60GB Xbox 360 in UK for £199, August 15
The 60GB Xbox 360 will be available in the UK beginning August 15 for £199 ($380), with the new console replacing the discontinued 20GB at the same price. The sans hard drive Arcade currently retails for £159 and the 120GB Elite goes for £259.
The 60GB model went on sale in North America a couple weeks ago for $349 after it was originally announced the console wouldn't arrive until early August. The 20GB model also received a price drop to $299 in the region. Although we don't know about Europe, if you're looking to finally get an Xbox 360 this year, it might be worth waiting to see how those September price cut rumors play out.

Wow, this actually makes the UK's 60GB model cheaper than the US equivalent!
Remembering that UK/European prices include VAT (Sales Tax) and US prices exclude it, the comparable price for the UK unit is £170 (exc VAT) which equates to approximately $340.
emagius @ Aug 11th 2008 11:16AM
Of course, the average sales tax in the US substantially lower than 10%. ;)

Japanese price is even less than that, that's without taking anything away (though I don't know about tax there). They're clearly quite confident in America.

Well if you head over to Play.com you can pick up the 60GB Version for £179.99.
You can also get it with either CoD4: GOTY or Lego: Indy for £209.99

Oh and if anyone didn't know some places you can pick the Elite up for £239.99 and the Arcade for £149.99.

Damn it...I can't bitch about European prices any more. Keep it up M-saved me-$!

A) The PS3 needs a cheaper price NOW.
B) So does the PSP. But there are more reasons for this that I don't care to go into. a £159 HD console or a £130 PSP without a memory card umm....
3) wow thats cheap. GG Microsoft!
4) in the time it took to read from A-3 Sony didn't drop the PS3 price and I'm betting they still won't after they read this.

If the PS3 needs a price drop, how about Nintendo??? Isn't the Wii £179 in the UK?
Ben @ Aug 11th 2008 4:50PM
Why would Nintendo drop the price when everyone's happy to continue spunking money on their system?
Not only do punters gleefully hand over £179 for a Wii, but they'll buy Wii Fit for £69 and Carnival Games for £35.

I'm this close to getting an XBOX 360.
the only things holding me are.
1- Price
2- I don't have and HDTV and I'm not planning on getting one.
3- Don't have Internet.
4-I'm Scared of the RROD.
Tiptup300 @ Aug 11th 2008 12:55PM
I was lucky when i bought my 360, nobody carded me for an hdtv or internet. I'm just lucky like that!
ChooChooCharlie @ Aug 11th 2008 1:24PM
1 - Look at it as an investment.
2 - You don't need an HDTV. I didn't have one until only recently, and it didn't matter one bit. Look out for games with small text such Dead Rising or even the cell phone screen on GTA4, but, other than that, a beautiful game will still look great on an SDTV.
3 - If you don't have internet, how do you post here?
4 - Newer models of the 360 have a much smaller chance of RRoD. And even if you are one of the unfortunate ones, MS covers RRoD for 3 years after the purchase date. You may have to wait a few days due to shipping, but they will replace it.
Wiinterfang @ Aug 11th 2008 1:29PM
I see, price is not a problem anymore as they are now barely more than a wii, I'm not from america, do microsoft still accept my xbox if it gets the RROD?
ChooChooCharlie @ Aug 11th 2008 4:31PM
hmmm ... now that's something I'm not sure about. I'd imagine so, though. It's company policy for now - I don't believe different regions are treated differently.

In a way, this sucks. It's like a big Ef-You! to mid-[console]life buyers.
Soon it won't make sense to buy a console until the end of it's life cycle.
At least the Wii got it right:
1 SKU
0 price changes
End of story.

Oh why aren't there any German console manufacturers?

Incredible price. Bear in mind that a standard McDonald's meal in the UK is like £6ish, so if you don't convert but take the pound to dollar, you're essentially paying $199 if you lived and earned in pounds. That's incredible.
grex9101 @ Aug 11th 2008 2:09PM
Bullshit, a Large Quarter pounder/Big Mac/McChicken sandwich meal is £3.89. Where the hell did you get £6 from?!?!
Richard @ Aug 11th 2008 2:32PM
Whoops, might've been guilty of converting back myself. Bear in mind I spent 4 months there and ate at McDonald's twice.
emirabal @ Aug 11th 2008 3:45PM
As long as they get it, isnt australia still waiting for rock band or something, i dont understand these things.
grex9101 @ Aug 11th 2008 4:13PM
it's easy to understand - big games companies don't give a fuck about "lesser" territories - always has been this way, always will be.
