IGN was able to pin down seven new tracks for Guitar Hero World Tour and it's, well ... it's a mixed bag, to put it kindly. Let's take a look:
Airbourne – "Too Much Too young..."
At the Drive-in – "One Armed Scissor"
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – "Weapon of Choice"
Bob Seger – "Hollywood Nights"
Dinosaur Jr. – "Feel the pain"
Silversun Pickups – "Lazy Eye"
Survivor – "Eye of the Tiger"
Anything jump out at you specifically? Yep, Bob Seger. Now, of the Bob Seger songs you could choose from, you could do a lot worse than "Hollywood Nights." But Seger is also responsible for "Old Time Rock 'n' Roll," which is scientifically, quantifiably the second worst song ever recorded (after Phil Collins' version of "Groovy Kind of Love.") Shouldn't that preclude Seger's involvement with anything ever? Or are we being too restrictive?
Because of you I just fantasized about Danny Tanner singing 'night moves'. I'm honestly not sure what to make of it. I also have a very strong desire to see the episode of Full House where they go to disney land. And my throat hurts.
You forgot Trapped Under Ice and BOYB. Anyway, that Bob Seger song is offensively bad. I won't mind playing that song while "You Ought to Know" I'd avoid at all cost.
I wonder if it would be worth it for Guitar Hero or Rock Band to offer a "season pass" for DLC. You could buy a subscription by the year and get all the DLC for that year at a nice discount.
Yeah, srsly... Has anyone else SEEN the video for "Eye of the Tiger"? x_x I have, and it really ruins the kick-ass mood of the song...
As for Bob Seger, he'll always remind me of ALF and of Kid Rock inducting him into the Rock Hall of Fame. Both were laugh-at-that-because-it's-ridiculous time.
Eye of the Tiger is at least cheesy bad. It'd be fun to hear someone sing that drunk at a party. Bob Seger songs, though? Meh. Justin, I think Mike & The Mechanics' "The Living Years" ranks right up there with the two songs you mentioned in this post as being quantifiably the worst songs ever.
Not suprising. This happens. The both secured rights at similar times. Happened with GH3 and Rock Band, as well.
Of course, that never stops blind ignorant fanboys from saying things to the likes of Rock Band 2 stealing Everlong, or Guitar Hero: World Tour stealing Eye of the Tiger.
As much as either band game would love to offer more variety, they are not just going to completely scrap a song that charters and animators have been working on for a few weeks.
Worth pointing out to all the people who are bagging on Seger, he didn't write the original version of Ol Time Rock N Roll and doesn't own the rights to it (though he did re-write some of the verses). It was basically a filler song they licensed to finish the album and no one thought it would live on like it has. From the always trusty Wikipedia:
"And (Seger) said: "Nah. Nobody's gonna like it." I'm not credited on it so I couldn't control the copyright either. Meanwhile it became a Wendy's commercial because I couldn't control it. Oh my God, it was awful![1]"
I'm sorry, but Bob Seger is far > than 100% of the nu metal emo wuss rock that is included on RB and GH. Though I too hate "Old Time R&R" I'd still prefer to play that over the aforementioned p*ssy "rock."
I was excited when they announced that Rock Band instruments will work in World Tour, but every time I hear more songs announced for GH, there seems to be more and more overlap. At this rate, it won't be worth it to get both.
More good news for Wii owners, who got heavily burned by RB1. If you had noted comments by wii owners, many are set on buying GHWT (look at nintendowiifanboy's comments)
I don't think this stuff is planned out enough for that. People wouldn't be able to see the songs ahead of time so if they got a bunch of stuff they didn't like they'd all kick and scream and claim they were just going after songs that are cheap to license since they have people's money in advance.
Not to mention if they missed a week without a release. People would go nuts and demand refunds, etc.
In short, the world is full of way too many douchebags to ruin stuff like that for everyone.
Bob Seger is one of my favorite classic rock artists...but like most of those artists, his best songs are the ones they don't play on the radio (or at least, most radio stations). "Her Strut", for example, would have been an awesome choice for GH or RB. The live version of "Travelin' Man / Beautiful Loser" (same concert as "Turn the Page" is from) is one of my favorite live tracks of all time, although it wouldn't really fit well into one of these games.
It's rather obvious that people will judge a music game entirely on whether or not five or six of the songs will be outside of their musical taste.
Don't like Bob Seger? Don't play the song. Or better yet, if you're at a party when you're playing, pass up the controller that song. It's NOT a gamebreaker. I have songs I hate in both GH and RB, but I don't bitch about it.
If anything, both game makers are attempting to draw even more people into the game by offering an even wider music selection. If you REALLY think that's a bad thing, then you obviously have no depth in music taste. You don't have to like Bob Seger to appreciate that he has in his own way contributed to music. Stop being so shallow people.

you and me both; and i'm generally of the opinion that GH should not be touched post harmonix.

Bob Seger is the Midwest Messiah. True fact.

When Armageddon comes the armies of Bob Seger and Ted Nugent will battle against each other to decide the fate of the midwest.

have you never heard of "so bad it's good?". and by the way Eye of the friken tiger is on the list and you are complaining about bob Seger?

Three out of the seven songs have also been announced for Rock Band 2.
This is more bizarre and incestuous than what was going on at my trailer park last night.

Bob Seger also did Turn the Page, which is a great song and helped write the Eagles "Heartache Tonight". I say he gets a pass.
Also, wtf? Old Time Rock n Roll was on the songs of the century list in 2001 and he's in the rock n roll hall of fame.
Why are you bagging on him?
Balla360 @ Aug 8th 2008 1:00PM
"Old Time Rock and Roll" is a sloppy rock song with crap lyrics. It's no better than the pop trash they play on top 40 radio nowadays.
Seger, however, more than atoned for it with "Turn the Page" and "Night Moves". Both qualify as some of the best rock songs ever written.
Courtney @ Aug 8th 2008 5:58PM

I'd buy GH: Survivor edition. No bullshit.
Will @ Aug 8th 2008 12:41PM
wouldn't it be just that one song?
Kizzle @ Aug 8th 2008 12:54PM
No. Burning Heart (from Rocky IV) and Moment of Truth (from Karate Kid) are both noteworthy as well.
Maybe not "Survivor Edition," but a Survivor DLC pack would be welcome.
Double J @ Aug 8th 2008 2:14PM
The entire Eye Of The Tiger album is greatness and you all know it.
AwesomeTown @ Aug 8th 2008 12:41PM

Ricksta @ Aug 8th 2008 12:41PM
Seems like Seger would fit better in Rock Band based on the classic rock they have. And their are many other songs they could/should have chosen.
GHWT looks like it is trying to appease everyone based on songs like "Beat It" and "Eye of the Tiger"
Who would of thought playing Michael Jackson's version of "Beat It" with fake instruments would sell a video game in 2008?
CyberKnight @ Aug 8th 2008 12:41PM
"Too restrictive?" How about "too snooty in our music tastes?"
I actually think "Old Time Rock 'n' Roll" might be fun to play. In fact, I'd pick that than some of the other crap on the list.
So this is a news article? "Guitar Hero includes a song by a guy I don't like"? Pfft.
giantenemycrab @ Aug 8th 2008 12:43PM
Eye of the Tiger could be cool, but I don't recall that many guitar riffs in that song..
From the looks of it, Rock Band 2 is going to be a much better deal than GHWT.
Kizzle @ Aug 8th 2008 12:49PM
Remember, Eye of the Tiger is already confirmed for Rock Band 2 anyway.
Sucks that they doubled-up, they could have used Burning Heart for GH:WT. Then all the Rocky fans would have to buy both games.
Kizzle @ Aug 8th 2008 12:48PM
Hollywood Nights is awesome. I'm not a GH fan (or a customer, at this point) but that does make me a little envious.
hurmun @ Aug 10th 2008 3:10AM
eye of the tiger? wtf alright enough novelty songs

You FAIL. Old Time Rock 'n' Roll was a great song.
