Tired of waiting for Sony to make their own PSP phone, a hacker created his own functional prototype. By gutting out the UMD drive from the PSP, he made room for a fancy touch screen phone. It's impressive, although some may complain that this is nothing more than a fancy piecemeal job, as there's no real integration between the PSP gaming compartment and the phone itself.

Heh, poor PSP. It's definetely an accomplishment tho.
Anyway, does anyone really want a PSPhone? I know I don't.

I am very much against a PSP phone. Have people learned nothing from all the abuse cellular carriers have inflicted?
I don't want to get stuck paying huge monthly fees for services I should have free access to, or being forced to join one particular carrier when I'd really prefer another, and so on.

I think the whole idea of a PSP phone is just plain absurd. I mean, yes, the psp is a multi platform media player and does fairly good at being one, but adding another feature such as a phone crosses the line IMO.

I guess they already crossed that line with skype (6_6)
A PSPhone is a good idea. Alot of people with the iPhone wanting gaming and now they got it. And Sony, still didn't listen to the PSP community.

a psp phone would be okay, but if they did make one it would most probably be a slide phone, if you want a big screen and good sized buttons. anyway, it's cool someone's done this, but that thing looks f*ck*ng ugly.

I don't see "all in one" uber gadgets getting anywhere fast until someone develops better batteries. Sure, a PSP phone would be cool for people who have a PSP and a cell phone (I don't. I hate cell phones and refuse to get one. I don't need it.), but I'd rather run my batteries down playing games, you know?

That's my problem with the iPhone.
I prefer the separation of an entertainment device with a communication device. It's fine if I can use AIM and other messengers with my Touch, but I REALLY don't need to CALL anyone.

This reminds me a lot of the "cameraphone" that the Flight of the Conchords made... just a cell phone glued to the back of a point and shoot 35mm camera. No offense to the guy who obviously spent a lot of time on this though, it looks like a fairly serious mod.
The PSP is one of three devices I carry all over... but I have a pocket in my bag that fits it perfectly. My iPod touch lives in my bag too and my phone stays in my pocket. It's not that bad carrying them all... you just need a bag. I would never consider a PSPhone... it would be huge!

only 1 person here noticed the one big thing about the article...TrapZero...the psp is already a cell phone which i now use regularily. skype is only $20 canadian unlimited (in canada) and all u need is the skype headset from gamestop or eb games. which they never seem to have, so go to best buy. i cant see any reason at all for this mod here...unless...he put his actual cell in there in which case its still retarded cuz now u cant play games. if i forgot anything let me know so i dont sound like an idiot but im fairly certain i hit the right points.

Apparently you missed a few of the points lol, there's a large difference between a cell phone and a VoIP phone. Skype makes the PSP a VoIP phone, not a cell phone. A cell phone can operate without a wifi access point, as opposed to a VoIP phone which must be near wifi to make a call. So yeah, the psp isnt a cell phone just yet.
On a side note, that mod is quite possibly the ugliest thing ive ever seen and like Pete V said, it's not even technically a mod, its just a cell phone lodged inside a UMD door.
