First Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise 'Vision Card' up for download
The festivities on Piñata Island won't get into full swing until Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise hits shelves on September 2, but that's not stopping Rare from handing out an early party favor. As we reported back in May, the game will use the Xbox Live Vision camera to "scan" physical cards – similar to Sony's Eye of Judgment – that unlock items, change the in-game weather, etc. The first of these cards is now up on MundoRare, featuring a curious critter created by VP2 designer Ray Stevenson.
Clicking on the card image above will take you to a full-sized version that can be printed out and tucked safely away until the game streets. The rest of the dev team is also crafting cards that will surely pop up online closer to launch. Speaking of making cards, you'll be able to do the same simply by snapping photos of items and piñatas in your garden via an in-game camera. They can then be emailed to friends, who can print them out and hold them up to their Vision cameras, thus completing the circle of life.

Why did they write "Masturbation ruins your eyesight" up the right side of the card?
j.howlett @ Aug 8th 2008 5:34PM
because it does
BigD145 @ Aug 8th 2008 5:37PM
Staring at a monitor full of porn will do that to you.
RiccochetJ @ Aug 8th 2008 5:50PM
Huh? Where does it say that? I don't see...
Dammit!

Pinata Cards, sign me up! Oh man, this has got to be the greatest moment of my life!
Wait, no, it isn't. Forget I said that.
Robert @ Aug 8th 2008 5:29PM
Man, those things are huge! They need to give away a voucher for free ink cartridges with this game.
Zertoss @ Aug 8th 2008 5:36PM
With the price of ink at over $9000 per gallon, I think I'll just play the game without the cards.
Of course, if I even had a XBL Vision camera, I'd probably try to get it to read the cards off of my PSP first before moving on to less portable screens.
Autopsy15 @ Aug 8th 2008 11:27PM
I suppose you could just photoshop the image to where it just has the barcode on the right. I'm pretty sure that's all the Vision camera reads. Saving you from wasting an assload of ink and having a picture of a fruity looking penguin in your room.
giantenemycrab @ Aug 8th 2008 5:37PM
Joystiq should have added the caption "O RLY" to that picture.
Saria the Cat @ Aug 8th 2008 5:47PM

I honestly don't know why this is funny but i'm really drunk so that might explain it.
Mr.ESC @ Aug 9th 2008 2:10PM
Ya rly.
Saria the Cat @ Aug 8th 2008 5:49PM
Okay, there is something truly awesome about a blue penguin pinata with a monocle and furry mustache.
Saria the Cat @ Aug 8th 2008 5:53PM
HOLY CRAP, I just realized! He's the peanut guy! :O
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ Aug 8th 2008 7:01PM
...i thought he looked more like an owl.
Saria the Cat @ Aug 8th 2008 7:07PM
Yeah, I think had a brain toot and I somehow thought "penguin" instead of "owl" even though I had just replied to the orly post...
John @ Aug 8th 2008 5:57PM
Is it an owl or pidgeon? Whatever it is, I think this is a very neat idea. The camera seems to have gotten ignored, and this is a good way to add it into the game.
I might actually buy a camera with the extra money I saved if this game really does cost $40.
Great job Rare with coming up with a great IP and an interesting new feature.
ice~ @ Aug 8th 2008 6:24PM
the camera is going to mao the game easier than it should be. Im a hardcore piñata gardener and I got everything in the first one and I am so lookin foward to this
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ Aug 8th 2008 7:03PM
im going to have to watch some game videos or something cause i still have absolutely no idea what this game is actually about. i just keep hearing about cannibalistic pinatas or something. *shrugs* or maybe i made that part up.
Snowblind @ Aug 9th 2008 10:27AM
Just to reiterate, you do NOT have to buy cards. You simply print them out and scan them in with the camera. After how easy it was to simply scrible down the symbols and put them into Eye of Judgement, I don't think they were ever going to bother trying to market a trading card game.
It's just an easy way to trade your Pinata's with others :)
Senor Facekick @ Aug 8th 2008 7:12PM
Is it just me, or do most videogames having anything to do with corporeal collectible cards seem to fail miserably? Don't get me wrong, VP2 will be exquisite, just...I won't be going out to the store to buy these things.
Also, that parrot looks like watson
PS36Wii Fanboy @ Aug 8th 2008 7:47PM
So what is it? A parrot, A penguin, or an owl, or it can be some screwed up pinata name that mixes a bunny with a jackhammer.... possible...
Markusdragon @ Aug 8th 2008 8:16PM
They're not making corporeal cards, they're making it so that you can make your own ingame, then print them off on your computer.
Senor Facekick @ Aug 9th 2008 2:24PM
Oh. then, this seems like a pretty cool idea.
PS36Wii Fanboy @ Aug 8th 2008 7:23PM
Could the Penguin be P.B. Winterbottom in disguise? fooling us from ever getting that great arcade game, or will it tie up a fair maiden to railroad tracks while stealing some more of our pie.... I want mai P.B. Winterbottom :(
watkinzez @ Aug 9th 2008 10:31PM
How does one get Ray from Ryan?
