Spacetime lets half its staff go, Blackstar still needs publisher
Spacetime Studios posted some sad news last week, announcing that it was letting half its staff go. The company has been self-funded while it sought a publishing deal for Blackstar, its sci-fi MMO space/ground action game. The company says it is scaling down from 32 to 16 employees while it tries to get a prototype and a publisher lined up. If you're a studio looking for good talent, Spacetime has urged you to contact them.
The developer has been going through a rough patch since NCSoft decided not to be Blackstar's publisher back in January. For a basic idea of what the gameplay looked like at GDC, check out the video after the break.

I think the fact that this post has been up for an hour and a half and no one commented on it is a sad testament to how little people were affected by this title. It is the epitome of Meh.

I don't think you watched the same video that I did.

Give it single player, then we'll talk.
I don't understand why everyone thinks they can throw out some half-assed (no offense towards the above studio) MMO and expect to rake in big bucks every month. I understand the lure of the idea of a steady paycheck, but an MMO is a very hard venture for a company who can't put forth the proper capital for it.

Agreed.
You can't just make a game and go about asking 'hey, anyone wanna spend tens of thousands of dollars in servers to host my MMO?'. I think you should first make an independent release and make it known enough for someone to want to host it.
