure, that's it I'm an idiot and everyone who doesn't like your 'precious' Shadow is too.

It is just about preference. I do not think someone could play this game now can and come away with the same feeling as when it was released. Mind you I am not saying that is the case in your situation.

I liked the game. I thought ICO was better but that was because of how unique and revolutionary it was at the time. I still thought SOTC was one of the best PS2 games ever made. It was essentially 16 (give or take a few) boss fights. If the game was anything it was certainly epic in scale.

it is OK not to like it.

Actually, I felt more connected with Shadow of the Colossus.

SotC brought these feelings of loneliness and sacrifice, one man that despite knowing that he would have to pay for it, fought this immense enemies just to bring back to life his beloved one, and hell, I felt connected at a lesser extent to Agro, but after what he does, I actually felt really sad, this being that was really important and that I hadn't paid much attention to had done such a thing for you....

Anyway, As for story goes, actually, SotC has more of a story than ICO, actually, they have a good summary on wikipedia
