Modder brings touchscreen support to PSP
23
DS owners are a handsy bunch. Rarely do fans of Nintendo's handheld jump onto the PSP wagon, as they know they'll miss the thrill they receive after wiping their meaty paws all over the screen of their portable gaming device. However, modder jube808 is working to bridge the gap between handhelds -- in addition to adding a sturdier control pad and increasing the battery life of the PSP, he also recently integrated a touchscreen into the system. So far, he's created a brief tech demo, seen above, and a rudimentary keyboard (posted after the break), but he hopes that the technology can be utilized by interested homebreweries.
His next project? Integrating a Cuisinart panini press into his Xbox 360. Let us know how that one works out for you, Jube.

What really is the use of this mod? I mean, if you want the touchscreen for homebrew you could easily make an app for the DS and it would require much less time. Though, playing patapon and tapping to the beat would be cool, but that's impossible..isn't it?

Once again, with alot of PSP mods, it falls into the realm of "because it was there" Though, playing patapon and tapping to the beat would be cool, but that's impossible..isn't it?

Try saying this:
"Fuck you Joystiq, I know a way to end this mess!
/wrist"

The home of the mod is http://pspzproject.dcemu.co.uk/ but this could persuade Sony that the PSP deserves a high quality touchscreen in a new revision of the hardware ?

Unlike DS, PSP is more of a modern all-around gadget that can do all sort of stuff and looks really cool but underdelivers when it comes to it's primary purpose.
And the point I'm coming to is that it's nowhere near as durable as DS and the screen would simply become unusable after a couple of weeks of extensive use.It would also really kill the battery.
Imo, PSP is fine as it is and there's no need to copy the DS.Sony just needs to use their fucking heads, start caring about their handheld and last, but not least - Get more good or at least original(Pixeljunk,Patapon) games.

As someone who bought a PSP day 1, and owns a total of 5 now (don't ask) PSP over delivered on it's primary purpose. In the short time it's been out, I own almost as many games for it as the 8 year old PS2.

That seems to be Sony's strategy in general.

I'm afraid to touch my PSP screen, it's so big and clean, it's intimidating.

I can only imagine the frown on his fathers face as he tried to explain to his pep pep, what he had invented... and why know one understands him.

Is this fake or real...I mean in order to enable touchscreen on PSP the whole hardware has to be re engineered.
