LittleBigPlanet news and community site launches
26
Another cog has been added to the LittleBigPlanet this week: a website, which should help to get the potentially massive ball of kinetic users rolling after the game's "big bang" this October. For now, "LittleBigPlanet News" predictably functions as a hype machine, luring in audiences with that adorable SackBoy and his widget full of stickers (visitors can actually customize the background of the site with an extremely modest sampling of the game's content). The welcome message reveals that, eventually, the LBP site will "evolve into something much bigger and better to support our community of Players, Creators and Sharers." And who might those important sounding folk be? Why, you of course! Remember: The fate of this little, er, big? planet is in your hands. (Cue ominous music.)

Then you probably never will.
Not being an ass, I'm just saying...it seems that MM have put all the LBP cards on the table already and what it LOOKS like so far, is exactly what it's going to be.
If that makes any kind of sense.

The appeal of this game is:
Imagine if you could take Super Mario Bros, make it multi-player where you could invite friends who could drop-in/out with ease, add in an insanely powerful level editor that's relatively easy to use, this level editor can also be used during an in-game play session, ala Halo's Forge. Now combine all that, give it adorable looking and fully customizable characters and top it off with absolutely amazing graphics. Oh, and throw in Stephen Fry as the narrator.
THAT'S the appeal of LBP.

I agree 100%
I just simply don't understand what's so special about this game. Granted the graphics look extremely nice but besides that I fail to see what makes this game remotely interesting.

The appeal is messing about with your friends making stuff or messing about with your friends playing stuff other people have made.
If you only like to play games that are go from A to B, along the way do x, game completed then this probably wont appeal to you.
If you like messing about having fun but not necessarily having a specific purpose then its worth checking it out.

@ 343
I'm just gonna address the level editor part of your post since that's the only part I think is valid.
However lets just think about this logically. It's like sony fanboys with UT3. All this bragging about mods and the such...well how many mods are actually GOOD?
Not that many as has been proven time and time again. In the overall scheme of things there will be very FEW levels created in LBP that are truly epic or even worthy of being "traded" or w/e the creators think you'll be doing with it.
Stephen Fry? REALLY? Lol that's hilarious.
Adorable and cute can be found in wide variety of places.
In regards to Forge the same thing applies. I'm not that impressed with the wide variety of maps created in Forge. Sure the concept is cool or what not. But the end result is not at all worthy of the hype and praise that was pumped behind it.
The fundamental difference though between the 2 is that Forge isn't the be all end all for Halo 3. Halo 3 would be awesome even without Forge. It's just a nice lil extra therefore it doesn't really bother me if I encounter very few Forge created levels that I like.
Again I honestly don't think this game is significant in any sort of way.

I want to play it... because I love me some 2D platformers. (Mario Galaxy is the ONLY 3D one I have liked...)
Oh and that Kratos LBP character looked amazing... and I'm not even a GOW fan...
Oh and my Watchmen graphic novel will be at my house on Monday. I've never read it and when I was watching the movie trailer I confirmed stupidest comic characters next to aquaman... but I just had to know why it was "the most celebrated graphic novel of all time" especially since I've never heard of it.
So I hit up good ol Wikipedia... and then I bought it off Amazon the same day. So kids... don't judge a book by it's cover... or movie trailer.
I hope it's good... It seems like the EVA of Comics/GNs
/off topic
\waits for EVA haters LOL

@Watchmen-
In regards to the level editor, you can point to UT3 and say "well how many mods are good", but you're judging the game before it even comes out. Sure, there'll probably be lots of levels that suck, but then there'll be levels that are great. If you've read anything about LBP they've incorporated a tagging system which will allow you to track the best maps that people are downloading. That should make it easier to sift through the junk.
To say that "adorable and cute can be found in a wide variety of places" is a bit naive, just because it can be found in a wide variety of places doesn't make it any less cute. There's a lot of military-themed shooters, it doesn't make them any less military-themed.
And why is the level editor the only part you find valid? There's a whole game in the box full of levels, with a complete story! Sure, this game probably won't be the second coming of the messiah, but it looks like it'll probably be damn good platformer with great graphics and a great level editor. If that doesn't satisfy you go play something different.

Yo Turkish Superman, I'm kind of curious...does this game have a level editor?

I'm not Turkish Superman but i can say to you that it definitely does have a level editor. In fact that's one of the main parts of LittleBigPlanet.
Here read this, it should explain it more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LittleBigPlanet
