Screamwriter: Warren Ellis contributed to Dead Space
Turns out Warren Ellis – comic writer, blogger, and president of the Southend-on-Sea bearded writer's association – laid some of the groundwork for EA's upcoming Dead Space. The writer, newly freed from an NDA, shared the info with subscribers to his newletter, writing, "I can finally say that I wrote a bunch of the groundwork, backstory and structure on the forthcoming EA videogame Dead Space, which recently got a comic prequel from the hands of Antony Johnston and Ben Templesmith" (which you can watch here: one, two, three, four).
Ellis estimated that, although he submitted his contribution as far back as two years ago and that "there was at least one other writer on the project," he's "sure there's some of [him] in there somewhere." Let's hope so!

It'll be hilarious when out of nowhere a sexually perverted mutant makes his entrance.

So it'll basically be Transmetro 2, then?

I had no interest in this game up until I heard about this.
Between Transmetropolitan, Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E., Thunderbolts, Crooked Little Vein...Ellis is easily one of the best people in the comic book industry.

Great writer. He definitely up there with the greats like Neil Gaiman and Alan Moore. I discovered him back in 1994 when he wrote a few comics of Thor. Never have I ever seen a super hero comic written like that before. Even though he is not the lead writer on Dead Space now I know the story will be good. The webisodes are also good.

Umm... who?
Of course, if he is fully and positively confirmed to be bearded then I have the highest hopes for the game's quality.

Do I chastise you for not knowing Ellis, or do I compliment you on having a Rowsdower avatar?!
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Aug 9th 2008 7:08AM
Chastise his ass. How do you not know who Warren Ellis is?

Dude, Warren Ellis is probably THE BEST current writer in comics these days. I like a lot of Moore's older stuff(Watchman, as do we all...), but he's gotten sort of...eh, curmudgeony as of late.
Ellis, on the other hand, proves that there is no genre he can't write. Sci-Fi, comedy, pulp, whatevs. Ellis slays it all.
