If you've watched the latest trailer for Codemasters' Rise of the Argonauts and have been wondering about the music you've since been humming along to in the shower, you can thank film and television muse, Tyler Bates.
Bates, whose credits include the testosterone-fueled 300 and the upcoming movie adaptation of The Watchmen, will provide accompaniment for Jason as he flexes his mythical muscles against both gods and monsters this fall when Rise of the Argonauts ships for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. The Liquid Entertainment-developed title represents Bates' first stab at scoring a video game, and while we're not prepared to award him the Golden Fleece just yet, we certainly approve of what we've heard so far.

By "The Watchmen" do you mean "Watchmen" or some other movie with a very similar name?

Yes, poor me. Now excuse me while I go play The Halo and The Bioshock and The Super Mario Galaxy and The Braid and The Sonic and The SimCity and The Spore...

If Azam Ali's doing the vocals (as she did for 300), I'm sold.

I still have Braid's song stuck in my head....but yeah, if this is from the guy who did "300" then the scoring should be great--but I don't base my purchases on musical scores unless it's RockBand or GuitarHero...

Here's the problem.....he didn't really write a score for 300. Almost all of 300's musical score is completely, utterly and literally ripped off from other movies. Some of the most notably musical cues were lifted directly (with almost 0 interpretation) from the Julie Taymour/Anthony Hopkins "Titus" score by Elliot Goldenthall. Additional music was taken from other films that I'm not as familiar with but found out about when I started researching the topic. Supposedly the only actually true original music is the edgier rock-style moments of which there are only really a few. This guy is a complete and total hack and shouldn't be allowed to compose for anything until he develops original scores.

Another reason to get this game. It looks great and I'm surprised it hasn't turned more heads. This game comes across as a spiritual successor to KOTOR.
