Zero Punctuation takes a katana to Ninja Gaiden 2
17
It's been a while since Zero Punctuation's Yahtzee has loosed his venom on an unsuspecting Xbox 360 game. It's been far too long, really. Thankfully, Yahtzee's latest review is for none other than the Xbox 360's would-be premier action game, Ninja Gaiden 2. Expecting the worst, as we tend to do with ZP reviews, it turns out that he actually likes it ... to a degree, citing strengths (gameplay) and weaknesses (glitches and uneven difficulty). Frankly, we think it's a perfectly rational way to feel about the game (except for his preference of the claws, which pale in comparison to the double katanas). Check out the review after the break.

Yeah, I prefer the double Katanas, scythe and the flail. Totally awesome. The story is hilarious. I mean, this is one of those games where the story is an excuse to put you in a different location to slice more stuff up. How else are you going to be fighting crazy demons that bathe in blood?

Hilarious indeed. The fact that Ryu's dad is named Joe Hyabusa is fantastic.

it's all about the SECOND set of dual swords you get. those are definitely the best and most fun weapon(s) ever.

The last sentence or so is priceless... (and describes most American children under 18.)
Oh, and I plan to use 'KILL THEY ASS' sometime today in passive conversation.

i beat it and bought Devil May Cry 3: SE for 12 bucks. it was certainly a much more enjoyable experience than NG:2.

Oddly enough, that bit about the Thundercats bedsheet is how I've always felt about most of his reviews. Funny how that works out.

I like the Dragon Sword~ Its the most balanced weapon for most situations. NG2 is a fun game, full of in your face action and excitement. Alot more violent and crazy then DMC even~ DMC is more balanced though.

i'll say that NG:2 is crazy as in a crazy amount of projectile dodging. but there's just something much more satisfying switching between weapons on the fly in DMC. (half of the movelist in NG2 you can't even perform due to it's enemy balance).

totally agree, I rarely change my weapon in NG2 and my combos are limited due to enemy balance but it doesn't make the combat any less enjoyable. Its just alot of fun to cut through swathes of ninjas and creatures leaving limbs and blood in your wake.
DMC is more balanced in the sense that combos and weapons and moves have very important uses and combat is also kinetic and fun but not as exciting as NG2 was. The enemies are noticeably weaker and combat isn't as fast. The story in DMC games are alot better tho.

The Eclipse Scythe was by far the most badass weapon in the game. Level 3 scythe made the game way more fun.
Though I just realized how similar the stories were in NG2 and DMC. Beat these demons once, then you have to beat them AGAIN! How novel. I hated that in DMC, NG2 wasn't as bad cause it didn't take forever to get through a level.
