Let's rave over TAC's Illuminated Drumsticks
There's a part of us that wants to compare The Ant Commandos' Illuminated Drumsticks to one of those ridiculously absurd Wiimote attachments; however, there's something stopping us. It's just ... it's just ... these are drumsticks that glow when you hit them on the drum pad. Come on, that's awesome!
At $20 the price is a bit silly, but then again, so is the whole concept. We're sure that under the right chemical conditioning these things will add a whole new level of glee to drumming. There's a horrible video after the break to see how it works.

It may be a total fucking waste of money but if they mad that support Rock Band 2 for the 360, I'd so buy it in a heartbeat =)
Robert @ Aug 7th 2008 11:08PM
They're just drumsticks right? What kind of support do you need?
Vegnagun bwf @ Aug 7th 2008 11:12PM
Spoons will be supported in Rock Band 2.
Nick the Hero of Canton @ Aug 7th 2008 11:21PM
I didn't notice that it used batteries, I thought it plugged into Wii controls.
Slaziman @ Aug 8th 2008 7:45PM
Plugged into Wii controls? What the fuck????????
ruben magana @ Aug 7th 2008 10:56PM
do want.
kojo87 @ Aug 7th 2008 10:57PM
i fail to see how this is relevant to video games but still friggin sweet. i want to go down State Street hitting stuff with them. i would still be one of the more normal people there.
Lone Starr @ Aug 7th 2008 11:01PM
They sell light-up drumsticks at Disney World and the quality sucks. I imagine these won't last very long either.
Starsmore @ Aug 8th 2008 10:51AM
I have a pair from Disneyland, and that's the first thing I thought of when I saw this article yesterday.
It is pretty cool to play RB with them in the dark, though.
A Gupta @ Aug 7th 2008 11:07PM
that's actually really cool... i think i'm going to buy a pair for my yamaha drum pads... should still work and look snazzy!
A Gupta @ Aug 7th 2008 11:08PM
HOLY CRAP SHIPPING IS $10! WTF
Dr. @ Aug 7th 2008 11:18PM
Don't complain. My cheapest option is $18 shipping.
A Gupta @ Aug 7th 2008 11:30PM
As it turns out, Amazon carries them too, and only $5 til free shipping! yay!
why not the LS2LS7? @ Aug 7th 2008 11:09PM
Didn't I see these in the 80s?
Ad @ Aug 7th 2008 11:18PM
Am I the only one who thought of lightsabers?
Saria the Cat @ Aug 7th 2008 11:27PM
That's what I thought they were until I read the headline. :P
John McPoop (PSN:johnnynumber5) @ Aug 8th 2008 12:05AM
ditto.
I thought of a light saber add on for the Wii to be honest ... For a moment I was actually excited about an extra piece of plastic
Dustin @ Aug 7th 2008 11:18PM
Those are actually pretty tight, I think I'd rather have them always illuminated rather than when hit, that would kind of break my concentration/rocking.
born2expire @ Aug 7th 2008 11:25PM
wow, those are the lamest thing ive ever seen.
doubleyewdee @ Aug 7th 2008 11:45PM
The guy using the sticks seems... kind of terrible at RB. Sorry, guy.
Saria the Cat @ Aug 7th 2008 11:51PM
This is one of those things that proves to be simultaneously gimmicky AND awesome! $20 is a little much but I envy anyone who has these in their possession.
John McPoop (PSN:johnnynumber5) @ Aug 8th 2008 12:04AM
I guess it would be tight if you played in the dark ...

To much payola on silly peripherals ... Not to mention custom guitar skins, custom straps and purchasing extra tracks and before you know it you have spent $700 on extra junk ... crazy ... I went crazy with MGS 4 and bought the special edition, limited game guide & headset so I know about buying extra crap that you don't need ... in the end it is pretty stupid ... must resist MGS 4 watch
I will admit the sticks are pretty bad ass but are more of a novelty
DBuck_Eye @ Aug 8th 2008 12:17AM
The drummers in my school band are all d-bags and thought they would be cool be using drumsticks like these in our concert. While they were hitting them together to the beat during one song the battery covers broke and flew off stage into the audience. It was pretty fun to mock them afterwards.

I see what you did there

Haven't these types of drumsticks been around for a while? This doesn't seem like very relevant news to me unless these are specifically marketed towards Rock Band players (I don't see why they would be since Rock Band drumsticks are the same as normal drumsticks). If I recall, my cousin bought drumsticks that light up just like that in the Rockin' Roller Coaster gift shop at Disney World a couple years back.
BrokenMonkey @ Aug 8th 2008 1:15AM
TAC (The Ant Commandos) makes guitar peripherals for Guitar Hero games on the PS2, so presumably these are made specifically for Rock Band and Guitar Hero: World Tour drums.
GoldenS1104 @ Aug 8th 2008 1:19AM
Ok, that makes sense I guess from a marketing stand point. I wasn't familiar with the company so I wasn't aware of what they did exactly. I probably could have looked it up, but, meh, I'm lazy.
ColossalHat @ Aug 8th 2008 1:22AM
Wow, I've never really thought about how stupid the RB drums sound when you play them, but then again I don't screw with them without the game (and sound) on.
As far as the sticks go, meh, if my original RB sticks break I may get these, but until such a time comes I'll live without 'em.
Bakkster @ Aug 8th 2008 11:02AM
If you break your current sticks, why not buy some actual wooden sticks? If you break wood sticks already, these plastic ones won't stand a chance, they'll just be more expensive to replace.
Matthew @ Aug 8th 2008 8:50AM
Shame on you Joystiq, for no Sheila E reference.
-m.
Nevis @ Aug 8th 2008 5:31PM
This might be fun while you're drunk.
Which means everytime I play RB.
Egon Pax @ Aug 8th 2008 1:04PM
Well most wooden drumsticks (actual popular brand-named) are around $7-8 a pair.
Of course there are the Ahead brand of metallic and plastic sticks that run about $30-35.
If these were high quality (somewhere in between) for $20 I guess that wouldn't be too bad... but no way these lights will last...
And if anyone broke their RB sticks purely by playing on the standard RB set then I'm impressed. There is no way that would happen, you would break the set before the sticks... unless I'm severely underestimating the crappiness of the RB sticks. I haven't used mine yet.
Egon Pax @ Aug 8th 2008 1:24PM
Oh yeah, it'd be cool if they had the option of having the light on the entire time by using a switch or something.
Then again, I need all the money to go towards the premium Ion set....
Joey @ Aug 8th 2008 3:01PM
sorta embarrased to say it ... but do want
