Street Fighter II HD beta gets bandaged
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix's recently extended "open beta" got a technical hadouken this morning, addressing a number of the issues faced by the redrawn brawler, from connection lapses to frozen consoles. Other changes include Ken's newly-nerfed dragon punch, while Capcom says that the overall online experience has seen around a 50% improvement.
Notes a post on the company's blog, "While we can't do anything about high ping times, we've optimized the gameplay experience so that it's less noticeable and smoother," some of which can be seen in video form here. Still, those pining for more characters to pummel will be left wanting. According to Capcom, adding additional fighters was "technically not possible for the patch." We'll just have to wait until we get our thumbs on the full game to get our Cammy on.

I think SFIV will come out before this will.

Aren't you witty.

I'm not trying to be sarcastic, but i thought that as well. Everything that I've seen with SF4 seems pretty close to being done, considering it is already playable in Japan in the arcades. Are they just waiting so everyone will be surprised at the new art, or are they really not that close to being done yet? When they announced this, i assumed it would be out by now.

The units out in arcades in Japan are all beta units. Also, I realize it's kinda crazy in this day and age... but the Arcade version of SFIV is being developed first; console ports will follow AFTER SFIV is out the door. So while there's a decent chance we will see SFIV released before SFIIHD is... it'll be the arcade machine only, not a home console release of any sort.

Poor genre...its so sad.

The fighting game genre? Granted it's not where it was at in the mid 90's in terms of popularity; but it's actually been very lively the past couple of years.

You can't really judge an entire genre based on this game made by some small developer that really just ports games!

great game and all that, but...............:
WHY THE MASSIVE BORDERS AT THE SIDES?
Just makes it look amateurish, why no full screen?

You can view the battles in 16:9, if you select it in the options. It views the action optimally, a slight stretch and zoom to ensure everything is clear. For the purists, you can view it in 4:3 as it was.
Original, or cropped to fit widescreen displays.

i seriously dont see what is so great about this game that it has to have umteen re-releases and iterations. i mean i played MK and Street Fighter as well as every other fighting game back in the early 90's (i even had Shaq-Fu!) and i guess i just dont see the draw of that one title anymore.

There has only been five versions of Street Fighter 2, Super Turbo being the last. This is basically just ST with high resolution sprites and backgrounds, and some rebalanced mode Sirlin thought was necessary. ST is still played to this day, and has a decently large competitive following; this is the first version of Super Turbo to be able to be played online in the US (if you don't count HSF2), and I think that's pretty exciting. Games like these aren't really made to draw in the public, but rather cater to a smaller niche.

Also the game was re-iterated several times to fix the balance issues in the game. Most players will notice that Super Turbo is by far the most balanced game of the original five versions. Back in the old days we couldn't easily patch games, so if you wanted to fix balance issues in a competitive game, then you had to re-release it.

Hearing, "Tiger Tiger Tiger" From O.Sagat isn't exactly balanced.

I like SF2, but an HD Third Strike would shit all over this game.
