Thai government takes strange cues from Detroit
The murder of a cab driver in Thailand, in which the killer said his inspiration was Grand Theft Auto, was a tragedy. The Thai government's handling of the situation ... well, that's starting to turn into a dark comedy. GamePolitics reports the Thai Ministry of Health has created a list of 10 violent games to avoid. Coincidentally, it's the same outdated list that Detroit prosecutor Kym Worthy created and released last year.
Thankfully the internet isn't that old, otherwise who knows what era the Thai government might have created taken its list of dangerous games from? Find both the Thai government and Detroit lists after the break.

what no mortal kombat and doom?
oh that senator joe lieberman's list
Pika132 @ Aug 7th 2008 9:42PM
This is ridiculous. Killer7 is a modern masterpiece, not to be lumped in the same category as shit like 50 Cent Bulletproof.
bluezy @ Aug 7th 2008 9:54PM
At least they're suggesting avoiding the 300 game.

Deja Vu was a GREAT game on the NES! At first I thought this would be an announcement that it was comming to Wii VC.
Joystiq you make me :'(
Dan Davis @ Aug 7th 2008 10:26PM
I LOVED Deja Vu! For those who do not remember, it was a "choose your own adventure" style of game... not very graphics-intensive, but still quite a blast!
Does anyone else remember the other game released around the same time, that played very similarly?
343 Guilty Fart @ Aug 8th 2008 12:28AM
Shadowgate?
Farseer (GDI) @ Aug 8th 2008 12:44AM
Shadowgate was released before Deja Vu, and The Uninvited was released after it. They all had the same general 1st person adventure gameplay. God I miss games like that sometimes. :)

Seriously, when I saw that box art I was freaking out that this was going to virtual console. Having said that I should say that Shadowgate, Deja Vu, and The Uninvited were seriously great at working the imaginations of the users, allowing for an unprecedented amount of control for the original NES, and it is nice to see that they are remembered.
chrisyz @ Aug 8th 2008 12:29PM
Ah Deja Vu... So much fun.
I still have a game save where I move one space and get shot by that thug with two black eyes thanks "Wham!"ing him a couple of times...
chrisyz @ Aug 8th 2008 12:32PM
Oops, I meant "Socko!"ing him, haha.
Sarge @ Aug 8th 2008 3:47PM
Deja Vu is also great for making custom NES carts, as it's a MMC3 cart with battery backup. I had four copies of the game, managed to mangle one, and successfully converted two others to Earthbound Zero and Radia.
And yeah, I really enjoyed the game. I distinctly remember it and Shadowgate, and I always wanted Uninvited. Maybe I should check eBay...
monkey3 @ Aug 7th 2008 10:15PM
i see some sort of Copyright issue coming from this...
syrik zero @ Aug 7th 2008 10:17PM
Pretty funny
Ghen @ Aug 7th 2008 10:17PM
Funny thing that. Also coincidentally I don't care about either Detroit or Thailand. EEEERIE.
Odog4ever @ Aug 8th 2008 1:42PM
Hey don't lump the entire city of Detroit (my hometown) in with one stupid politician. I'll know to teach my kids right from wrong (for when they play with friends) and use the parental controls on any console that enters my house. And if they ever try to use the "a video game made me do it" defense I will personally tell the judge they are lying.
nsdcx @ Aug 7th 2008 10:55PM
At least Thailand's president isn't in jail as I post this. IMPEACH KWAME!
PS36Wii Fanboy @ Aug 7th 2008 11:48PM
So Gears Of War is ok? Cool!
aerobica @ Aug 8th 2008 12:29AM
I didn't catch on to the reason behind showing "Deja Vu" at first and I thought it was going to be one of the games on the list!
Dan: was the other game "Princess Tomato and the Salad Kingdom"? Probably not, but that game was similar and was/is very awesome!
Dan Davis @ Aug 10th 2008 3:00AM
Naw, I think those guys above got it right... I was totally thinking of Shadowgate!

I live near detroit and never heard about this list...Go figure..::looks at the free press and sees about the prosecution of the mayor:: More positive press HOOOORAY!
LuckyEMS @ Aug 8th 2008 1:51AM
is that 2D GTA1 or GTA in general
Young_Nastyman @ Aug 8th 2008 3:02AM
so they added a - on Killer 7 and Blood Money to Hitman
wow, some changes you got there, you sneaky Thai bastards
NotJeff @ Aug 8th 2008 3:50AM
Was the deja vu picture posted because you can kill cabbies in it?(and because of the fact that the news is de ja vu. It works on TWO levels!)
Man that game was ridiculous and awesome.
But just as in real life, if you kill a cab driver, you immediately go to jail... and lose. This is the same as real life because going to jail is a form of losing in reality.
ScottG13 @ Aug 8th 2008 8:42AM
Lazy like a Thai whore?
Yeah, that was NOT called for.
Gnoll @ Aug 8th 2008 8:47AM
Watch out for Night Trap guys!
Jeremy @ Aug 8th 2008 9:28AM
Were the lists really in the same order? Creepy...
J @ Aug 8th 2008 10:44AM
Maybe there's a list of games that could help Thailand cut down on all of the people going there to have sex with kids.
Will @ Aug 8th 2008 10:46AM
OMG! I had completely forgotten about Deja Vu. I don't know how many times I woke from that stupor. Virtual Console maybe?
colby @ Aug 8th 2008 10:46AM
Echoing the other folks here giving mad props to Déjá Vu. LOVED that game. Truly groundbreaking for the NES. Wasn't there a similar game (based on the same engine) that came out around that time as well? (could'a been a medieval-type game).
Dan Davis @ Aug 10th 2008 3:02AM
Your comment is giving ME deja vu (see above) :)
colby @ Aug 11th 2008 8:25AM
Ha!
Sorry, Dan. Saw the box art and got a little ahead of myself.
