Grand Theft Auto IV hitting PC on Nov. 18
So, who's very excited (or surprised) by confirmation that Rockstar's go-anywhere, shoot-anyone crime caper is coming to the PC? Well, the folks at Rockstar, obviously. "We are very excited to be releasing the PC version of Grand Theft Auto IV," said Rockstar Games founder Sam Houser. "The whole team is dedicated to bringing an amazing gaming experience to the PC. The game looks and plays beautifully on PC and we can't wait for people to play it."
People can expect to start playing Grand Theft Auto IV, along with its "newly expanded multiplayer" modes, on November 18th if they live in North America, and November 21st if they live in Europe.

Another game for a Crysis PC - Check!
Ihavepants @ Aug 6th 2008 7:37PM
It's a good thing then that a "Crysis PC" only costs around 900 to build eh.
Danny F. @ Aug 6th 2008 11:27AM
Sweeeeet.. X-D
Neuromancer @ Aug 6th 2008 11:27AM
That's great, now PC gamers can get in the fun of playing something that feels more like having a second job than a game.
Checkpoints, why put those in when you can start the mission over again halfway across town?
The_Punisher @ Aug 6th 2008 11:35AM
Driving is fun, besides if you don't suck it shouldn't take so many drives :)
and BTW, i love GTA
Squirtforce @ Aug 6th 2008 11:35AM
What are you talking about? You can spawn right back to the mission's start if you fail out of it. Are you thinking of GTA3?
arrrgh @ Aug 6th 2008 12:12PM
shhh leave the poor boy alone! he clearly hasnt played gta4 and just wants to be part of the crowd
irrational hate ftw!
Neuromancer @ Aug 6th 2008 12:37PM
Oh no actually I had it on the 360 and beat it. It is a pain in the ass. In any given mission no matter how far you get, when you die you start at the beginning- even if you died all the way across town, where the action really starts.
It's not a horrible game.. Just did not deserve all the 10/10's it got. But if you want to go on "dates" with a handful of computer chicks and take them bowling, this is the game for you.
AoE @ Aug 6th 2008 1:45PM
@Neuromancer, after that last comment, I've gotta ask... does Volition pay well?
Neuromancer @ Aug 6th 2008 1:55PM
Yeah me, Busey and Tera Patrick are very well compensated for our effots.
pasta @ Aug 6th 2008 7:03PM
@Neuromancer,
We already have those. They're called MMORPG's
Haggard @ Aug 9th 2008 9:18PM
I agree with Neuro - the game, like Halo 3 and MGS4, was by no means perfect.
SoulBlade @ Aug 6th 2008 11:29AM
What else do they get?
Lorben @ Aug 6th 2008 11:55AM
Free multiplayer and mods nearly immedailty after release.
rv @ Aug 6th 2008 12:28PM
Even though I have it for 360, I may get it for pc for the mods.
Fanboy @ Aug 6th 2008 10:19PM
@ RV
Agreed
Raikage (GOLDEN Gun Of The Patriots) @ Aug 6th 2008 11:32AM
You know what the best thing about GTA IV is? No not the graphics or variety, or the open world.
It's randomly(or not) running into the road and getting nailed by a car (even better if by accident) I'm not sure why but that never, ever gets old...
Casey @ Aug 6th 2008 11:57AM
The funniest one happened when Niko was out on a date and I hopped over the median barrier in front of the bowling alley only to get nailed hard by a taxi.
Raikage (GOLDEN Gun Of The Patriots) @ Aug 6th 2008 12:01PM
LOL yeah, once I completed one of the missions and I ended up on the freeway, and the cut scene put me out of the car and as soon as it ended, BAM, hit by a car at 70mph, My friend and I were laughing for 10 minutes straight
Evan @ Aug 6th 2008 1:24PM
I remember my favourite "destroyed by a car" moment:
In this huge chase, 4 or 5 stars, car is about to explode so I prepare to bail on a steepish hill. I get out then a swat van pulls up, they get out, I figure it's all over (I'm ammoless), then BOOM!, out of nowhere a random cop car comes flying down the hill, airborne, full speed, and completely creams my attackers. They end up like 75ft away.
That's why IV (or rather all GTA's) are just something special, for the hilarious spontanuity of it all.
samfish @ Aug 6th 2008 11:33AM
This plus the 360 DLC are being timed for award season to try and reverse the massive backlash against the game, I reckon.
ThePassenger @ Aug 6th 2008 11:36AM
Did you not like it Samfish? Please say yes, so that I'm not the only person on earth who felt this was only a good game at best. I've really tried to enjoy it as much as other people seem to have, but ultimately I just gave up on it.
Marty @ Aug 6th 2008 11:37AM
...massive backlash?
samfish @ Aug 6th 2008 11:39AM
I played it for maybe 2 hours all together and I hated it.
...but I hated all the other GTAs, too, so maybe I don't count.
Shagittarius @ Aug 6th 2008 11:59AM
Waggle me a river.
Marty @ Aug 6th 2008 12:13PM
I don't think it was a bad game - just over-hyped by the media. Most games are like that these days, so I don't go into it expecting what I've been promised anymore. Did the same with Halo 3, and I wasn't disappointed.
I guess you can't really expect the media to change though - if Joystiq didn't write 100 articles a day about the same handful of games, they'd only update once or twice a day.
arrrgh @ Aug 6th 2008 12:14PM
+1 for shagi
Blazur @ Aug 6th 2008 12:25PM
Make that +2. Samfish, you're the only person I've ever seen claim they don't enjoy the GTA genre. These games are so full of fun it's bleeding out the box. But hey, to each their own.
Have fun with Wii Music ;)
dark_inchworm @ Aug 6th 2008 1:00PM
Yeah, count me as a member of the MASSIVE BACKLASH. There are SO MANY PEOPLE that HATE GTAIV. What a pile of POOP.
/wtf r u talkin bout
Roto13 @ Aug 6th 2008 3:35PM
I didn't like GTA 3 so there was no reason for me to like GTA 4, either.
Marty @ Aug 6th 2008 11:38AM
I'm going to be tempted to get this, even though I own the 360 version... got to see how it runs on my computer, and all. XD
Monkeys Suck @ Aug 6th 2008 11:44AM
Man, this is an amazing game, and now I can finally play it. Thank you Rockstar! My new computer will love this game.
Alex @ Aug 6th 2008 11:45AM
Yey! I'll probably be getting this for Christmas!
ApolloIV @ Aug 6th 2008 11:52AM
Oh yes, oh yes indeed
Blazur @ Aug 6th 2008 11:56AM
Awwww yeah...Spore and GTA IV for this Winter season!!
Ninjakamster (PS360 FTW!) @ Aug 6th 2008 12:01PM
The BIG question is, will this get the DLC the 360 version will get since obviously Microsoft owns the 360 and Windows?
It looks like this will not be a "Games For Windows" title? I wonder if you'll be able to play online against 360 owners?
deaftly @ Aug 6th 2008 12:06PM
Damn, PC games are more delayed then PS3 games.
Blazur @ Aug 6th 2008 12:16PM
I think this one was intentionally delayed in an effort to propel console sales. We all knew it would inevitably be on the PC, but GTA IV is such a blockbuster title that it likely convinced many gamers to buy a console for it alone.
Ninjakamster (PS360 FTW!) @ Aug 6th 2008 12:18PM
FUCK, thats what happened for me buying a PS3, it breaking and then a 360 for this game. : )
I thought it'd come out for PC later, sometime in 2009, eh.
At least for PC, no more freaking pop-in and also DLC up the ass, all the custom mods, cars, weapons, etc. from the modding community. XD
deaftly @ Aug 6th 2008 12:21PM
Yea I had it for 360 and didn't really play that much so i gave it away to a buddy of mine, I'll "buy" it for PC to give it another shot again. I hardly ever play PC games even though I just got a new one :\
required @ Aug 6th 2008 12:17PM
One thing I noticed the other day was that the handlebars on motorbikes, oddly enough don't move. Not sure why I didn't notice this before, but now it sort of bugs me, I mean they should move shouldn't they?
NeoK-182 @ Aug 6th 2008 12:32PM
it's been like that since Vice City. PC modders have been trying to fix it in both SanAn and VC and no one could figure out how. i think R* just couldn't figure out a way to do it and make it look good and work. once you play so much you just kinda ignore it lol.
NeoK-182 @ Aug 6th 2008 12:31PM
if you go to the GTA IV website it now shows Games For Windows LIVE on it meaning that the PC version is most likely GFW Live so we get free multiplayer obviously and most likely the DLC from the 360 but probably later. though we won't get it for free because once the fall update comes to the 360 they're going to start charging for things like that on the PC as well.
JohnnyRaccoon @ Aug 8th 2008 8:13PM
"though we won't get it for free because once the fall update comes to the 360 they're going to start charging for things like that on the PC as well."
Actually, I don't think they plan on making the multiplayer and matchmaking (which they just made free a couple of weeks ago) a pay service ever again. We will likely have to pay for DLC, just like 360, but we get all of the sweetness of the LIVE service for free 'cuz we are on the PC.
Tom18230 @ Aug 6th 2008 12:46PM
I have this on the xbox but I will buy it for the pc for the mods and *hopefully* better graphics.
GenBanks @ Aug 6th 2008 1:30PM
Even if it's not better graphics it will be better resolution... that's enough for me :D Can't wait to see this at 1920x1200 instead of 700p or whatever.
PrimitiveWallflower @ Aug 6th 2008 1:02PM
I have an Apple IIGS with 64K memory. Will this run? And, if so, will there be a version on 3.5" disks?
HighFiveJesus @ Aug 6th 2008 1:14PM
this is what i like to call my "i told you so dance"
