Rumor: Next Medal of Honor in Afghanistan, based on 2002 Operation Anaconda
Details about the next Medal of Honor have allegedly been leaked in a recent survey sent out by EA, according to French site JeuxVideo (translation). The document supposedly refers to the game as "Medal of Honor: Operation Anaconda," which is named for the large-scale military initiative undertaken in the Shahi-Kot Valley and Arma Mountains in March 2002 (finally outside of the WWII comfort zone, are we?). Unlike Call of Duty 4, apparently this version of "modern combat" will focus on historical events, including the Battle of Takur Ghar.
The survey suggests players will engage in a variety of scenarios, including front-line and sniper missions, and a "drone attack." Another tidbit claims the game will feature 60 customizable weapons. While still unconfirmed, the entire report is definitely plausible. But would it be enough to make Medal of Honor relevant again? To stay competitive, EA just might have to look to the stars.

I'm interested.
Fenix @ Aug 6th 2008 4:54PM
Mii too! :P
They shouldve had this ready to go THIS year seeing as this Holiday season will be without a Modern Combat type FPS. Missed opportunities I tells ya.
Notice I said FPS so all you Socom heads dont get rattled.
Fox318 @ Aug 6th 2008 4:36PM
Why do they continue Metal of Honor?
Does it really have brand recognition?
Isaac @ Aug 6th 2008 5:28PM
Frontlines... will always have a place in my heat.
Mr.ESC @ Aug 6th 2008 9:22PM
Did you ever played the first MOH games? They were good before COD stole its thunder.
MOH Heroes is pretty good too.
Shaq-Fu @ Aug 6th 2008 9:23PM
I'm not sure, but I know MEDAL of Honor does
/I'm sorry, I'm a nitpicker
//Heroes 2 on the Wii was insanely good
Burritoclock @ Aug 6th 2008 4:46PM
EA, when activision beat you to "Modern Combat", you should have made a "future combat" and beat them, that is how you one up someone instead of following them around like a whipped dog.
EA seems to be in a "two steps forward, one step back" mode, but at least they are seemingly moving in the right direction...
Nick the Hero of Canton @ Aug 6th 2008 5:25PM
EA had Battlefield 2 and 2142 before Call of Duty 4 and Call of Duty 6.
Kanadwen @ Aug 6th 2008 5:33PM
Battlefield 2142...
Mr.ESC @ Aug 6th 2008 9:19PM
Pwn3d.
ZenGaijin @ Aug 6th 2008 4:49PM
So does this mean at any point during the game I can hit a button declare "mission accomplished" and end the game?
choclat @ Aug 6th 2008 7:23PM
Although "Mission Accomplished" is declared the game still continues on for 6 years.
LaughingTarget @ Aug 6th 2008 7:37PM
And the entire world that actually pays attention to things not called propaganda will remind you that when you do hit that button, all it does is send a specific aircraft carrier unit home because that is the only mission that was accomplished.
Turkish Superman @ Aug 6th 2008 4:50PM
OMG not another War on Terrorism game!
The Dom @ Aug 6th 2008 4:50PM
To me, and I'm sure many of my friends here in the south, I would love kicking some taliban butt!
zaglis @ Aug 6th 2008 4:58PM
I enjoyed Airborne a lot, waiting for this one
Fenix @ Aug 6th 2008 5:05PM
I enjoyed the MOH: Airborne demo but just never got around to actually renting or buying. =/
*shruggs
Medal of Honor: Frontlines, on Xbox is what got me into FPS on the real...good times good times.
john @ Aug 6th 2008 4:58PM
Can't wait for the mission where you let Osama Bin Laden get away.
Michael @ Aug 6th 2008 5:00PM
About god damn time.
Took another dev thats consistently made better games ANYWAY to get them to take notice and finally stop making tired old WW2 games?
Go figure.
Theyve been milking this ONE WAR for almost 10 years.
TEN YEARS.
It took EA 10 years to finally realize no one gives a rats ass about WW2?
Wow.
Talk about slow on the fuckin uptake.
Christ .....
Duke @ Aug 6th 2008 5:06PM
"It took EA 10 years to finally realize no one gives a rats ass about WW2?"
Except all those vets. Oh, and the people who died in it. Except for them. Yeah...
Mr Khan @ Aug 6th 2008 5:45PM
To be fair, one war that took 4 to 8 years depending on who you talk to (i say it was a 6-year war. China v Japan 1937 doesn't count), and contained a great many theatres of action
Though, if you took the games for it, the war only occurred in Western Europe from 1944 onward, in some parts of Eastern Europe maybe, and in the Pacific
If you factored in Operation Torch, the invasions of Iraq and Iran, Southeast Asia, China, the full scale of Eastern Europe, Greece, Italy, French Syria, Madagascar, you could have a war to milk forever without telling the same story twice
rta @ Aug 6th 2008 5:08PM
why keep bitching about ww2 games? it's getting so damn old. they made millions on selling them so go cry a river to someone who cares. i for one QUITE enjoy them and will ALWAYS be happy when MORE ww2 games release.
The_Punisher @ Aug 6th 2008 5:24PM
I SECOND.
Michael @ Aug 6th 2008 5:27PM
No ones debating that people will always buy the tired and old same things year after year. You dont have to convince me people like you exist, Im well aware ....
Michael @ Aug 6th 2008 5:08PM
Yes, cause we all know the average MOH player is a WW2 vet, and thats who EA makes these games for right?
Duke @ Aug 6th 2008 5:13PM
You are an angry little man aren't you? Lighten up Francis.
AzaMcWazza @ Aug 6th 2008 5:33PM
You know, I have strong opinions about war but can usually chill enough to enjoy a war game, especially something like CoD that attempted to add some emotional content. But really, why do people think they can make a game about one country illegally invading another country and have us all happy about it?
Piss off.
Michael @ Aug 6th 2008 5:44PM
Iraq does not equal Afganistan.
Its where we should have been looking for Osama but our brain dead president decided to go into Iraq.
J Snaz @ Aug 6th 2008 8:02PM
The U.S illegally invaded Afghanistan?
News to me
Michael @ Aug 6th 2008 5:31PM
Newp, I think its just about damn time EA got off the shit wagon and started oh I dont know. Innovating.
Silly me, but I kind of like it when devs throw us a curve ball, make a sequel but change it up.
Rehashing the same war and battles for almost a decade doesnt rank very high on my innovation list.
But then again, we ARE talking about the house that Madden built, so .......... yeah.
Whos fancis?
Duke @ Aug 6th 2008 5:37PM
Just playing with ya. Lighten up Francis is just what we say, but I don't know where that name came to be used in the term.
J.D @ Aug 6th 2008 6:59PM
I think the more people who know about WWII the better. Makes you feel part of the experience, instead of just reading it from a text book or watching a film.
Neuromancer @ Aug 14th 2008 12:49PM
Lighten up Francis = from Stripes
Maverick Saturn @ Aug 6th 2008 6:01PM
Lol, I can imagine the controversy if it took place the other way round, the Afgans come on a mission to America or Europe :)
Meh, either way, hope it turns out good, will be a tad hard to compete with the juggernaught that is COD4.
nutman @ Aug 6th 2008 7:33PM
What do you mean by "afghans"? Do you mean a fictional enemy afgahnistan army or terrorists like the Taliban?
gee I have no idea why it would be controversial to have a game where you play terrorists attacking western cities.
GUESS THAT PROVES PEOPLE HAVE DOUBLE STANDARDS!111111111111111111111111
Maverick Saturn @ Aug 6th 2008 7:57PM
Who said anything about terrorism? Are you trying to say that I said there should be a game about terrorism? Not everyone in afgahnistan is a terrorist. I said 'mission', that doesn't mean mission to cause terror, I meant mission like the ones the Americans and Europeans are on in these games.
And isn't afgans the term used to depict people from afghanistan? Like Europeans to europe? They've been called that on the news, so I assume it is, unless they are called afghanistanians, which I doubt because I've never heard of that term :S Whats that got to do with fiction or non fiction?
nutman @ Aug 6th 2008 7:30PM
At this point it's basically confirmed. Ive seen at least THREE different 'rumors' about it being in afghanistan since January.
Btw I love that EA is now the company with balls. Army of two had you going to places like Iraq and afghanistan and now MoH will be in Afghanistan. Very cool.
Props to EA.
Mr.ESC @ Aug 6th 2008 9:21PM
Hey what was wrong with Vietnam?
Owwwww.
komrad @ Aug 6th 2008 11:02PM
I hope they include NZSAS & Local Afghan troops in some form for authenticity.
Lavat @ Aug 7th 2008 1:14AM
Lately a few SEALs have been dieing over the past couple years....Not what I call a elite fighting force if their mission goes up shit creek and they start dieing.
Big_House @ Aug 8th 2008 11:13AM
It appears EA and the other gaming companies have exhausted Iraq, Vietnam and most other U.S. conflicts. So, to keep the sales going, it was about time to turn to Afghanistan, since that is becoming front page news again!
-DJ....
Big_House @ Aug 8th 2008 4:17PM
I am curious as to why EA and these other video game makers have to keep taking to gamers to far away and remote places overseas. Why can't we just fight some of crazy's here at home like, Skinheads and militias and gangs? Why can't they create a game where this country is invaded and we have to defend?

Neuromancer @ Aug 14th 2008 12:50PM
We do, it's called Crackdown!
