And the purpose of loading a disc on hard drive is??? Filling my hard drive up for a 10 second faster load time. No thanks.

it'll keep your disc quieter and is less work for your system as well. you don't have to do it. but if you have the room, and want a smoother game session, why not?

Im really liking how the white in the background brightens as you navigate through the menus. Doesn't it look more blue now then gray? or is it just me?

Actually, this could work out REALLY awesome!

My friend gets "Disk Read Error" in COD4 all the time, kicks him to the dashboard and when he loads up again it's fine for awhile.

Now hopefully that should never happen! He can use my disk to install and his to play (just in case there IS something weird on his)

Same thing for Gears of War, which he can't play at all. It won't read the disk. Install; play. (though not worth it now haha)

Agreed - I've never actually finished gears after I scratched my disc half way through a cut scene - you never know I might get away with it if I install the game.

If I wanted to install my games I would play on the PS3 or the PC. Otherwise, I'm stoked for the update.

NICE WAY FOR MICROSOFT TO SCREW THE CONSUMER!!!!!!! I work in electronics retail and Microsoft is still sending out 20GB Pro bundles until the official launch of the 60GB. Now their turning around and forcing that consumer to spend upwards of another $200 for a larger HDD because their puny 20GB won't be up for the task of this new update. While I agree that the new update looks really cool and appears to perform very well, FORCING people to install the entire game is completely unfair. YOU SHOULD HAVE A CHOICE!! Microsoft's obviously thinking about their year-end bonuses as opposed to their customers the way they say they do!

dude, calm down. you aren't FORCED to install like many PS3 games. it's entirely optional.

This is one time that I'm REALLY glad I'm wrong. Thanks for the reply. I've been watching videos reading reports on it though, and I've never seen anything about "optional". Are you sure? Anyway, thanks again for the heads-up and especailly for the polite reply...you could have responded much differently.

Don't worry tiger.. it's all optional. The cool thing about this though, is that it's not just a small portion of the game that's installed onto the HDD like the manditory PS3 installs. With this one, you have to option to install the entire game onto the HDD. Then, all you do is pop in the disc, let it spin once, and it never spins again. This reduces load times, framerate problems, and pop in texture problems.

Yea im really not liking this new dashboard, I think that the blades look a lot better, but thats just me. I kinda hope that you would be able to keep the blades but also get the new stuff that comes with the new dash, but i doubt that would happen. I am also curious how themes would look on this new dash.

haha, i knew you sounded a bit drunk! lol

anyway, ya, no prob. i think you can still play from the disc if you own a 20, 40 or 60gb hardrive. they won't screw owners of the Arcade 360 editions by requiring a mandatory install for instance (no hard drive to store the game on), so i think it's optional.

i can't find any hard proof, but rest assured that all clues point to an optional install.

Remember - if you can't see it in Internet Explorer - Try Firefox, sometimes that'll show it when IE won't.

I welcome the install-to-hdd feature. It'll bring a benefit to any game that uses streaming (most sandbox games) and that alone is worth it in my book.

Ah, installing to hard drive - takes me back to the PS2 days!! ;o) ;o)

I feel the reason you would load the game to your hard drive and still need the cd is not only just for the security reason but as well for the fact that it would cut loading times ( Not that there is much loading time at all in the first place ) in half, only reason I mention this is cause think about how the 360 is now... you have a game in there you press the eject button and what does it do. It throws you back out to the dashboard it does not leave you in the game. However that would be cool to save the game to your HD and just run the start up then pop it out and put it on another xbox and use just 1 cd for 2 players to play. But I hardly doubt that they will make it to were you can just save game to hard drive -> start it up -> take it out and it still runs, though I may be wrong but you have to keep in mind this is Microsoft we are talking about here and I love the new dashboard the looks are amazing, I heard rumor that their is going to be a new feature offering up to a 8 person private chat??? Who knows!! :) *** One more thing about the saving game to HD think if you could save to HD start game up and then just take it out a lot of game companies would lose half of their expected sales off games only because then a LAN center could go and buy 1 copy of Halo 3 and have 16 Xbox 360`s set up and be able to start them all up on just that one copy? I highly doubt that is going to be why you save the game to your HD but thats just my opinon
