Aside from spontaneous automobile theft and an abundance of paper lanterns, we really don't know what we can expect to find in Rockstar's DS downsizing of its infamous crime caper, Grand Theft Auto. If an alleged survey sent in to UGO's Games Blog is to be believed -- and let's be clear, this "if" is large enough to trample just about any virtual metropolis -- Chinatown Wars will have plenty of features to clutter up the back of its tiny box.
An open world with changing weather and traffic patterns? Check. A "mature" storyline featuring a "young gang soldier involved in the internal power struggle for control of his gang?" Check. Multiplayer modes, 70+ missions and stylus-based minigames, "such as assembling a sniper rifle?" Check. Truthfulness of survey and its claim that said features are connected to Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars? We'll have to check on that. But purely out of interest, does this sound like a portable GTA you'd want to play?
[Thanks, Kareem]

Yes, because if there is anything Grand Theft Auto is known for, it's the series' incredibly detailed visuals.

No, but they were a lot better on 360/ps3 and even the psp games looked almost like the ps2 games. Seeing as the ds isn't as powerful as the psp we're looking at a very drastic downgrade. Who wants to play a 30 hour game when it looks abysmal?

Thats exactly what I am hoping for. If it is fully 3D I can imagine it would have a slow frame rate or be horribly short, a lose, lose situation.

Your logic is so flawed it makes me vomit. DS is as powerful as the N64, yet you claim noone would want to finish a 30hr DS game because of the graphics. I guess you're right, which is why GTAIV is still on top of Ocarina of Time at Gamerankings.....oh wait

At least I didn't pull my logic out of my ass like you apparently did with yours. I didn't know that a single new review was written on OOT in the last 10 years. Guess what? Those were top of the line graphics 10 years ago.
Also, it's impossible to compare metacritic rankings between now and 10 years ago. Look at the number of reviews OOT got and GTA 4 got and you'll see why it's impossible.

Considering it's slated to release this winter, I'm surprised we don't know more
I think there pretty much has to be some sort of big press conference between now and then, from Nintendo at least, because E3 left quite a bit unanswered (and that's disregarding the whole "broken promises" thing)

It'll be delayed. Something stinks about this whole thing.
There is literally NOTHING shown of it and it's coming out in like 3 months. Nintendo themselves admitted that they hadn't even seen it and Take2 didn't bother showing it at their press conference.
The whole things reeks of a last minute add to the E3 presentation, if you ask me.

So could this mean that they are going to place GTA on the Wii as well? Because if they do I always wanted to blow the cuteness off of some of my mii's.

It was hinted at that Ninty wants it to happen "as long as it's not a port" and instead built from the ground up.

The DS cant handle the GTA I want to play. It will either be 2d again or have an extremely bad 3d world, which is the last thing I want. I really hated the 2d GTA's, which is likely what this one will be.

I'm not interested in playing any GTA, portable or not, but PSP sales of the "stories" games proved that I don't particularly count.

Apparently they had to take it down because it was a result of a broken NDA. Which means the info was real. Did anyone catch it?

If i recall back in the late 90s rockstar was working on GTA usa for the n64 and it was a full 3d not 2d compared to gta I and II on the ps1. GTA usa was canned for the development of GTA III which was in development for the sega dreamcast which was later moved to the ps2. I hope gta chinatown wars is in 3d but with a decent framerate. I bet there is very little voice dialouge with predistrians.

I think everyones being a bit unfair here.
The topdown versions are classic. they're refreshing becuase of the 2d game play and topdown view.
but Also fail to see how a DS wouls cope with a game like gta in 3D.
so i think we can safely say itll be top down, with the stylus to shoo, in the same way that GTA LONDON used the joystick.
eitherway, its gta on the move
WHAT MORE COULD YOU ASK FOR?

a psp?, surely that counts as on the move and thats already been done, liberty city stories was amazing imo, i'm going to reserve judgement on the ds version until i get my hands on it.
(which i most probably will). im very intrigued at the moment, but also very skeptical.
