A lot has changed since Heavy Rain's initial E3 2006 showing. A handful of new screenshots have emerged (via Spilzonen, Ripten) that show the game has moved from the center of the Uncanny Valley to somewhere on the outskirts. If this is the same woman from before, she definitely looks less bony, her eyes not popping out of their respective sockets like before.
To maintain our rain pun quota, we offer you this: There has been a drought of Heavy Rain information for quite some time; we hope this drizzle of screenshots is followed by a downpour of details soon.

She looks like a real person... an everygirl you would see on the street. I suggest you take your eyes off your fapping material and look around and what people in europe look like when they don't have the benefit of airbrush...

The girl they used in the original trailer is actually an actress who's done a couple ALIEVE commercials. The bony face and everything? Thats actually pretty damn close to what she looks like. this was'nt just creating an actress from an inspiring real person, the pretty much just totally 3d scanned her.

Let's take a look at what the "Uncanny Valley" implies shall we. It's the theory that as you approach photo realism with CGI, the brain is always able to detect the subtle differences, and you'll hate the resulting image all the more because your brain is actively rejecting it as an imitation (yes, I know the theory predates CGI and was meant for robots etc, but for our purposes it means CGI). So the more life like a rendering looks, the more your brain says "NOT REAL!" and the worse the image looks to you. In other words, the argument that it's not subject to the uncanny valley, while at the same time arguing that it IS realistic and that it looks just like her, is contradictory and absurd.
My two cents? Uncanny Valley Ahoy Ahoy, sorry creators of Heavy Rain.

"It's the theory that as you approach photo realism with CGI, the brain is always able to detect the subtle differences [... blah blah something made up about how brains work]"
As you attempt to make something more realistic, you end up tolerating deviations from "normal" less and less. That's basically it. There's no fundamental problem with CGI, just with CGI that isn't good enough.
Moving from the center of the uncanny valley means you're fixing some of those small deviations from the norm, which should make an image more acceptable. Whether that's happening here is your opinion, but whether it's possible isn't really the question.
Anyway, the Uncanny Valley is a hypothesis, not a theory. There's a big difference (mainly the fact that it hasn't really been tested/verified). Everyone seems to have an opinion about it, though, so it's kind of a folk-science thing now. Ah well.
Anyway, Joystiq = accurately describing untested hypothesis.

Sooo... you're saying it's not about nuclear water (which is water with an unusually large amount of deuterium in it) that turns everyone into flaming zombies that it touches? With you being this androgenous chick who needs to come to grips with taking out your husband that came home one night, filthy wet... wtih Hard Rain? And then, after you've killed your husband, the aliens come... Then it turns mostly into a mixture of M. Night Shyamalan's "Signs" and Miyamoto's "Mario Sunshine."

Looks nice, but is this game ever coming out? So far all I see is tech-demo stuff.

Only a handful of reporters have been shown an actual trailer.
These new screenshots are groundbreaking (as far as news goes) as its the first stuff we've actually seen from the game, as opposed from a tech demo.
Um, my guess is that Quantic Dream is getting ready to start showing off the game now. What's the next big gaming event/show? We'll probably see more there.

It's easily one of the best looking games I've ever seen, conosole or pc, but I'd kinda like to know what it's about and what we do in the game. Even a hint would be nice.

No because generally people tend to look their gender.
Breasts have nothing to do with it and I find it odd you would even bring that up.

No because she has a manly face. At least in that particular picture she does...

To be honest she does look like she could go either way. It's tough to capture graphically the subtle features that would normally completely define a person's gender in real life.

having been mistaken for female because of my long hair and been witness to females with short hair mistaken for young men, i have to say that because humans are basically the same, hair styles can be confusing without well developed secondary sexual characteristics.

Yeah, I'm pretty androgynous myself (see: JPAG). So, I think I am a good judge as to whether she is a bit too undefined.
And it's not because of her tits. What a silly comment.

Certainly the best looking real time character model i've seen. But this game is still very enigmatic as a whole
So, Sony's entry in the "Vapor 3" of E3 2006 is certainly looking good. (Vapor 3 being Sony's Heavy Rain, Microsoft's Alan Wake, and Nintendo's Disaster: Day of Crisis)

Fahrenheit was awesome, and all the problems with that game they seem to have removed with this, according to them. Eg: Super Powers.
Still, Fahrenheit WAS amazing and innovative, and as I said this can only be better.

I noticed that most of the publicity surrounding this game seems to focus on the 'virtual actor' aspect.
At this point, I get that it looks cool.
Dilating pupils and rain soaked faces are great.
I'd like some gameplay details.

"It'll play similiar to Farenheit/Indigo Prophecy."
Annoying Quick Time Events (GET READY!!) every two minutes and a plot that starts off pretty well and then becomes laughably stupid the further you go?
Where do I sign up?

It looks pretty, but I'm not really impressed, insomuch as you can tell it's a character model. The skin in particular still has that plastic mannequin look about it.
Artistically, it looks like they're trying to cover the uncanny valley effect by giving it a sort of painterly feel. It kind of reminds me of Norman Rockwell, really. But the backgrounds are so...hard edged and static that they break the illusion.
At any rate, the animation is what will make or break it in the end. It'll mask the flaws to some extent or expose them. I'm personally not really impressed by realistic graphics until they can actually nail a real looking person and movies will obviously do that, first.

I think they're finally hitting the "Final Fantasy Spirits Within" level of detail. It's got the same amount of detail as Final Fantasy, but it's not as smooth yet. It's still a little rough around the edges but I have to say it wouldn't take much to get there. Other than that it's looking really great so far.
I just hope the story isn't as bad as Final Fantasy Spirits Within. It looked great but it was so disappointing.
