I would agree with your thoughts, after ignoring the fact this is a preorder bonus not an LE, if the items were things that had impact on a game, like a gun or level. You wouldn't really be missing out on anything with something so minimal as a character skin though.

It may not be an actual collectors edition, but it's still extra content, even though it's trivial, it's still annoying to miss out on things like that, just because you may not be able to afford the game at time of release.

It annoyed me to no end with Jade Empire, where you could only get two of the playable characters by pre-ordering.

I think that every Sony fanboy knows that this game is casual. Sony has always been very good at catering to the hardcore and casual audience.

But Nintendo isn't allowed to do it. When they make casual games everyone flips the fuck out. And before the next person says that they don't make any hardcore games Galaxy, Brawl, and Corruption say hi!

i have a Wii and PS3 and i can certainly see that the Wii gets way more shovelware and mini-game compilations than the PS3. but in all actuality, when has Nintendo ever had a steady flow of hardcore games? it's always play this big Mario title, wait, play this Zelda game, wait, try this new Metroid, wait, play this Mario themed sports game, lather, rinse, repeat. and with PS3, they drop all the good games at one time. then i play one at a time and pick them up as i finish the last ones (and as they get cheaper).

everybody has to cater to the casuals, the fact just remains that Nintendo is a little more famous for doing it at the time.

They aren't charging extra for this though, it's free with your preorder.
