You may not be old enough to remember it, but a decade ago when it was first released, Driver felt like a revelation. A game where cars were used for more than racing each other and roadblasting? Unheard of! But there it was, all new and fresh and full of promise, and you'll get to experience the feeling once again on Aug. 14 when the PlayStation title arrives on PSN.Sadly, you'll also get to experience the "honey why is the controller in the TV?"-level frustration that's been a series hallmark. Here's hoping the game's still good enough to hold up.

Other than that, I remember this as pure fun and awesomeness. Hope it holds up considering GTA and the like.

I remember playing the first Driver and thinking how revolutionary it seemed to be at the time.
What was the mode where you ran from the cops and it timed you? That was one of my favorite little modes.

That, space, and the fact that you can only add increments of 500 points at a time... are the reasons why I don't buy more VC games.

All PS3s are backwards compatible with PS1 games. It is extremely unlikely that any hypothetical downloadable PS2 games will run on a non-PS2-backwards-compatible PS3.
I've still got the first two games somewhere. I have got to find a PS1 to play them.

One of these days I need to buy a PS2.
Sometime in '98 or perhaps early '99, back before I had internet access and was able to keep on top of everything, I had no idea what the hell a Playstation was. Then my best friend/neighbor brought over his system and Driver and introduced me to something strangely compelling.
I never did make it far in Driver and I didn't develop an affinity for many PS1 titles, but it was a step forward for me.

Great pimp-mobile music. Bow-chaka-wow, Bow-chaka-wow, bom-chaka. And so on.
