New Wolfenstein game will not feature Hitler
When we think back on our proudest achievements throughout our video gaming careers, a few notable moments come to mind -- for instance, the first time we caught 'em all. Or when we topped our friends' high scores on Pac-Man Championship Edition. The first time we beat the wretched wind tunnel level in Battletoads. Oh, and how could we forget -- that time we shuffled robo-Hitler off this mortal coil in Wolfenstein 3D. That guy was a jerk.
Unfortunately, the satisfaction one feels after putting the kibosh on a genocidist won't be present in Id Software and Raven's next installment in their Nazi-stomping franchise, Wolfenstein. In an interview with Eurogamer, Id lead artist Kevin Cloud confirmed that the Fuhrer will not be present in the upcoming title, claiming that the developer needs to "save something for future Wolfensteins." Who could possibly replace him as the game's nefarious evil boss, though? Eva Braun? Bowser, perhaps?

Whats the point of having a wolfenstein without hitler?
Thats like making a Metal Gear game without the Metal gear.. oh wait
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Aug 9th 2008 9:08PM
The Shagopod wasn't a Metal Gear? Certainly had the same theme going.
Night Elve @ Aug 9th 2008 9:57PM
As Sheppy said certainy the Shagohod was the precursor of what the Metal Gear Rex could be.
jcd @ Aug 9th 2008 10:27PM
Well, return to castle Wolfenstein didn't have Hitler and it was great!
Well...
I liked it.

Mr.ESC @ Aug 9th 2008 10:11PM
Yeah he votes democratic.
Bowser is a very misunderstood turtle or whatever. He just wants freedom for he and his country, in fact he had assemble a large group of protestants against the unfair rules of mushroom kingdom and had done many pacifist protest with goombas marching from one side to the other.
Sadly all his efforts were in vain since the King used money from the treasury to buy the Media to portray Bowser as a blood thirsty monster and portray his group and cause no better than a group of insurgents that wanted to bring destruction to mushroom kingdom. The king would also kill anyone who opposed him by beheading them and but their heads in boxes with “?” signs, is safe to say Mushroom kingdom king was batsh*t crazy.
Bowser was put in a point where he had to kidnap the mushroom kingdom princess in order to stop the execution of his fellow comrades that were captured during a protest and also negotiate the terms of a new reform that would take the power of the king to execute prisoners and give more power to the parliament and the people. In the meanwhile the king hired an Italian mercenary to end Bowser’s life, he was disguised as a plumber and he manage to get with Bowser but he didn’t kill him right away, he captured him then tortured him and finally the mercenary threw him in a pool of lava.
After the event the King threw a large party and even gave money to a group of developers so they could do a videogame depicting the event (In the point of view of the King). There was no funeral for Bowser since no one dare to do one and there was no corpse to be buried.
Bowser died leaving his Son Bowser Jr alone since Bowser Jr. Mother died from a disease that was never treated since Mushroom Kingdom Health care plans didn’t cover or wanted to cover Reptiles of Goombas. In Bowsers reform there was a point in which each citizen had a right to receive healthcare and it was one of the mayor points probably due the death of his wife and maybe that’s what inspired him to become a revolutionary.
Bowser death was a victory for the Mushroom Kingdom royalty but a Defeat to Democracy and Freedom.

That should be the plot for the next Mario RPG. Also Bowser should become an androgynous teen.
colin @ Aug 10th 2008 1:31AM
since your post is laden with political allegory, let me just say this.
free healthcare = rapid decline of the healthcare industry = bad healthcare.
i don't know how it is in the mushroom kingdom, but the healthcare industry in america today is grossly misunderstood. if bowser's wife lived in America today, she would without a doubt get the care she needed to save her life, regardless of her insurance status or ability to pay. Sure she might owe $20,000 for surgery and a 6 day hospital stay, but everyone has to understand that she will walk out of the hospital alive. (unlikely she would even get an appointment in time with socialized medicine). If she is uninsured, she will get a 50% discount (10,000) and will be allowed to make monthly payments as low as $10 for as long as it takes (or forever) with no interest accruing.
with socialized medicine, she would wait months to get a referral to the general surgeon she needed. If the surgeon was able to see her before she died, he would probably not do his best or take pride in his work because he is apathetic about his profession and would only do the bare minimum required for him to keep his job which now has less incentive and prestige. He's a government worker now.
Has anything the US government involved itself in turned out well? Social Security? The USPS? Welfare? They are all models of inefficiency.
Which leads me to my ultimate point ... we need smaller government, not bigger. We need a government to keep us pointed in the right direction, we don't need a government to dictate and jeopardize our freedoms. Unfortunately, the problem with US government is the antiquated 2 party system. I have liberal ideals, but my only choice is to vote conservative, to preserve freedom. I hope the majority of you will join me.

ESC = win. As always.
Colin's analogy for the healthcare system? = Epic fail.
Take it elsewhere. Clear chip on your shoulder = not listening to reason, so I won't bother. Thanks!
KeenCommander @ Aug 10th 2008 3:23AM
ESC = win, and Colin = win. Or in the second case basically, common sense = win.
colin @ Aug 10th 2008 5:19AM
unfortunately, keen commander, some people don't see it that way.
btw, i wasn't trying to make an analogy. socialized healthcare (or the gradual implementation of it) is an issue for this presidential election. Like communism, it is a good idea on paper, but nobody has ever made it work. i wouldn't say i have a chip on my shoulder, but i do have vested interest. i work in healthcare and i fear for the future of something that i love and believe in.
So Solid Truth @ Aug 10th 2008 7:27AM
Colin must be the biggest spacker on this site.
As a resident of the UK I've had fucking brilliant free health care. After having a benign lump removed within a week I pondered how much it would have cost me to pay if I was in the US.
The system works here. if you can afford so you can go private which from personal experience isn't what its worth.

sirpilf @ Aug 10th 2008 12:08PM
colin, vote conservative and preserve freedom in one sentence is an oxymoron. our country voted for bush, and all he did was take away our freedom. a vote for mccain is a vote for bush's third term. a vote for obama is a vote for bush's first term, saw that in a political cartoon i thought it was funny and yet so true sadly. ron paul got jibbed.
anyways, they are probably taking out hitler because bush will take his place.
Mr Khan @ Aug 10th 2008 1:34PM
The fact that our healthcare system does produce great results (albeit at sometimes crippling costs) is proof that socialized medicine could work
All you have to do is make it free
It certainly couldn't be done overnight without having to radically raise taxes, or go deeper into debt with China, but a concerted effort to restructure our budget could provide that sort of funding
John McPoop (PSN:johnnynumber5) @ Aug 10th 2008 2:04PM
@Colin
There is no reason that citizens can't have to access to affordable healthcare or in some cases free healthcare. My fiance and I are Independent contractors so even though we work under a massive corporate umbrella we are still not eligible for health or dental benefits. We would love to have access to more affordable healthcare for our family. I do believe that it is every citizens birthright to have access to the same healthcare benefits that are only reserved to the very affluent in our country.
Private Insurance is the biggest farce and rip off in the world. Insurance companies are not profitable by paying out claims. Therein lies the crux of the matter. You have a company who's sole purpose is to make as much profit as possible and the way to do this is to deny it's very customers access to the benefits promised. I am talking about having a necessary surgery and then having the insurance company deny the claim after the fact and claiming that the surgery was cometic.
The healthcare, insurance & pharmaceutical companies practices affect every citizen of this country in a negative way. There is no way for an individual citizen to get affordable healthcare for it's family. The only people that can afford healthcare in this country are the people with enough money that it is irrelevant anyway.
WRE @ Aug 10th 2008 3:05PM
mcpoop,
I am far from wealthy, but I have medical, dental, vision, life, a 401k and donate 10% of my gross annual earnings to my church. Healthcare is NOT ridiculously expensive, it's just a matter of prioritizing. And I'm sorry, but I absolutely refuse to pay so that people who take the motorized cart at Walmart - not because they have to, just because they'd rather not walk - can get a free liposuction. Get a job that offers benefits or cut back on your "fun" money.
Viridium @ Aug 10th 2008 4:15PM
LOL, colin, you're a tool. My free Canadian healthcare kicks your stupid system's ass. There's a reason that when I leave the country for the US, I ensure that I am covered under a CANADIAN plan in the event I'm injured in the US - your system sucks.
John McPoop (PSN:johnnynumber5) @ Aug 10th 2008 5:49PM
@WRE
Don't act as if you know the details of my fiscal and lifestyle situation. Maybe in your situation you are able to do the things you say. However, everyone has a unique situation and it is not as simple as prioritizing. I don't know if you have children, elderly relatives and other necessary expenses that I have. Don't be such a condescending prick.
WRE @ Aug 10th 2008 6:29PM
mcpoop,
I'm not trying to be a condescending prick and I'm not pretending to know all the details of your life. Sure, everyone's circumstances are different, but almost everyone can improve their situation by showing a little self-discipline and living within their means. I wasn't attacking you directly, and I'm truly sorry if it came out that way, I was just talking about the population in general (I thought the Walmart example explained that). I just don't believe in a free healthcare system as nothing is without its price.
gb @ Aug 11th 2008 11:18AM
@wre: health insurance in this country is a joke. the mere fact that you can afford insurance means that no one in your family is even remotely unhealthy. As soon as little problems start popping up, they will jack your rate up. good luck.
colin @ Aug 11th 2008 10:24PM
I have my opinion. You have yours. American healthcare is the best in the world and that is a fact. Not an opinion. American medicine drives medical technology and drug innovation. I could rattle off facts about the UK system and the Canadian system, but you wouldn't pay any attention. You'd just call me a tool or a spacker. Either way, just google socialized healthcare and read a bit about it. Sure, it may be good enough for you ... but it is better here, and we don't want anything to happen to it. I understand the other side of the argument, I just don't agree with it. I don't believe in a right to free healthcare, after all nothing is free (I'm looking at you British/Canadian taxes).

Well, it could be Heinrich Himmler, leader of the SS (Gestapo).
But I guess when the cutscene for him introduces and you're about to fight him, there has to be a 5 min lesson about Hitler's Rise to power and what the Gestapo is.
From what I've heard of MGS4 though, people love videos though. And it's educational!
