PlayStation Home beta accepting applications
No previous job experience necessary. No references or extracurriculars. Heck, you don't even need a first grade diploma. All you need to do is download the PlayStation Home PS3 theme released today on the PS Store and you'll have applied for access to the expanded Home beta test (a mundane magical world brimming with "stuff" -- just like real life ... only avoidable). Of course, there's one thing you can do to make sure your application rises to the top of the heap: Play. "We will be using a variety of criteria including activity on the PlayStation Network to determine eligibility for the Beta community," Home director Jack Buser explains on PlayStation.Blog.
If you do make the cut, please remember to wear your hard hat. This Home is still very much under construction.

how about someone who is rarely ever on PSN because they are usually on XBL instead? it would be a good way to see if it can pull people away from it :)

To have a successful beta, you need to enroll people that not only will use it and go when they find the first error, they need people that can take a little of their time to report the errors. Looking for people that are heavy PSN users is probably a good way to get that kind of testers.
Many people think that a beta is just to have the product early, no it is not

I wonder if Folding@home activity counts?
kbomb1upc @ Aug 7th 2008 4:59PM
I guess HOME my actually be real... unlike unicorns, aliens and unbiased fanboys...
Lionbacker @ Aug 7th 2008 5:01PM
Unbiased Fanboys? Isn't that an oxymoron?
Microswirl (MKWii:1676- 4270-3674) @ Aug 7th 2008 5:55PM
I want Aliens riding Unicorns in HOME. That's MY bit of input for the developers.

And if you get in you get the entertainment of the people who didn't pitching a nasty fit in the PS forums. It really is amazing how mad people get over it.
Ayrkain @ Aug 7th 2008 5:53PM
Not to mention getting barrages of people asking you to share the download, or attempts to guess your secret question.
Duke @ Aug 7th 2008 6:39PM
Yeah lots of reports of phishing and the like.

Yipeeeee!!!
I can't wait to be accepted!
I have like 40 something units on Folding@Home (the only problem with that is that they probably won't count that as the units go to whoever's name it's under, not necessarily what account, I think, but maybe that's just the computer version).
I signed up on both my accounts. Maybe it's just for how many times you visit the PlayStation Store. Or for how long you play games online. No matter what, I'm pretty sure I'll be in.

Want to come home and see my etchings?
Neebs @ Aug 7th 2008 6:26PM
The theme keeps corrupting on me...but I did download it...twice.
Roto13 @ Aug 7th 2008 6:29PM
I've played like 50 friends matches in Soul Calibur IV and that's about the extent of my PSN experience besides downloading demos. :P But I'm going to apply anyway just because I want to.
Marty @ Aug 7th 2008 6:42PM
I like your hair!

Weird, I thought Europe was on the map
THEN WHY DON'T WE GET A HOME THEME?
j.howlett @ Aug 7th 2008 9:44PM
i'm curious about home so i kind of want in. i have heard negative and positive things, but with both sides i have to conside the source. i think i know what to expect and think it could be a better way to connect with other gamers to add to my friends list.
Arturo @ Aug 8th 2008 12:17AM
b-b-b-b-but i just moved and i have to wait on my dad to set up the basement to play :(, and i bought siren right before i moved too grr
StareClips.com @ Aug 8th 2008 1:22AM
The flaw in the logic is that anyone who spends a lot of time playing games will probably spend a little bit of time hanging around Home, but then will go right back to playing a lot of games.
Someone who isn't spending a whole lot of time playing games probably has plenty of time to just sit around and test out Home.

So basically Sony spies on everything you do, and if you're their model citizen, you get to move into their perfect little community?
evilpizzacandy @ Aug 9th 2008 12:09AM
yeah plus if someone couldn't get on as much..playstation would rather give it to someone who would get as much enjoyment as possible while testing...so how many do you think they'll pick? 80,000 already testing so maybe 20,000 per server,60,000 in all 20,000 from us 20,000 from europe and 20,000 from asia?
oliver lufc @ Aug 24th 2008 2:17PM
it would help there was a home theme to download
